The Official Custom Arcade Sticks Thread II: A New Era of Builders

Glad you like it.
For viewers it’s a Happ comp stick with sanwa 30mm snap in buttons.

Nitewalker

you had to go and use my all time favorite series for the decal huh?
very awesome…

lol thanks. It was actually dracula_x’s artwork. I have that wallscroll though. Castlevania is the best 2d series out there outside of fighting games.

Why are those extra blocks in there, if they are not fastening both panels(only screwed into one), and do not make for a stopper?

I use corner braces all the time, but add them after the 5 panels have been put together. I simply apply them with glue and temporary clamps to add strength. I’ll also cut them to size to make a stopper for a recessed bottom panel.

Last thing…when screwing 2 panels together, use 2 screws on one side and just 1 on the other.

I just don’t get what you did…

The blocks are for the bottom to screw into. I use rubber feet on the bottom so I like to use good sized blocks for added support.

I imagine I could make them smaller and use only glue but I like the solid feel of adding the bigger blocks and screwing them in.

No corner braces are necessary. Like I said the blocks in there are for bottom support. These sticks are small enough where no corner braces are needed.

I only use one screw in each corner because I can’t safely fit any more. With the glue I use (double coated Titebond III) more than one screw isn’t necessary. Also my joints are very tight fitting so one part of the joint isn’t getting more stress than another.
Believe me, solid as a rock. I went through a few versions of this stick and this one seems to be the most solidly built. I know I could probably skip a few steps or minimize them (make the blocks smaller, etc.) but I just feel safer building them this way and not having to worry about them falling apart any time soon.

you guys have any methods or plans that i can get ideas from to build my next box from? i don’t really want to break out the router and route away again  but i do want to be able to use custom art under a plexi/lexan sheet.

Fucking sweet artwork! Castlevania!!!

does anybody know if there is a 5v in the Tekken 5 stick?

I was wondering what people think of having a slight slant on their custom sticks.

Does it hurt your wrists when you play on it?

I’m getting a 2nd custom made and have never played on a slanted case before. A flat model is comfortable, but if the case is slanted downwards and you have to tilt your wrists up, wouldn’t that put alot of strain on your wrists?

Depends on if you play on the ground or on a table or on your lap. I always prefer a slant whether it is big or small.

You wouldn’t have to tilt your wrists up. Think about when you type. Your arms from the elbow up are slated upward. This is similar to playing on a stick. If played at the right height, your arm bend would match the slant of the joystick somewhat. For instance, playing on the T5 stick, I can’t do much unless I play with it in my lap and slanted a bit. The usual slant is between 5 and 8 degrees. Really it all depends on how you play.

hey guys i was wondering, does anyone know what sticks are used for most arcades? i know in CTF in NYC theres a mvc2 cab that uses a p360 thats pretty sweet, but i was looking into getting something that the 3s cab uses…i can’t tell the difference between sanwa/hrap etc. basically, does anyone have a good choice in stick/button combo that a newb to sticks would use?

Comp stick and Happ buttons would be fine i guess.
The 3s machine and the MvC2 machines at my arcade use those. The T5:DR and GGX2 machines are all sanwas.

Happ stuff works fine but the sanwa parts seem easier to use for me. Whatever floats your boat. Never tried setimitsu or however you spell it buttons :stuck_out_tongue:

does anyone know where to get korean parts? like the fanta’s, or crown, etc… i looked at the link on the first page but it seems as though no one looks at that thread anymore.
please help

Haven’t been posting in here for a while, but been busy working on editing vids for the last tourney I entered. Check them out here http://zachd.com/mvc2/#psm

Currently working on a new 2 player setup, nothing new. I have made updates to the template. Made the .psd files rgb mode vice grayscale… however if you dl the current template, you can easily convert it back to rbg mode. More on that later. I will also include a 2 player template, and templates with artwork that I’ve done using photoshop… totally customizable (layers that is) so expect those to come with a read me file as well for further instructions/help if needed.

I believe laugh is the guy that people used to get Korean parts from. I don’t know if he still does that or not though. PM him and see.

ok thanks

I have a quick question about Happ concave buttons: Why are the black and white buttons a bit taller than the other colors?? This bugs the hell out of me…
The actual plunger part (the part you press) is a bit taller than the plunger on any other color buttons.

Hmm… I’ll have to check this out when I get home.

Ive noticed that some white happs that I have seem much taller to my hands. And, they are concave, not competition buttons. Its kinda wierd.
