The Official Japan Thread 2.0 "Nani?"

question:
do arcade goers in japan know about SRK?
do they ever lurk the SRK boards just out of curiousity?
if they do, what do they think of our boards? including the info subforums.

i know that SRK has a big following in China and India, but i was just curious about Japan.

Yeah, well I use to drove from saitama to shinagawa every FRB last year. So now you guys get to feel the love!!! LOL! Anyway, of course it’s on a Saturday and if everything works out I’ll be sending 2 people to FRXV. And just for you Hafiz there is a 24 hour net cafe 3 mins down the street from the new venue.

I think Bull and Genjuro can answer this question the best. Unless WM is summoned. But I think they know but it’s not really that much of a major concern because it isn’t in Japanese.

lovely. oh how can i live without 24 hour net cafe
the distance doesnt bother me that much than the cost lol train rides can be pretty expensive lol
im thinkin of gettin a car though, nothin fancy and definitely used.

its really hard to give a blanket answer to such question since “arcade goers” covers lotsa different kind of people and from my experience i have to say the majority probably doesnt know much(if at all) about srk, and even if they know, mostly just by name as a fightin game website. of course players like tokido etc definitely know about srk.

plus they have their own forums/bulletin board system in japanese, so i doubt they care much to lurk srk. what about you? do you know about their forums? do you lurk the place even if you dont know much the language? even if you do lurk out of curiousity, does what you think represents how everyone else thinks too?

brunt advice request

I’m getting to this thread a little late, but I’ve got a job offer in Japan and I’m curious for brunt advice. Is the moral of the story:
If you’re heading to Japan and you have a criminal record, then just don’t mention the offense on any paperwork?

The simple answer is yes. Unless your employer makes you get a background check (It’s getting fairly common for Korean ESL schools to make you pay for your own Federal Background check) nobody will likely ever know about your record.

I can’t guarantee that, of course. But as you read, being honest was not the proper answer.

Hey

So since flights are so cheap right now i’m heading to japan for a month in august!! So any tips on what i should do? where i should go? Any festivals or anything interesting during that period? I kinda want to go see some Sumo!

Also…i don’t have unlimited money so any tips on how to get around and eat for fairly cheap would be helpful.

august is filled with festivals etc, usually its one of the best time/most popular time to come to japan

but…

iirc this summer, Japan’s “expected” to have blackouts due to insufficient power supply, so it might be a little bit extra troublesome…

yeah i was planning on going before and then decided not to because of the tsunami…but with flights so cheap and i’m assuming other stuff will be to i can’;t really pass it up now. anyway i just read an article about tourism in japan and they said alot of the stuff we are hearing is overexagerated and life is going on as usual.

but im not there so i don’t know…any updates on the power situation would help too!

indeed, life goes on as usual. the only difference is maybe now its darker at night since japan is saving power wherever, whenevers possible. anyway its not like im sayin that you better not come or anything.

FINALROUNDBATS Season 2. Let’s Run It BACK!

FINALROUNDBATS (JAPAN) Season 2 "Basic Info"
O.K. So let’s run it back! There was a little bit of disbelief last year when we started this tournament but now. . . I think people can actually see that the system works. Last year, Tokido earned the right to go Final Round XIV but for this next series. I would like to send at least 2 people or even a small team to Atlanta for FRV!

Please note that the VENUE has been changed to accommodate more players and give us the ability stream the event. We have moved the event to Stonestone in Kotesashi on the Seibu Ikebukuro line. I’m going to miss the SKYLOUNGE but Soundstone is an actual bar that also functions as a live house. So the owner has agreed and actually wants us to use the venue as such. O.K. So you are probably wonder what exactly does this mean. Well, in a nutshell. The owner is also a drummer. He is welcoming anyone who attends any FRB and has their own instruments or band a chance to play. Think of it as a Live Session if you will. . . But don’t fret the games will still be on for those who still want to play after the tournaments. HFZ69 will be freestlying and If you are really really really really really lucky. You might get to see me do some spoken word.

Points System Changed: (Because, Even numbers are cool!)
1st: 10pts.
2nd: 8pts.
3Rd: 6pts.
4th: 4pts.
5th~: 2pts.

And I’m thinking about doing an overall point system but more on this later.

GODSGARDEN will be handling the streaming. After talking to Inaba-San, I have to admit some of the extra stuff we are planning for the FRB stream is gonna be hella sick if we pull it off!

FinalRoundBats01: June 4th
Time: 4pm - 11pm (But all are welcome to stay and play and get drunk afterwords)
Venue: Soundstone
Closet Station: Kotesashi
Event Fee: ¥3,000 / entry & 1 drink ticket. "There might be an extra discount for girls. MIGHT!"
Bar Menu: I don’t know if he’s going to change the menu but everything will 500yen. Food & Drinks
Games: SSFIV, MVC3, MK9 & T6
This will be the last time we play SSFIV but the points will transfer to SSFIV:AE.

FACEBOOK: FINAL ROUND
Twitter: FRBJapan

And also congratulations to BULL410, who is the now the newly crowned Director of Final Round Japan!

goddamn the place is almost 2 hours from my place ?(ggpo to going back home on the same day hahah)… its gonna hurt my wallet more too, with 3000 only being for entry and 1 drink (no pizzas etc)

other than that good shit. hopefully theres gonna be a higher turnout.

lol @ me freestyling

sounds like it will be a nice venue

questions regarding the fee… so basically its 3000 to get in with one drink. the pizza and byob system is obviously gone. so what does the 3000 cover other than entrance into the venue? do we still have to pay a separate entry fee per tournament game? does the 3000 cover entry to all 4 tournaments?

also, how will points work? will there be separate rankings for each game or will the points from all 4 tournaments be combined? will one game alone (whatever the main game is) determine who goes to fr, or will all 4 tournament scores be pooled to send the overall best player among the 4 games?

sorry, just wanna clear that up

No problem.

3000/one drink and all the tournaments.

As of right now, the winners of SSFIV and T6 will go to FRV (confirmed). If we have a good turn out at each tournament, then we can bring more players. I want us to make FRBJapan into more of a social event here in Japan and I want to give some of the good but unknown players out here a chance to shine. (Like that guy who played Guile who came to Shinagawa that time)

Ultimately, I want to form a team of 5. Each tournament’s winner and the player with the highest cumulative score that DID NOT WIN A TOURNAMENT aka the 5th Man! We will all really need to push it to get this to work. But I believe it can be done!

Where’s the kansai love? D:

Can we at least have one during summer vacation or on a 3-day weekend so we can ATTEMPT to make it out there? Pleeeeeease

I will start to look for a date now but plz bring Kunai and Az with ya’! An if Wintermute shows up, I just might have him address the state of the Union or some other important matter that needs to be tackled on the stream.

Update:
FR01: June 4th
FR02: July 9th
FR03: August 6th

So right now we are trying to have our event within the 1st/2nd weekends of every month up until Feb 2012!
The pre-registration for FRB01 will be up by wednesday next week!

Just to get things straight. Its okay to visit Japan without any trouble, except for blackouts?

I don’t know if the blackouts are even still happening but as far as I know yeah, Japan’s A’OK.

Yeah, I think we are OK now. (But I am drunk!)

blackouts are only “expected” to happen more comes summer, japan power problem seems to be pretty serious.

anyway, id say just come if you want to. unless another big(or bigger) quake happens, you should be okay.
