The new generation offers new moves to many different types of pokemon (well it’s not so new being a remake, but you get the idea)
This allows chamander to exploit the steel weakness Brock’s gym has, while in R/B the moveset had no types of advantages meaning harder preparation.

so it’s to let players who are unfamiliar with RS to learn about the moves… ok that makes sense
i do like that the new movesets actually make certain pokemon battles HARD… like agatha now stands a chance against psychics with shadow ball and making bite a dark move makes FR/LG less of a mewtwo owning up the entire game fest (not counting battles, just the 1P game by itself)
i just remember the days that alakazam, mewtwo, snorlax seadra, hypno, and dragonite was some really ridiculously hard team to beat.
Anyone want to cheer me on as I attempt to in a Porygon and SR for a bold on in FR?

Yep those days are long gone sadly, the game has certainly changed from then. Adding new movesets to a poke expands their potential, thus makes the poke appeal to something different as each generation passes by. The case is that there were major flaws to movesets in R/B to begin with: Bruno’s Machamp had absolutely no way of hitting a ghost pokemon (which at the time was just ghastly), Lance’s Dragonite was laughable with slam and barrier, etc.
Wait a second, I’m not getting 9999 coins, I’ll just get a Dratini and make an Outrager.
I will play anyone who will breed me a Bold Porygon.

Uh-oh, it’s finally happening…
There’s serious discussion on Smogon of moving Garchomp to ubers! Interesting arguments on both ends.
don’t forget that he had like all of them abusing Hyper Beam and it was pretty sad in terms of movesets…compared to now

I’m going over now, I wanna read these “arguments” I’m sure they are good!

some power up thing and some thing that was really good against electric… most of my friends never got passed my hypno because mewtwo was so damaging… but that was a LONG ass time ago. i forget what seadra had on my yellow.
I’ve been saying Poison needs to be super effective against Water to balance them out for at least half a decade now.
Pinion: I already announced it in the previous page. Maybe if you spent some time actually battling me instead of reading Smogon…:arazz:
I know…I purposely stole that from ya… :wgrin: just to get you going…

I dunno if being SE vs. water is the way to go, I think the real problem is grass is nowhere near common enough for it to be useful (also the large number of poison/grass)
also lulz at the topic getting closed
i said specsmence is small potatoes not because i can easily counter it, but because it never made me feel as stifled as garchomp. like i HAD to counter it and build my team around it and im NOT always prepared. back when the game was newer and specsmence was a lot more popular, i didnt even have a special wall, but was always able to deal. i dont think its raelly comparable to garchomp as far as over-centralization goes is what im saying.
i dont think you need to make a “guesstimated switch” necessarily. a well built team has its own agenda ready to set up. the move that makes specsmence special is draco meteor. a draco meteor is an invitation for you to come in and set up your own agenda, after your current pokemon dies. so youre not really forced to counter him in the same way.
im not complaining about garchomp tho, or any other pokemon thats currently OU. i dont think h e should be banned. i just dont think specsmence really has as big of an impact on the game as garchomp, blissey, or gyarados, who force you take a lot more considerations in your team building and cant just be coped with by taking an eye for an eye.

Bulky gyarados can suck a dick.:arazz:
Like I reiterated earlier it isn’t about if the pokemon is able to be defeated, it’s more about if these pokemon(plural) centralize the metagame. I’ve defeated Specsmence easily before and I’ve so far have had an easier time with Garchomp. But personal experience is faulty on the broad scale. The truth of the matter is that the reason why current have this ridiculous “borderline” tier is simply because these 3 giants 2HKO or OHKO almost everything below that baseline. I think that’s stupid and over-centralizing. This isn’t to say borderline isn’t competitively inviable in OU or that Arcanine lovers still won’t use their guy in a OU team, just WHY BOTHER?
So yes everyone has their own agenda, but the prime agenda is always to kill the most effient way possible while living, the big 3 do that very very well.
As for Gyarados and Blissey it’s completely different scenario.
Blissey’s purpose is defensive moreso than offensive. It protects a team from a wide variety of Special Threats, esp. with the advent of Choice Specs and Nasty Plot, her use is a given. You can only really blame Gamefreak for not trying to make better walls or more diverse walls that aren’t Rock/Steel or some frail typing and thing nothing will EQ/FP it to hell.
Gyarados has pure 100% bona fide counters that stretch from OU to BL to UU. To use him correctly requires a bit of strategy, risk and skill (added with Stealth Rock but Specsmence has less worries since it’s hit-and-runner, a crippler). He’s definately a threat, and I know the pain of being Gyara-swept but that usually because I left a hole.
With the big 3 the main hole is NOT having those pokemon in the first place.
I just started Chaining, and I haven’t made it past a chain of 20 yet, out of like 5.

question about levelling up with ev points
if i go to a pokecenter or the pokemon dies for example… do i keep the ev points i get for that level?
