Who said this and where? Because I remember the agreement stating that the name and colors were Seattle’s to claim, and the history would be shared by both them and the Thunder.
If they can’t get the history back, or its shared, than it’s a waste of time. It needs to be like what went down between Pelicans/Hornets. OKC’s history essentially should begin in 2008 and everything before that should belong to Seattle.
I’m not holding my breathe for anything happening anytime soon, cause I don’t think the league is in a rush to have to reorder divisions again. They should’ve had expansion teams in Vegas, Tampa and a couple other places by now too.
Technically, Bennett owns the rights to the Sonic name and history but doesn’t plan on using them and has said once Seattle gets a new team they can have the Sonics name. The Thunder and the new Sonics will then have the rights to share old Sonics history. But it depends on a couple of things if Seattle gets an expansion team they have the rights that was previously stated, if they get a team like the Clippers to move to Seattle, the Clippers have their own history so the team is entitled to those division banners and selfies that the Clippers worked so hard for.
The other thing is trusting Clay Bennett again. But here’s the settlement agreement and this question is paragraph six:

Though I do see a couple of provisions mentioning a “renovated Key Arena”, which gives me pause to think that Bennett might try to screw out a new Seattle team of all this if it’s a brand new arena instead.
But it’s not happening anyway so I’m not worrying about it. Silver has flip-flopped on this a few times. I’m not holding my breath.
Also, that Clippers example only works if there’s no similar agreement to leave that shit in LA. And quite frankly, leave that shit in LA.
