…
I wanna know if I can swap out my happ competition buttons and replace it with japanese buttons?
And what size do I need to cut out the holes to fit sanwa joystick and buttons?
I believe…
Happ
28mm or 1 1/8"
Sanwa/Seimitsu
30mm or 1 3/16"
At least, that’s what I gathered from other posts.
Quick question, I am looking for somebody going by the name of Laurie, with regards to doing a DC stick mod…?
Edit: Not to worry, I think I found him.
Hey all, I’m looking to mod my T5 stick with a new sanwa stick, buttons, and artwork as well. I kind of have an idea of what to do, but it’d be nice if someone can give me more help. Are any of you will to IM me on AIM or something to help?
Why don’t you just ask on here? Or were you planning on doing something like using goatse or lemonparty artwork?
I guess I could just ask for help on here. But I hope it won’t be annoying if I have small, stupid questions that aren’t answered by the other threads yet.
So far, this is the artwork I have: http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/244/untitled4oj1.jpg
But i feel that it’s kind of bland, and that the sky blue doesn’t work too well with the black t5 case. Any other ideas?
You could always just change the background color.
But also, you know that the dust cover on the stick is going to cut off part of part of the picture on the right. Its hard to say exactly how much it will cut off just based on the picture, but it will probably cut half of the hand. If it doesnt bother you then its okay, but just wanted to make you aware of that.
Also, dont worry about asking small questions that seem stupid. Thats the whole point of this topic, to answer any question about stick building/modding no matter how big or small, so that the forum doesnt get overrun with lots of little topics.
Yeah, it’s the bg color. If you want, why don’t you create a custom bg or something to make the image stand out more? Or you can use a darker bg to help with that. Remember light inside/dark outside and dark inside/light outside, but it all depends on the color scheme used. You wouldn’t want to use a red square inside a larger yellow square, but a yellow square inside a large red square works beautifully.
Like Chaosdragon mentioned, that dust cover is going to cover part of the hand, but it won’t be that bad. At least it’s not as bad as the T5 stick itself where it ruins Jin’s bicep/tatoo. Another thing you may/can add is the text/buttons. /, [ ], O, X, R1, R2, Start, Select, etc… I noticed how you only have 6 buttons as to 8, so I’m assuming you’re going for the Capcom 6-button layout? In that case, jap, strong, fierce/short, forward, roundhouse.
Hope this helps.
Okay, I started working on another design. Here it is: http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/4123/untitled5yr3.jpg
So, better or worse? The background still bothers me. But I don’t really know of ways to “make” backgrounds. That or I was thinking of taking some stock photos related to Haruhi and just putting in some nice filters or something (or play around with the layers). I think the dustcover might cover Yuki up even more this time. Any suggestions on alternative placement?
For art placement, if you want something that goes from top to bottom then its going to get cut off somewhere. So you want to set it in a place where no vital parts of the picture get cut off. What is a vital point of the picture? Its what ever you dont want to get cut off, or something that you think will make the picture look odd if it gets cut off.
Another thing to remember is that the buttons also have a small lip on them which can cut off the pictures which are right next to the buttons holes. Its hard to tell just from the picture but I think you will be okay with that. The only thing that might get cut off is the bottom corner of the D in DVD.
If you want a picture to not get cut off then you need to do one of two things. Either you place the picture in the lower left half of the stick where it wont be affected by the dust cover or buttons, or you can place the picture on the right of the stick over where the buttons are and get those clear Seimitsu buttons that you can mod to put art under the button’s plunger. The second method would still cause a small portion to get cut off since the plunger isnt the same diameter as the hole, but it will be minimal.
As for the background color on the new one. I dont think its that bad as long as you get button colors to match.
Yes. That would work nicely as it is the same material used for arcade panels. You seen them peeled off before right? Better alternative over con-tac paper
DVD:madZ: Do you know how to create backgrounds using photoshop? You can create lightning, TV scan lines, or even use a bg from a picture or something. The main image looks great, it’s the bg you have to work on.
I’ve made my own. Here is a pic of my last stick artwork made days before Evo.
Okay, I think perhaps I should work with the first design a bit more. The general consensus is that it’s more funny, so more funny = more win. But I do need to work with the background. Also, I want to throw in some images for the background of the Nagato Yuki in Lucky Star (complete with Kona-ruhi) and Minami (with purple hair). I don’t have the image with me where I’m posting, sadly. I’ll upload one later tonight. If anything, though, yeah, I do need help making good background images with photoshop.

That’s it with some edits done to it. Please give critiques.
could someone post some pics of good solder points on a sanwa JLP (whichever it is, the standard japanese cab stick). The microswitches look a hell of a lot smaller on this than my old hori stick. I’m new to soldering so any help with that would be appreciated (desoldered them fine whew).
Sanwa JLFs should come with a 5 pin harness. The only soldering u’d have to do is from the harness to PCB of the controller, not the stick, unless you opted for the non 5-pin harness version of the stick.
yeah, I suppose so. I desoldered the wires from the stick to get the stick loose and out of there. Guess I need to desolder the wires from the pcb as well.
There’s a weird glue on the pcb holding all the wires from the joystick together, can I use the soldering iron to heat that up and get rid of it? I assume not but how else would I get it off? cut it?
If you could take some pictures and post them, I would be able to help you out a little more. A little confused at the moment.
Are there any sanwa buttons I can quickly swap into the dreamcast agetec stick without having to grind the button holes in the metal faceplate?
Nope. I believe the button holes are too small.
