Oh man, I should see if they’d have a bulk discount…

No it didn’t. I wired the second cthulhu just like the first one, and it worked the first time out. I plugged it in and it was immediately detected.
I am wiring the buttons now, but the home worked so I am confident the others will too. The first cthulhu though wasn’t detected at all, nothing happened when it got plugged in, this one fired right up like a champ.
I started to feel fairly bad since everyone said how easy these were and I couldn’t get it to work to save my life. This second one, yeah SUPER easy!
So does the original one work on its own?
Not sure, honestly once I unhooked it I left it on my desk. I can give it a shot and let you know. I’m not super worried about it though, I had 2 since I planned on making one for myself and one for my friend, but he ended up not needing one so the second cthulhu was just going to sit in a box in my garage. If you want though I’ll test it.
Tetz I’m glad you got something working!
The Cthulhu is out of stock from both vendors as of today. This is what I get for waiting.
Can anybody help me out? I need to kill myself for waiting. I need Cthulhu, Imp. Blue bubbletop, and maybe a cool dustwasher.
Questions- I notice LizardLick describes the regular PC/PS3 Cthulhu as being compatible with Mac; when I plugged mine in to mine (OSX, Intel) nothing happened… just wanted some clarification on this, in the OP I don’t notice anything regarding Mac.
Also, methinks I’ll be ordering a MC upgrade kit for the PS3 board soon (I needs Wii/PS2 support), is there in fact a USB>Gamecube cable that would hook into the cable I’m already using (which would be super convenient) or it seems I’ll have to do some other soldering work to the board itself?
And about PS2 support, would I need a PS2 connection, or can I use the PS2’s USB port?
I’m just a touch confused about these issues, sorry to ask questions that have likely been answered before.
Side-note, how annoying that one can’t simply just use one of the Wii’s USB ports for a stick.
Hey guys, looks like I’ve come across a bit of a problem. This is on a Madcatz SE 360 stick dual mod with ps3 cthulhu and imp switch. The problem is that the LT or 4K button does not work in the SFIV game via cthulhu. However, when testing using Windows (control panel > game controllers) via cthulhu, it shows that the 4K button is being activated correctly. When using the 360 side of it, the button works perfectly. I’ve doubled and tripled check the soldering job from the cthulhu to the madcatz SE pcb and I have run out of ideas. Oh and yes the 4K button is mapped in the game =P.
Just a quick question.
Is it possible at all to wire an existing HRAP3 home pannel up to a cthulhu? i realize the entire ps3 pcb is there, but im mostly wondering if i can just snip/strip some existing wires and use the start/select buttons.
I had the same issue as you and I finally figured it all out. Before when I recieved my MC Kit I thought it would work w/a usb cable but that usb slot is for the mic and ps2 third-party stuff. You’ll need to cut up a ps2 controller or extension cord. Once you trim up the wiring the first top row will be the spot for your ps2 controller. The wires are really tiny and so are the parts you have to solder. I had to run so many troubleshooting because something was shorting on my board. My problem was when I looked underneath the board I found 2 pins touching each other. haha…ya I’m a noob.
I wanna get a wii for that Capcom vs tatsunoko… Good thing WII is capable of gamecube controllers. So, in my case if I wanted to have both ps2 and gamecube, I would have to solder the next row on the board. I think max on 1 board you can put is 3 controllers.
Thanks Toodles, for such a great product. Resurrected a hrap that’s been dead for a few years.
Good news for you UK and EU folks, Gremlin Solutions is now carrying the Cthulhu. Please do your best to show them your love if they’re the most convenient retailer for you.

so i have a custom dual mod stick for the 360 and ps3. The madcatz pad and cthulhu. When i play on my 360, the stick connects fine, but when i try to play on ps3, i get a message saying, “An unknown device has been connected” and my stick doesnt work, can anyone help me out please?
Ok, I can’t find the assembled Cthulhu kit for the PS3/PC anywhere… they all seem to be sold out.
So is there a chance I can get it from somewhere else?
you can always order it directly from toodles. He described how to do that on the first page.
You can order direct if you like; details are in the first post. If you’re looking to order along with stick parts (buttons, sticks, etc) I know that there is a very large batch currently en route to Nareg at GamingNow.net; I expect he’ll have his site updated to show he has stock in the next 2-3 days.
If the Imp works in a dual-mod Cthulu/360 stick for the PS3, but the 360 portion doesn’t, does that mean the wiring is screwed up or the 360 PCB is bad?
Could be either one Green. Check the Imp first and see if it’s getting the right voltage where it needs it, then repeat with the 360. You should be able to check the voltage on the power on the 360 and see 5v, then the D+ should register a little over 3v.
To make a change I’d just like to post how my Cthulhu and Imp worked flawlessly, and to thank Toodles for developing the boards
I use mine on my intel MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6) with no issues. Shows as PS3/Cthulhu and works perfectly in MAME. If you’re using it for MAME, make sure you’ve enabled joystick support in whatever front end you use. Also if MAME is already open when you plug the joystick in you’ll probably need to close it out and re-open it.
