double post (not like anyone cares in this thread)
ok my final thoughts on this BetaDemo:
What I like:
Hit detection seems on point. Even when my connections wasn’t perfect, bullets registered.
Menus are clean and so is the layout (very MW2 in terms of presentation and clean layouts)
Ghost doesn’t force me to keep moving to make it effective (Camping is NOT a crime)
Variety in weapon variants and there’s a LOT of options in equipment
classic weapons return and are unlockable by prestiging (so no BS RNG to aquire them)
In game challenges are back (like get 5 kills with Assault rifles in one match) and they net you more bonuses (like more XP/keys for supply drops/Scrap (AKA salvage for more gun variants). Perhaps the one of the ONLY things Ghosts did right)
What I don’t like (oh boy here we go):
Movement is WORSE than AW. Seriously the wall running feels more clunky than BO3. Some characters can dash but some can’t? very inconsistent and it’s sad to know AW (while erratic) at least was consistent.
Rigs SUCK ASS! Both in the sense that some are very OP and others suck dick shit. Again a WORSE ver os BO3 specialists
Streaks are bland and again I say that it’s sad when even AW had better streaks. Ghosts was still worse but that’s not saying much in comparison.
some equipment and attachments overlaps way too much! while I did say the variety was good…at the same time, much of what they offer is redundant. (one rig has a recharging trophy system but…you can get one from equipment? and there a force-field that does the same as the trophy? what?)
Gun variants are decent to stupid OP. On top of that many variants have mods on them that make no sense
Current maps made gameplay very congested and a bit too fast paced (this can be a good thing if you like hyper fast paced gameplay like AW but I hate it)
what will get ugly:
while they say you can get scrap to get the guns you want…it takes FOREVER to get scrap! in the 3 days I played the Demo, I only got maybe 50? and the first set of guns take 200…on top of that how much you earn was increased for this demo so that means it can take maybe half of this game’s life cycle to get the highest end guns (unless supply drops are lucky to award you more)
supply drops in this game are WORSE than BO3 and AW. at least in AW you actually got guns most of the time and even in BO3 at least the drops had some cool items for customization. This game drops shitty calling cards 90% of the time common or rare drops. Players will get far more pissed as these than the BO3 ones)
customization is complete ass. The soldiers are forgettable and bland. This is subjective but at least the Specialists from BO3 are easy to recognize and thus you know what you’re facing off against when you play.
everything blends together way too much and makes it hard to tell certain things apart (like friendly soldiers vs enemy)
balance between rig/gun combos will be very hard to maintain as some combos will be very OP
what I recommend to improve the game (LOL I know but humor me on this):
Get rid of rigs! (that alone fixes many issues with balance to start)
be more generous with scrap (like say have common drops offer to drop scrap and rares can drop scrap and guarantee bonus scrap/keys)
get rid of the boost movement system (if this game had any hopes of being different from the past two games, it’s already too late)
scarp variants and start over with balancing guns at the base level (that or redo what variant bonuses you get)
less calling cards and more on actual REAL customization. the current options are forgettable and lack personality.
more streak variety
Yeah I gave this game a chance to wow me but…if I’m insane enough, I may give this game the length I gave Ghosts (one month) to win me over but I feel I’ll be doing it just to kill time when I realize I could be wrapping up Wii U/3DS/PC games instead. Seriously, you’re better off looking at this as the game that comes with Modern Warfare Remastered if you want to play it that badly asap. Yes I admit I paid for this but I want to replay online MWR so hate if you will but I look forward to Ground War again using my M16A4. Activision will probably dig its heels deep before buckling and giving everyone MWR as a standalone. Once It does, I hope everyone on XBone here will rejoin the magic of MW1.
for now I may give the trial of BF1 a go and/or continue my play of BO3 Zombies.
Nice write-up. I said earlier that ripping off Treyarch was the best idea I.Ward had in years. But it’s I.Ward; of course they had to go and fuck it up. I felt from the jump rigs might be a problem, because they were throwing too much complexity on them. I also knew there was going to be some fuckery involved with Salvage in order to make Supply Drops viable. I wonder how many pre-orders got canceled because of this beta.
added a few more things I liked as I was staring at the menu but again nothing worth making it worth the purchase or the full time investment.
You know, it was SO EASY to copy paste BO3, I do agree, NuInfinity Ward STILL shitted the bed on this! How do even DO THAT!? I mean it was just so easy to remake and repackage it yet they took the worst elements of each game and made them more frustrating. There’s a way to make the games more deep without it feeling so convoluted. I plan on doing a post on what I’d like to see in a CoD game…
Gave the game a chance this weekend and thought it was terrible. I’ve finally realized what the problem is with the new movement based CODs. It’s like jumping and skating around in a cardboard box. The maps are not big enough and the movement has always felt disjointed and clunky. Titanfall on the other hand does all of this right. I don’t know how they expect to sell another game next yr if it’s another boostfest…the only way to get people to buy that is to bundle mw2. Anyways, I preordered simply so that I can get MWR. Otherwise I would’ve never bought the game.
It already is something else, due to the extra modes and the other small changes. Make no mistake, as much as everyone would love MWR to be untouched and be 100% COD4, there was 0% chance of that ever happening. Just be happy you’ll get it for a couple of months at least.
I’m not saying you should be content with what they’re going to do. I think most people would prefer a perfect recreation with some cosmetic changes and that’s it. But let’s be real, developers can’t help themselves just like artists and writers can’t. There are VERY few of those who, when given the opportunity to go back and recreate a previous piece of work, won’t try to “improve” it or mess with it in some way. The itch will always be there. No way in hell they don’t scratch it.
