Picked up Transformer: Strormbringer, as far as Collected trades go…oh yeah, BABY!
Alright, time to light the pyres and start the fires - let’s do this!
Irredeemable vol. 1 - Truthfully I wanted to like this one more than I actually did. Maybe it was overhyped for me. It was definitely a solid story, but there was just something missing for me. Maybe it’s because the trade only collected four issues. I thought the superheroes other than the Plutonian were kind of dumb on a design level. I didn’t feel there were enough answers or insight to really get me to care about anything yet. I did like the tone of the whole proceedings, and I’m interested enough to give the next volume a try.
X-Factor: Happenings in Vegas - Didn’t love this one, making two somewhat lackluster x-factor trades in a row (although lackluster PAD is better than most on their game). I still don’t like that this series was re-numbered back to the old numbers. I want more Layla and Madrox, less distracting plot. This is also another really short trade.
The Punisher: In the Blood - This is the mini that wrapped up Rick Remender’s run. I had actually only read the wonderful Franken-Castle OHC of his, so I was a little lost going into this and it picks up from stuff that happened prior to Franken-Castle. This was a solid but not spectacular read with a nice little ending that made me smile. Overall I felt the tone and characterization of the Punisher was too close to Ennis’ max version.
Green Lantern Corps: Revolt of the Alpha Lanterns - Another fun GLC book. The stuff with Boodika was poignant and creepy. I could use more drama with Guy Gardner.
Batman and Robin vol. 3: Batman Must Die - This was excellent, incredible, any adjective you want to use. The tapestry is finally woven together in satsifying form. The end announcing INC. was a great moment and has me really excited for the future…although after this I was like wtf is DC going to do with Batman in DCnU as I would hate to see this all wiped away.
X-Force: Cable and the New Mutants, A Force to be Reckoned With, and Under the Gun - The Rob Liefeld trifecta! Apart from the contents, these are great packages, basically X-Force masterworks. I read most of the material in these 3 volumes when they were originally released, and they have actually held up pretty well, maybe moreso as I appreciate them in a different way. And you know what? I really enjoy the artwork in these books. There are several issues in the third volume that Rob doesn’t pencil, and the quality is like night and day. These are fast paced, enjoyable stories, full of enormous, laughable plot holes. Also, how lame was Kane? That was a Weapon X? “Hey look guys, I’ve got a detachable hand!”
Brightest Day vol. 1 - This was a mixed bag but overall enjoyed it.
Probably the best thing I read last month was the first four volumes of R.E.B.E.L.S. What a great series with great art too. So crappy it got cancelled.
I applaud you for being man enough to be honest about your Rob Liefeld love.
this came in the mail today. I kinda regret not purchasing it at San Diego last month and having Walt sign it but getting it for this price is a steal since other sites are selling it 120+

TFAW is having their Nick and Dent sale this month! 60% off! I already ordered a hundred bucks’ worth of comics.
And Top Shelf is having their crazy sale, too. A bunch of comics now priced at $3 and $1! Other comics are 25%-50% off. There’s some great stuff in there. The Barefoot Serpent, one of my all-time favorite comics is only 3 bucks. From Hell HC is half off. There’s some other Alan Moore stuff and other stuff from creators like Jeffrey Brown, and books like Owly, The Surrogates, and SuperF*ckers on sale.
I haven’t been reading as much as I want to these past few months for a variety of reasons, but I did just finish the first four volumes of Hickman’s Secret Warriors. This was my first Hickman comic and I thought it was okay. Maybe because I didn’t really care about any of the characters, and so the plots fell kinda flat. I still don’t understand how Fury and Dum Dum and those guys are still alive…did they take super soldier serum at some point or something?
Long story short, the Infinity Formula slows down Fury’s and Dugan’s aging.
And Baron Strucker has an off-brand version of it, plus his Claw. You are clear for landing now Gorath.
I thought the reason Dugan didn’t age was because of his sexy 'stache.
Just for the record, I happened to post a bunch of short reviews on TPBs and HCs I’ve read lately.
The rare times I see you know is to just push dat blog.
I miss you.
I haven’t been following the new releases of Marvel too much, and especially DC. After I fell behind a bit on certain books, I learned I could live without them and now my buying habits are almost fully predicated on how much money I can save off the cover price by finding a sweet deal somewhere. (Or I just go to the library.)
I still read the stuff you guys post in the DC and the Marvel threads, but I’ve usually got nothing positive to contribute. It seems so pointless to piss on everyone’s parade because it sounds like you guys are enjoying yourselves for the most part. Some of the current ongoings are things I’d be interested in reading sometime down the line, but it’s just not a priority for me to go to the store every Wednesday anymore. All the needless reboots and revamps and creative team changes and event-driven plotlines and so forth… After years of being a dedicated Wednesday buyer/reader, I can’t do it any longer. They broke me, bub.
They broke me.
I can tell, well know you always have a place here Zephy if and when you decide to return.
havent bought any books in months, all my stuff is still in storage, hopefully will get them out by the end of the month. I’ve been keeping a list of all the books I need to buy. Hopefully the marvel omnibuses I want won’t go out of print by the time I’m able to buy them. I need AoV Crossovers, Evolutionary War, X-Men by Claremont & Lee, and Wolverine by Aaron.
my friend only buys non-super hero comics so I have been perusing his stacks recently and have found some stuff to pick up later in trades. Jennifer Blood is good, and Lapham’s Caligula is pretty awesome.
Vote for your favorite comic book characters!
What is this spam… This has nothing to do with collected editions. I’m going to report you to the forum moderator.
And you reported me to me!
