I got it yesterday, and didn’t get a chance to read it until this morning at 4 AM–but you’d better believe I read it all in one sitting.
Ex Machina TPB 6
[details=Spoiler]Not just an alternate reality. I might be guessing wrong, but it sounds like Mayor Hundred’s powers are the result of technology from a civilization completely unknown to humanity in the “real” world. Aliens? Creatures from the center of the Earth? I’m sure BKV will reveal the answer sooner or later.
It seemed a little sketchy to me at first, since Ex Machina is set in (for all intents and purposes) a mostly-realistic world, but it fits well within perspective when you remind yourself that the main character has conversations with household appliances and used to fight crime with a jet pack and a bright green ray gun.
And the last page of this TPB was probably the coolest “oh shit!” moment ever since the last page of the first issue.[/details]
hundred’s powers come from an alien world. the alien world sent out two weapons to pave the way for their people: hundred’s power over machines, and another’s power over living things. together the powers will open the portal to the other world to let the aliens through. They destroyed their version of earth and so now need ours.
First half of Greent Lantern Corps vol. 2 is called A Darker Shade of Green and wasn’t written by Gibbons. It was quite good.
re-read Exterminators vol. 2 in anticipation of starting on vol. 3…sooo good. It was sad when the guy died though.
Started on FF Omnibus vol. 1…Kirby >>> Ditko when it comes to exciting layouts
Art of Grendel deluxe HC - very good stuff. Oversized art looks great. A lot of stuff I had seen before but cool commentary nonetheless. Not enough focus on Eppy Thatcher, Orion Assante and Grendel Prime though (way too much on Hunter Rose)
Avengers Assemble OHC’s 1-3 - I got these for the George Perez artwork but I think I’m going to sell them. Maybe I just don’t like the Avengers enough or was pissed that Darkhawk didnt make the team or am tired of Busiek’s silver age shtick but I could barely make it through the first volume.
AvP Omnibus vol. 1 - good stuff for the most part. hadn’t read this material in a long time. I love the size of these books. Hopefully they will bring out one for Robocop.
52 vol. 3 - More goodness. I didnt really like the whole Renee Montoya/The Question arc though.
Peter David X Factor Visionaries vol. 3 - this has got to be the slowest moving tpb set of all time. They are still in the issues that I originally collected as a kid. Classic stuff, even though it hasn’t all aged very well. Whatever happened to Larry Stroman?
Dark Tower Gunslinger Born - Wizard and Glass was my favorite book of the series so I enjoyed this even though it didn’t blow me away. I feel they tried to be too faithful and reverent instead of going all out and having fun. Jae Lee art was too much in the shadows for most of it and more a series of pin ups than a dynamic comic story. Very exposition heavy.
DMZ vol. 3 - second-best current vertigo series doesn’t let up. I could read this shit forever.
Punisher Presents: Barracuda Max - I loved this book. How can you not love Barracuda? So many classic moments in this thing. I especially like it when he kills black people.
Check out Geoff Johns’ run on Avengers. The TPBs are World Trust, Red Zone, and The Search for She-Hulk. New Avengers has been pretty great, too, other than the Collective storyarc. Either that, or buy P.Gabby’s Avengers HCs for twice the price he paid for them. If he touched 'em, their value automatically triples, so you’d be getting a great deal.
Yeah, the Cap Omnibus has the whole storyline including issue 25, which was Cap’s death. The Winter Soldier TPBs, the Red Menace TPBs, and the Cap: Civil War TPB are basically issues 1-24.
Death of Cap: Why is this book fucking brown? It seriously looks like there’s a brown filter on everything. A lot of modern comics kind of have this effect, but this one is especially egregious. Oh yeah, and the Cap died… yet I remain strangely unaffected.
Kraven’s Last Hunt: I was prepared for some pretentious grim ‘n’ gritty faggotry, but this actually wasn’t half bad. I read the first issue and skimmed the rest. It seems like they pushed it to be as dark as it could, without losing their handle on Pete as a character.
The Dark Age: This isn’t actually a comic, but it’s about comics and has a lot of interesting stuff in it. It’s basically a big editorial thing about the direction mainstream comics has taken since the 80s (as we all know, often called the “grim ‘n’ gritty” era, or the “Dark Age,” as the book calls it). There isn’t a lot of info in there that I didn’t already know, but there’s a nice interview about Watchmen with Dave Gibbons and some other cool stuff.
dark horse march solits are up. biggest thing to note is the X Omnibus. lovin it
also Ultimate 2 OHC comes out tomorrow. Is Ult FF vol. 4 worth getting? Looks like Mike Carey wrote all of it. I liked the Millar/Land run but not so much Carey’s previous Ult FF story, although I do like his X-Men
I have never read an issue of X in my life, but when I was a kid, that Frank Miller cover totally haunted me. I saw a picture of it in an old issue of Hero Illustrated but never had a chance to buy it. I’ve had that image imprinted in my brain for so many years now that I really want to read X. Did you read it back then? Seems like Steven Grant wrote some of those issues. He’s capable of good stuff.
I haven’t read any of Carey’s Ult. FF (other than the Ult. FF/X-Men mini, if that was his) but I do wanna get that HC. I think I have enough confidence in him now to like anything he writes. Art looks pretty great.
And then when cyborg cap gets taken down the real cap showsup to take over the world and then we findout he’s a skrull.
BTW am i the only one who hates fantastic four? i dunno they always seemed kinda gay and uninteresting to me…though they did give birth to 1 of the greatest villains in all of fictional history i just don’t like the FF themselves.
EDIT: Does anyone know they arrested ironfist and that the real daredevil is still out there? n wtf was up with him having a silver dollar in his mouth? that went right over my head.
