No surprise there. Only big names they were interested in were Jimmy Butler and possibly Kawhi Leonard. Once the Bulls rolled out the max, Butler cancelled meetings with all teams and no way were the Spurs even going to give Leonard the chance to talk to anyone else.

All other players on the market are “win now” guys who would only hurt our cap flexibility for next season. This is the last of the 3 years ownership gave Hinkie to gather assets, he’ll have to make a move during the year and next offseason.

I’ve said from the beginning of last season, I think his move is to go hard after Durant and another big name next summer. The cap will go through the roof and no one will have as much money as the Sixers to spend. With Okafor, Noel, possibly (very likely actually) as many as 4 1st-rounders, Embiid to dangle around, a ton of cash and the opportunity to play in a weak conference, we can be huge players next summer.

It just isn’t smart to compromise that flexibility for anyone else available outside of Butler and Kawhi.
