The Official NBA 2013-2014 Thread: Spurs win Championship:Heat cooled off

i was hoping Anthony Davis would get more minutes

He’s not giving any fuel for LeBron. He knows how it works now and what he needs to do to win. Seems like he’s a guy who wants to win it before he starts talking (unlike his rival).

I don’t know about The Servant for his nickname though. Slim Reaper’s the best one yet. This dude’s focus is laser sharp, he doesn’t give a fuck about the media, he wants to win.

Nothing beats Durantula.

If the ASG looks like that again next year I wont even watch. Fuck the “wait 'till the 4th quarter” bullshit. Those first 3 quarters, and even most of the 4th was a waste of my time. Guys playing with no passion and just going through the motions. For a contrast look at the 1990 ASG. This is what a game should look like. Professionals playing like they give a damn. You can put on a show without being lazy.

Tell me you wouldn’t rather see a game like that than what was on Sunday.

Drake’s Review on the ASG

Of3 notice, almost everyone there had one a chip oir was obviously going to be in the finals at some point. Can you really say that today? If the AST for the East was built like that all star team you would of had MIA/IND.

Also, lets keep it 100…who was anchoring the defense? REAL CENTERS. LBJ can only ‘guard the 5’ because the new 5 is the old 3 and 4. LBJ wasn’t guarding Alonzo or Ewing or Dikembe or The Dream.

Also of note…at least in the first quarter - Zeke didn’t pass to Jordan a single time that I saw. It was like Zeke/Bird/Ewing & Jordan/Barkley/Ewing. Rivalaries meant something then…woooo boy.

Yeah, this year’s all-star game lacked some fire.

I know they usually clown around the first 3 quarters, but dudes were playing like zombies during certain stretches.

I think they need to make the game have more meaning somehow. Give the side that wins home court advantage in the finals, maybe have that conference take a little extended break for playoffs (start a few days after the other side), give them more money for playing that week, I don’t know. Something.

I think asw has been a joke for the past 5-6 years. Dunk contest is dried out, 3p shootout is a yawn fest, and the as game itself is snack break tier for the first 3 quarters.

I actually like the new dunk contest format though.

[

I think you already get that bonus or did they stop that too

only thing I’ve asked if PLS don’t don’t this like it’s 94 again(thunder):

i like the idea of head to head for dunk contest, i just don’t like the team format and the amount of dunks that you actually got to see. its almost like “if he had one more dunk…”

instead you got blue balls dunk contest with like maybe 15 dunks between 6 people. wack.

asg was pretty ho-hum, and it was really only lebron, kyrie, and blake putting on a show. durant put up numbers is a very blah, unentertaining sort of way.

definitely weak. players just need to realize that all star game isn’t about numbers, its about putting on a show. its not like people want to see it matter, they want to see the type of shit you don’t see in games. go head to head with someone, get out on the break and get ridiculous. throw up oops and shoot half courters and have your center take point against the other teams guard. if you’re just playing lazy pickup, then it will reflect out there on the court.

Best way to get players to play is to give each member of the winning team a decent sum of money for their respective charities let’s say 10-20K. When they just play ho hum and start going through the motions let them get killed on ESPN, sports radio, and in social media for not giving a damn. Next year players will start play because they’ll do so for the sake of their “brand”.

I actually conceptually like the new format, it just needs tweaks.

Keep the First Round as is - the Freestyle round. This should be judged with players given a weighted score to rank them 1-8.

Then it needs to be a small tournament… 1v8 2v7 3v6 4v5.

To keep it from getting long winded, to cut out misses, and to up the adrenaline - it should be literally head to head, they get fullcourt (two rims, dunking back to back), but dunk like the freestyle round.

So you get best verse the best, you get a good number of dunks, there becomes a limit to misses…its not perfect, but I think it would work better than the current format and fix some of the old format.

As for spurning on competition, money won’t do it, the league would have to throw too much money at the players for it to be worth it. Homecourt isn’t fair to the rest of the season and belittles the whole point of getting the best record. Maybe it can be linked to drafting somehow, increased ping pong balls or something. Only other thing I can think of is “selection of locale for the ASG the year after next”. And, bring back the center spot. I wasn’t too hung up on it at first, but I can’t help but feel that Blake Griffin wouldn’t of had 18 dunks if there were more than Roy Hibbert there to protect the rim.

1 final thing that might improve the competition, coaches choice. They pick players who were snubbed or who they feel deserve a nod, I’d actually focus a bit more on hunger. If Lance Stevenson was there, I can’t help but feel there would have been a bit more energy there. The vid Hotobu linked had friggin Dennis Rodman in it. Rodman hitting a three pointer was equivalent to someone tea-bagging you after they’ve shot you. Was there a Dennis Rodman out there this year?

  • :bluu:

So speaking of wanting more centers and centers playing the pg and rivals not getting along and a calling for a Dennis Rodman, I knew there’s a reason Boogie shoulda been a star

Grantland article w/ Boogie was up awhile back ago.

Hope he’ll still do a podcast.

I wanna quote the shots fired, but stupid mobile won’t let me.

Also glad Rondo kinda killed the King’s trade offer. As much as I respect the guy, wouldn’t give up IT, McLemore AND picks for a guy comijg off acl injury only to pull a Dwight and bolt. Also chemistry concerns… I’d like him around for McLemore’s development, doubt he’d help Thornton find his game.

HAHAHAHA …
So…what team should sign Melo?

  • :bluu:

Is there enough LOL’s for that?

The lakers/mavs are trying to trade for Kevin Love

I read about that we just don’t have the assets neither does Dallas.

We can’t trade our pick until draft night and as bad as the season is going were going to be gifted Wiggins are Embiid.
