@Sarangha
I apologize for the brevity of my initial reply - I was out at lunch, at the time.
Your response merits better, so here goes:
I absolutely agree, monetarily speaking - it is without argument.
But I’d lose exactly as much, ethically.
This I disagree with, utterly and totally.
LOTS of services go the free route, and are quite profitable.
Not the least of which is Sony themselves.
The hack wasn’t due to their having a shoddy network.
It was due to shoddy baseline design of their security.
Digital is not there yet, I agree.
Steam and its ilk make it worth it, with their price structure, and, y’know, free P2P service.
I am “out of this”, really.
If I want to play games online, I’ll simply use my PS3, 3DS, or PC.
Or Wii U, when Nintendo finally gets enough games out for it, to merit my purchasing it.
I’ll reiterate - EVERY other gaming service out there, be it Steam, Battle.NET, etc., et al, barring Live, is free.
AAA title are bloat shite, and the industry as a whole would be infinitely better off without them.
This isn’t a matter of affordability.
My laptop alone ran me $2500 - much less all of my other tech goodies.
Much less my games - of which I have purchase over 60 disc based ones on PS3 alone, let alone the 50 “PSN Only” ones that I have.
Much less all of my other software.
This is a matter of principle.
It is a matter of taking a stand against ever increasing, continued abuse of the consumer, by corporate greed.
Day One DLC, First Buyer, Always On… these tactics of this generation of gaming were already destroying the fun of a hobby that I have enjoyed for the majority of my life.
And now Sony wants their consumers to PAY THEM, to use the internet that their consumers already pay their IPs to provide?
What nonsense.
What nonsensical, ego maniacal tosh.
At BEST it is nonsensical ego maniacal tosh.
In a more direct tone, it is a derisive sneer, and a colossal “Fuck you. Bend over and like it, you goddamn brain-dead junkie.”
I do not know WHO the Sony believes they are actually able to speak to in that manner, and still keep their business… but it sure as fuck is not me.
