The Official Custom Arcade Sticks Thread

Thanks.
Picking up my Lexan tommorow… usually it’s while-you-wait, but they’re sorta busy. Sucky…

I’ll start drilling tommorow. Might drill carriage colts, then drill button holes.

Going to be soooo long before I can get my stick/buttons… stupid Canada.

hey can anyone tell me how easy it is to mod a red octane stick?? im gettin one, at work we have some 8-ways lying around that i can prolly get from the manager and im also hoping i can change the buttons also?

also whats the best Ps2 to DC converter? i need to play my DC with the stick as well.

any help would be tremendously appreciated.

lol @ vinny, just beat on that shit man, thats what u should have done saturday on the 2 player sticks.

ssjbrydon: It should be really easy, if the holes are standard size (1 1/8")

All you have to do is swap out the stick/buttons and replace it with new ones. There is a pcb inside the stick, its in a square shape.

btw. does that mean you are not buying my stick anymore?

alright i have one question since im thinking of replacing my happ ultimate 8 way with a korean stick.

are all bases the same height/width?

i dont want to have to drill new holes for this stick once i get it.

oh and if its possible, can i just put the stick itself into my ultimate base?

thanks people.

can anyone tell me how to replace my x-arcade stick with a competition happs 8-way stick?

lol well im looking at spending only 60 total for a stick + dc converter w/shipping. ur stick was 70 which is a nice price, but i need to get a converter with that still. i havent bought the RO yet but im still thinking about what i should get.

Carriage bolts in lexan

This is what I assume to do:
Drill holes for bolts, file corners so carriage bolt grips.

That’s how, right? Just dbl checking… :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: done top… need to file holes for carriage bolts to be complete.
Capcom layout w/ one extra button on the bottom row and GGXX style respect button  suh-weet. Lexan/MDF drill super nice… thanks for the help

i read thru most of the thread and im jes wondering, has any tried getting to get a carpenter or some1 professional make a box for you??

i know nothing about woodworking but im not gonna be satisfied with jes a rectangle box so how much u suppose it would cost to get some1 make one for you??

im sure someone has. it wouldnt hurt doing so actually. you could probably make teh box look even better if you actually did

Just a note on the lexan. I live in Los Angeles, and I happened to go to two different Home Depots that were about 3 miles apart. Just between the two different stores there was a 2 dollar difference per ft.

Did some more research, and it looks like prices on Lexan vary quite sharply from place to place.

Buyer beware.

Anyone know the mounting dimensions for the Happs P360 joystick and where to drill the holes for the carriage bolts? Are they the same as other Happ joysticks (i.e. competition, ultimate)? I’m asking this because the Happ website doesn’t give the measurements of where to drill the holes, and I am currently waiting on my P360 joystick in the mail. Thanks in advance.

this is my biggest concern if i were to make a stick, and the wiring of course.

since it your first time putting in the stick…i would suggest you wait for the stick to come in.align the stick base properly and mark your drill holes. doing otherwise may lead to excess holes in your wood, misalignment, etc.

yup, same dimensions. i also started with the comp, then got a 360 but it doesnt work. the voltage for the 360 is +5 but my game pad has 3.5 or something like that. anyone else have this problem?

also, what thickness did u guys get for your layer of lexan on top?

im thinkin 1/8th inch would be good, not sure though.

where can i get an old agetec stick from? if i decide to make my own stick i dont feel like soldering cuz i know i will fuck up like i did with @ work with final furlong headbars…

edit: what about psx 2000’s? i hear they are good???

hi guys this is great thread keep it going.

this is my first post on this thread but ive been reading through it for quite some time now.
i have a question im going to start building my dreamcast stick tommrow i almost have all the materials for it,im using the dc gamepad for my pcb.
my question is i have the ultimate joystick from happcontrols and was reading in the the early pages of this thread that the ultimate stick sucks for this project.whats you opinion about the stick and what problems have you had with it.becuase if it sucks that bad ill just order the competion stick instead.

thanks in advance ill be sure to post a pic of my joystick in a week or so when its done.

For the project it doesn’t really matter.
Both the ulitmate and competition have the same holes for carriage bolts.
The difference is when you playw ith them. To me there really isnt much of a difference but to some ppl the ulimate feels cheaper.

The ulimate stick is used in most arcades.
hope that helps

Need some opinons

I used to own a suh-weet 2P X-arcade stick for my PC/PS2. It was modded big time with all Happ Comp. buttons and stick. It had light up buttons and a new template covered in lexan. To save space, I sold it and bought an X-arcade 1P unit for my Xbox/PS2/PC. I upgraded all the goodies to Happ, but for some reason I friggin hate it. I hate the design and do not feel like modding it further.

I do not understand why, but I cannot do anything properly with this new stick on my Xbox. Moves like fireballs NEVER seem to be reliable and do not get me started on Supers or combos. I have read that there is a known latency problem with the Xbox X-Arc adapter. I am hoping that is it, but I have a serious interest in a MAS Systems instead with a P360.

If you own a MAS or have used a P360 please tell me what you think about it. It just seems that it would be more “accurate” without having switches and would more resemble the digital reliablity. (optical sensors)

It’s such a pain getting perfect cuts without table saw…

hopefully I get my buttons soon. I can’t do lot of stuff on a pad. :frowning:
