I am WAY too lazy to tell you who got what…just names some pkmn and we’ll see if they got anything new. Also the move tutors added in do mix up the metagame a bit.
It’s official: The Latias test has begun! Latios has to wait until next month to be tested, though. ;(
And I’m off to a good start on the Suspect Ladder. #1! :wgrin: Though it’s a new ladder, so it’s not like it’s hard to gain ranks at this point. Most of the good players haven’t even fought yet.
So far, Latias seems very…OU. Just my first impression.

Man, I can’t get into Platinum as much as D/P.
Can anyone tell me what isn’t/is viable from D/P in Platinum?
I’ve been using the most OU of OU teams ever on Shoddy as of lately.
you’re over thinking this… it hasnt changed that much, really… 2 months after platinum came out i used the same team i last used in D/P, and achieved top rankings
scizor has bullet punch, rotom has good defenses, and salamence has outrage, and psychics/ghosts are likely to have trick… beyond that, it feels like the same game (because it pretty much is)
So, I just have to remember that some things get new moves, and trick is a bigger bitch.
But is there anything that isn’t really useful on team anymore? Because wouldn’t priority moves totally own my Baton Pass Team and Trick Room Team?
yes, most effected by scizor are frail sweepers especially those weak to bullet punch like Weavile, but to be honest the popularity of Swords Dance Lucario and Mamoswine/Weavile were already making priority moves a very real thing in D/P.
thats why i love empoleon for a speed boost recipitent… he dual resists ice shard and bullet punch, resists extreme speed, fake out, shadow sneak, sucker punch, quick attack, aqua jet… only leaving mach punch and vacuum wave to fear.
I’d say that the most game changing thing right now is Trick. Rotom is almost guaranteed to have it, and things like Jirachi, Metagross, Gengar, and Azelf use it a lot too because they benefit from Choice Scarf heavily which happens to hamper many of their counters.
Speaking of Rotom, he’s kind of like a faster, stronger, spiritomb, with the downside being that he has weaknesses, but thats made up for by having very useful resistances and immunities. his typing is really good
Omaster has been an awesome and unexpected heatran counter for me…Earth power provides a fast way to take it out while sponging it hits in either SS or rain. of course in rain you’re better off using STAB surf but then again the Sp Def boost from SS helps sponge both STAB Overheats and HP ice far better. either weather has it merits. i’m still testing some different spreads and movesets to see what utilizes the pkmn best against specific foe.
resists explosion, too. cool.
The Heatran I’ve been running is this, I got this off of Smogon, and I think it’s pretty fun to use, since I get it in on Gengar, and it will always survive a Shadow Ball and Focus Blast. Then it can substitute up on other Heatran switch ins.

I think I’m going to make a new team with Empoleon as my main sweeper by passing it stuff, because Mag made the idea sound cool. Also, Empoleon is my favorite Pokemon, along with Porygon-Z. =)
Heh, I like Empoleon too. other steels share many of his resistances to priority attacks, but other cool things to note about empoleon baton passing:
My favorite Empoleon receiver i’ve ever used is Nasty plot + agility passed to substitute/surf/ice beam/grass knot with life orb or petaya berry. see if this doesnt destroy EVERYTHING except dedicated special walls. can even deal with most of those if you use sub to get a petaya boost.
I’ve also used swords dance or belly drum passes which is kinda cool cause of aqua jet, but then youre kinda better off with stuff like Lucario with bullet punch AND extreme speed
Another cool thing to note with baton pass empoleon: Gliscor compatability. Gliscor is already a top notch passer just because of Taunt. If you can manage to pass a nasty plot to him, he can get the speed in, and pass to empoleon pretty easily. check this out:
Gliscor weaknesses - ice and water. Empoleon resists them both so passing to him is seamless.
Empoleon’s weaknesses: Fighting, ground, and electric. Gliscor is immune to two of those and resists the other, so theyre unlikely to come his way when you pass to Empoleon
