The Official NBA 2014-2015 Thread: Simp City

That’s not actually true Geo, you misunderstood it if the Heat are using the MLE and BAE you have no cap space. Winderman was talking about being at luxury tax which the Heat don’t want to pay.

You can either have cap space or exceptions not both the only exceptions you keep with cap space that can be used on Free agents is the room exception (2.7M).

“If a team is below the cap, then its Disabled Player, Bi-Annual, Mid-Level (either the Taxpayer or Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level, whichever applies to the team) and/or trade exceptions are added to their team salary, and the league treats the team as though they are over the cap. This is to prevent a loophole, in a manner similar to free agent amounts (see question number 39). A team can’t act like it’s under the cap and sign free agents using cap room, and then use their Disabled Player, Bi-Annual, Mid-Level and/or trade exceptions. Consequently, the exceptions are added to their team salary (putting the team over the cap) if the team is under the cap and adding the exceptions puts them over the cap. If a team is already over the cap, then the exceptions are not added to their team salary. There would be no point in doing so, since there is no cap room for signing free agents”.

Technically, the Heat have no cap space right now because the space is tied up in Lebron,Wade and Bosh’s cap holds. They would have to be renounced to have actual cap space.

Heat are about to sign Garrett Temple. We had him for Summer League couple years back and they liked what he brought to the table. He showed flashes in Washington.

6’6" combo guard that can really pass and defend, so he’d calm all the people that wanted Shaun Livingston.

Melo is not going to mesh with the whole “attitude” the Bulls have. Or play second banana to Rose.

I still never thought the nigga was coming so it won’t matter. But if he did come he would be the number one option on offense, long before Rose had even his first knee injury the Bulls were trying to get someone else (Luol Deng) to be the primary scorer so Rose could play like a more athletic Chris Paul but no one stepped up.

Rose had to score so much because them other dudes on the team would literally stand around and wait for Rose to do something on offense. Shit was jokes.

This whole Derrick Rose is so ball dominant/ ball hog shit is media Espn garbage. Part of the reason his knees got hurt was because he HAD to carry the team on offense with Deng’s bitch ass getting payed 20 mill to stand and watch.

Fuck Deng, I hope the heat pass on his overrated ass.

Only thing its missing is

Gilbert Arenas + “Crab Dribble”

and Paul Pierce next year.

And coach Moochie Norris. And Eddie Jones, the first Heat #6.

Eddie Jones 3 “fan rating” on basketball reference, above Michael Redd. The Heat wanted to get him a few years ago.

Shit, that made me remember, Corey Maggette would retire if he couldn’t make the Spurs roster. Spurs win championship, that’s ok. Apparently his own personal nickname is (Bad Porn) lol -http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/maggeco01.html

Ok, so Harden does stupid shit in the last mins of 4th quarter (20 sec iso play hoping to flop his way to FT OR stepback 3 pt) but the nigga has been the only decent “PG” lately. Have you seen him alley ooping Dwight’s ass? That’s right, they play good pick and rolls from time to time. Check his stats and you’ll see a solid number of APG.

I disagree bro, Rockets need desperately a true PG. Lin is shit, Brooks and Beverley are co-owners of a hospital suite by now being injured at least half a season. It’s no secret Harden can’t play D but he has been taken care of handling the ball lots of games with Lin sometimes playing like SG instead. I want a true PG that would enable Harden to play more freely and to involve other teammates as well like Jones or Parsons (fuck Howard, I can post better than him and I’m only 6’0).

exactly. not like mcbob had a great relationship with LBJ either.

What’s his decision?

Kings hire Tyrone Corbin LMFAO

Are we still doing fun league?

lol thats what bleacher report said with some sources lol.

Can’t trust anyone right now

Josh McRoberts will sign with the Heat for a 4 year $23mil contract. The Heat haven’t forgotten this have they?

Folks act like one or two incidents said on or off the court mean a damn when it comes to people changing teams. It’s basketball. It’s business. You ride for the team you’re on, and when you switch so do your loyalties. The Bulls had as heated a rivalry with the Pistons as anyone and they signed Dennis Rodman, John Salley, and James Edwards. Karl Malone retired a Laker. This was back before the players were as chummy as they are now.

It was just a joke…
but moving on, McRoberts is okay player but I think 4 years and 23 mil is a bit much for a player like him

We don’t even call anyone “Ring chasing bums” like everyone did to Shaq anymore. Will Ray Allen be the last? KG will probably still be mad about it in his HOF speech.

But like Iverson’s one with Aaron McKie, number retirement, not HOF yet. Tom Gugliotta is getting that shoutout.

Delonte West is on the Clippers Summer League Roster.

It’s Chess, not checkers. Yes Phil can only do so much, but he’s already started making effective moves and there is word on the street that he’s about to jettison another of the albatross contracts - most likely waiting on Melo. It IS a good situation, shit Phil has more rings in CHICAGO than anyone else in the organization has period, let alone rings in general. Despite being a first time GM, this isn’t his first rodeo, and he’ll adapt super quick. It’s not so much about installing the triangle, it’s about getting quality in there.

As for chicago, I’ve gone over it several times in the last thread. Chicago is NOT stacked with talent. They are fiercely driven by a coach who pulls the most energy he can out of his players, this burns them out and runs them into the ground. Everyone in the NBA can do ‘offense’, but they consume so much energy on the defensive end that offense is a second thought, it’s almost an Anti-D’Antoni. Now what do you think is going to happen to the defensive system they have when they plug in Anthony, a semi-capable defender who consumes his energy on offense, and a PG who WAS super athletic, but we have no clue what he is now, and no matter what, can’t be expected to have the lateral movement necessary for great defense. That great defense is going to have at least TWO gaping holes. It own’t be great anymore. Then on offense, we circle right back to Rose & Melo. Melo can fill it up and I don’t question Rose as a PG, but let’s be honest - while he’s not a ball stopper like Melo, he’s ball dominant. So they will at BEST develop an offense similar to OKC - my turn/your turn - not necessarily with Rose taking the shot, but in general, I wouldn’t expect a great offense just because Melo is there. As well, it would now give defenses someone to key in on, and since Melo is a ball-stopper, it won’t open up options for say Taj on backdoors and other ‘pick up point’ type plays. Then there is the front office elephants…we don’t even know how much longer Thibs will be coaching in Chicago since management doesn’t seem to gel with him, AND Chicao is notoriously cheap, THEY broke up the Bulls. So you’ll have two max players with Melo & Rose, then a near max with Noah, with what money will they be able to keep the roster together?

You can’t blindly look at the popular stats. No Harden doesn’t have terrible assist numbers, but look at his overall usage rate (12th in the league) and compare it to his assist ratio where he falls in line at #90. The bottom line is he gets those assist numbers by sheer volume of touching the ball, not from actually being associated with passing. Then for shits and giggles add in him being number 2 in the L for attempted Free Throws and it’s apparent that he’s throwing himself into the lane to draw contact and push the offense via his own means, instead of crash the lane and kick out. It’s great that he gets some oops with Dwight, but when you are on a team with real offensive weapons, and you’re one of the best slashers in the L, you need to have better assist numbers. The only pass category he cracks the top 50 in is for hockey assist., most likely from broken down plays.

The Knicks are NOT a good situation, don’t kid yourself. Phil still has a ton of shitty contracts to get off the books which will take time and will clog up the roster for years to come, this isn’t a problem that’s gonna disappear. Also Phil Jackson has more rings than everyone besides Bill Russell so that point is completely stupid. The Bulls management has proven to make solid decisions over the years as we’ve consistently been a top tier playoff teams which is more than anyone can say about the Knicks.

Chicago is stacked with talent and has been for years but just has been missing a superstar until Rose showed up. The only thing stopping the Bulls from being super successful was running into the big three of HOFers in Boston, then another big 3 in Miami. Other than that Chicago has been far more relevant in the East than the Knicks have for the past Decade which have become a joke in the league with inflated contracts for injured/overrated/average players. Meanwhile Taj and Noah are both GREAT at put back dunks and pick and rolls which would greatly benefit Melo’s style of play because they get hustle rebounds which would allow him to shoot without fear of always losing possession of the ball. The bulls drafted a young guy who can score and is likely the best pure shooter in the draft, Rose can score 20 a game while Noah averages a double double and Taj is usually good for 10-15 points on top of an already more talented bench of other players. Rose isn’t nearly as hobbled as people in this thread thinks, the dudes been resting the right way mind you for 2 years now. Everyone in basketball can use an eye test to see the bulls team gels better than NY from jump street.

Also this idea that Chicago is cheap is also garbage because Chicago had no issue paying Rose a max deal when he proved to be a superstar EVEN AFTER he had already gotten hurt once. The Bulls also payed a TON of money to get Ben fucking Wallace in Chicago, about 50 million dollar the Bulls payed him. The Bulls also payed Boozer almost 75 million to get post scoring when they missed on Bosh. The Bulls underpayed Jordan for most of his career but they made an effort to make it up to by paying him 20 million in each of his last two years when he was CLEARLY pass his prime and they weren’t contenders anymore. They didn’t have to give Jordan shit at that point but did. Bulls has a record history of firing shit players to pay better players which the Knicks have JUST started to do like 5 days ago after hiring Phil.

Like I said from DAY 1 before Melo’s not coming to Chicago but if he wants to win a championship Chicago is clearly the better option. He’s going to stay in New York, but it won’t be for basketball reasons. NY still has a long, long road to go from being a real contender and it’s much easier to fix Chicago’s problems than it is to fix New York’s.
