I did a piss poor job or organizing my wires, so if you want to see something specific, let me know.

I dont see where the D+/D- from the Xbox360 pad is connected, unless its in that RGWB column next to where the USB jack is, in which case that’s the wrong spot. Bottom soldering of the board looks sketchy as hell, but for super small photos, that’s all I got.

the D+/D- is soldered from the bottom in the connectors just under the 4066 chip… is my oscillator flipped by any chance?

Oscillator can’t be flipped. It’s the USB wiring that’s jacked up. Please point out the exact spots on the board where the outgoing USB cable is connected (all four wires, the power, ground, D+/D-), and where the four USB wires are going to the 360 board (power, ground, D+/D-) are connected to the Chimp.

Received my chimpsmd and got it all installed and it works perfectly. Thanks toodles again for great service and the extra stickers!!

Ok, I labeled it and left the pictures enlarged in case you see something

thanks for your help

Move the Xbox D+/D- over to the side to the spots labeled XD+/XD- and try it out again on both consoles.

it works on my ps3! but I have a problem that I didn’t get to test before.

my joystick is alwys inputting right, LP, select, start, and guide… does that mean my ground wires are shorting with something?

Check the voltages on those points. If the voltage is low, the Chimp will think the microswitch is activated and report it as pressed.

ok I fixed everything except the constantly going right thing. turns out i spliced the ground wire for those other buttons instead of the other one.

only thing is i can’t figure out why I’m still going right. When i check voltage on ground&right it’s a bit over 4 volts and when I press right, it drops to 0. Any ideas?

It only does this in chimppc/ps3 mode , xbox is fine

Has anyone had experience with a ChimpSMD getting locked in bootloader mode?

Here’s the scenario

ChimpSMD connect to TE-S PCB
On first build, everything was good
Both systems okay with the three button switch system activation

I flashed the ChimpSMD with the XBOX guide button variant bootloader using Window 7 Ultimate N (64bit)
And bootloader.exe said everything okay

Unplug and replug.
First pass, finds Cthulhu/PS3 okay
Second test, plug in with guide button pressed to switch to XBOX - no dice

Green light is on on te Chimp indicating pass through to XBOX PCB
Nothing shows up in joy.cpl !?!?

Unplug, plug in. ChimpSMD stays in PS3 mode (red light) but nothing in HID report or joy.cpl
Try both consoled - no dice on either

Go back to PC to flash with current bootloader an I noticed that bootloader.exe shows that te HWB is enabled without me pressing anything (start+select)

Bootloader.exe allows me to bootload any of the hex files but never escapes the HWB mode

Is there anyway of forcing the ChimpSMD out of HWB mode?

Take the wires out of one of those screw terminals and plug it it that way to test. It should go into bootloader mode if Start and Select are low; if its going into bootloader, they’re low, and if the buttons arent pressed, the other board may be pulling them low. Test it without Start and select connected to the Chimp. If the Chimp goes into bootloader when connected and doesn’t when not, then you need to diode those signal lines so the offending board wont pull them down.

If the bootloader still occurs, the main code area is blank and hasnt had a hex properly written to it. Make sure the exe’s and hex files are in the same directory and the programming actually progresses at a watchable speed.

Thanks @toodles
I’ve done most of what you mentioned

Only thing I can think of is the folder issue
I will give it a whack later tonight

Resolved! Kinda!

I jumped onto VMWare on my mac in XP 32bit and managed to get myself out of the locked HWB
PS3/Cthulhu in joy.cpl was all lights go
XBOX still failed.

I jumped the KGND to GND on the TE-S 360 - Green light on ChimpSMD on, no luck in joy.cpl
I did notice that going into XBOX mode made the joy.cpl look like it was refreshing over and over

Heres the weird one.
I desoldered the 3 LEDs (Power, PS3, XBOX) on the ChimpSMD and PRESTO, XBOX okay.
Maybe the LEDs where stealing too much voltage (although minimal) from the XBOX supply through the 4066n, some weird fluctuation perhaps

Never the less, on PC i seem to be locked into XBOX mode (LOL) but that’s okay.
PS3 console works
XBOX console works

donno whats up with the set up. maybe it’s the weird combo of ChimpSMD + XBOX TE-S PCB in a PS3 round 2 (i disabled the mainboard)

happy with my results
thanks for the guidance @toodles

So I finially hooked up my chimp to my stick and buttons, still haven’t added Xbox PCB yet. Before I added the buttons and stick it was being picked up by both the PC and PS3 and now nothing… not being picked up at all. Any ideas?

Hey Toodles, I purchased an MC Cthulhu and Imp and successfully did a dual mod on my TE. Then I purchased an optical stick, one of those Dreamcast ones. I tried to do the install and failed somewhere installing the joystick as the stick does not work at all. The stick has been sitting i’m my closet for over a year now, and I cannot find the old diagrams I used to do the work. Do you have a diagram to do such a heavy mod? Perhaps there is a different process with the optical I over looked. I’d like to get this thing working again and can’t afford to pay someone to do it. Thanks.

Nope.

I do not. The power and ground can be gotten from the VCC and GND screw terminals, directions just go to the direction screw terminals.

A few more details please

  1. OS on Windows?
  2. is the Blue light on on the ChimpSMD (power)?
  3. is the Red light on on the ChimpSMD (PS3/PC)?
  4. Have you done any bootloader firmware updates?
  5. When you plug it in does your computer go ā€˜bing’?
  6. have you checked the device manager?
  7. does the ChimpSMD enumerate under HID devices or Game Controllers?

Windows Xp
It’s not an SMD
No bing
Nothing on device manager
