Hey toodles, quick Q. I might need one of those usb jacks, at least temporarily. Can I get one at say, Radio Shack, or Fry’s?
i got a cthulhu from lizardlick not too long ago… seems like it would be worth it to make a multi-stick out of it.
you can still dual mod w/ an xbox360 controller w/ the multi console right?
how much would it cost me to have my current cthulhu converted?
I’m a total noob at this and reading some of the stickies and posts have me even more confused on what I need to get.
I have a 360 SFIV TE stick, and would like to add PS3 compatability along with bluetooth/sixaxis wireless support. What am I buying? Just the cthulhu board?
hey toodles
sent you payment of 53USD for 1 assembled ps3 board + postage to AUS :karate:
Possibly, but I’d bet on Fry’s before Radio Shack. Even then, it would probably be easiest to just find a sacrifice USB cord and solder the four wires to the board directly; hell, they’re even labelled with the color for you
You can get an upgrade chip and diodes from me; price is in the first post.
No problem. All you need is a PS3 Cthulhu (assembled or unassembled, your choice) and some way of routing the signals to the USB cord, either a DPDT switch or an Imp board. What I’d suggest doing is just getting an Imp along with the Cthulhu and following Bomberman’s guide completely. The electronics in the 360 TE are identical to the electronics in the SE he uses, but you’ll have to figure out where you want to mount everything inside the case.
Big problem. Wireless just isn’t going to happen, Cthulhu or not.
Thanks for the quick answer, i’ll def be purchasing from you once I’m ready to do so.
Good day.
With the pre-assembled MC Cthulhu I am assuming a usb cable can be hooked up to it right out of the box for it to work with the ps3. I became a little confused with the instructable for the xbox1. Is step one telling me that if I already have a USB cable attached for use with the ps3 that I can just use a USB-> xbox1 adapter?
Thank you kindly for your time.
That is correct.
That is also correct.
ps3 only ? xbox360?
I am wondering …
I wanted to do the PS3 & xbox360 dual mod. Do do i have to get the Multi Console version?
Or is the “ps3/pc” version ok?
thanks,
Redcrusher
Either one will work. If you just want to go with PS3 only, you’re welcome to do so. The steps are the same.
Hey toodles followup on the N5817 diode’s
I found an NTE 585 which is the NTE equiv of the ON Semi 1N5817 in a catalog at Frys but I had to skip buying it for today b/c I couldnt figure out how to bridge the catalog number to the packaging number which seem to have different numbering schemes.
I found some .8 V Forward drop 1 Amp diodes at radioshack but those specs didnt match the 1N5817 .
From what I can tell this is a 1 Amp Fast Switching Schottky Barrier Diode with sub .5 V FVD which is basically a higher performance diode than a P-N diode(paraphrase from wiki), why do you use a Schottky Barrier Diode over a regular P-N diode on the MCC?
Voltage drop. Even with a good amount of current going through it, the voltage drop ends up being about 0.2-0.3 volts through a 5817. It won’t matter for the other consoles using 5v sources, but for using it on a PSX, that means we have just a hair over 3 volts to use, instead of the 2.5v or less we’d have with just about any other diode.
toodles question, i’m wiring up a p360 with dual 360, MC cthulhu and imp. do I draw the power/ground from the MC cthulhu board (the dedicated soldering point) or the 5V+ and ground for the p360 from the imp to make it work for both system? the only thing I can see that’s a problem here is if I draw the power form the imp, and I use the ps2, the power going in will be 3.3V since it’s not hitting the MC for the step up, but if I draw it from the MC, then I won’t be able to use it for 360. or do I do both? one 5V/ground from the x360 and another from MC. help greatly appreciated.
Hi Toodles,
I just paypal’d you US-$127 for
2 assembled MC Cthulhus,
2 Imp kits,
2 Xbox1 cables,
and shipping to Germany.
Finally making some progress on my case so I’ll be set when your boards arrive.
I’ve always just had the 360 board VCC and GND connected to the MC Cthulhu piggyback points, just like the signal connections, works like a charm.
On my setup, the only wires from the 360 board NOT connected to those piggyback points on the end of Cthulhu are the two data lines which now go to the Imp.
I must admit I haven’t tried using a PS2 controller with this setup but I can confirm it works for PS3/PC/360.
thanks for the help, but I was talking about wiring up an optical joystick (happ perfect 360) and drawing power for it. I know how to wire up the x360, cthulhu, and imp.
Oops, sorry about that.
Use the VCC screw terminal on the MC for the p360. USB power should be going from the USB cable -> Imp -> MC Cthulhu V column (so it goes through a diode) -> MC Cthulhu VCC unlabelled point -> Xbox360 board.
Hey toodles. I didn’t see this in the instructions, but is there a way to “snap” or “secure” the IC in the IC socket? It doesn’t want to go in easy, and I don’t want to break it either.
Also, if I buy a USB B cord and cut it at the B end, it will have 4 wires inside, correct? And those will bethe colors indicated on the cthulhu board?
Just slow steady pressure with your thumbs straight down.
Yes (at least they should be. The wire color is part of the USB standard.) There may also be some uninsulated wiring sheath around the wires for a shielding ground. Just trim those back so they dont touch anything.
