That loss to the Timberwolves was waiting for a while. They should have won the first meeting but have a weird mental block on how to close out games. Thankfully Capella is on schedule on his recovery and should be back after the all star break is what I’ve read, now on Gordon I’m not so sure they have said day to day so they might be saving him for the big games coming on this month.

new york suffers from dysfunction, and they keep roping themselves into circuses. carmelo went there for non-basketball reasons, and for a very very long time, the knicks have been a non-basketball team. they still make a shit load of money from fans that take in a poor product (not judging… long time warriors fan), still sell out from other events, still allow james dolan to drive everything he touches into the dirt.
not very often do people succeed in environment they aren’t set up to succeed in, and i think its super true for nba players. look back through the knicks and try to find a successful winning move since 2000 outside of carmelo, chandler, JR which was destined to blow up eventually. i don’t think any one player deserves the blame for the knicks state. warriors were in the same boat, made a meaningful change at the top, and are now an elite team because they stopped being an organization that loved making bad decisions. difference is, knicks just can’t remove dolan because he makes so much money from msg that you can’t just buy him out. and undo’ing the damage from the isiah years and the larry brown gamble isn’t exactly an easy job.
but carmelo being the worst? when carmelo is done in NY, he won’t leave a gaping hole that lasts for years to repair. he also took the team to a second seed in 2013 playoffs and won 2 series that year, with 3 straight playoff appearances after his trade to the team. at the end of the day, carmelo at least gave the knicks something. there’s plenty of players from the isiah era that did nothing but damage that team for years…

The Knicks haven’t won a championship since my dad was a teenager, and he’s close to 60. You can’t blame any player for decades of poor team management and construction.
Melo is who he’s always been, a scorer. They don’t know how to build around him, which goes back to my previous point on poor team management. JR and Shump just won a championship. Knicks won 54 games just a few years ago with these guys, and Knicks gave them away like it was nothing.
i painfully watched how a Patrick Ewingless (wrist injury) beat my Pacers only to get smoked by the Spurs back in 98/99. Spreewell/Houston combo was fun to watch
