It seems we see far too many stories about teachers abusing their position to have sexual relationships with their students these days. We don’t know why it keeps on happening but this story might be the one to end them all.
Alfred Mokoena, was a teacher in South Africa who had an affair with one of his 16-year-old pupils and got her pregnant. As if that wasn’t bad enough - he then discovered that the girl he had been sleeping with was his own daughter.
DNA tests after the baby was born back in 2012 confirmed it and now his daughter is said to not know how to tell her child that their father is also their grandfather.
He denied ever being the father at first in a poor attempt to protect his reputation as an educator but eventually admitted and apologised for his actions. He also apologised for threatening to kill a journalist who reported the story.
*"I took advantage of my daughter because she was my pupil and respected me as her educator. She was young and was supposed to believe whatever I said to her. I am sorry for the fact that I didn’t even bother to look for her all these years while I knew I had a child who lived not so far away from where I live. Let me apologise for threatening to assault and kill you. I was confused at the time and didn’t want people to know the shameful things that I did. I know what I did was wrong.
His daughter spoke to a local news channel and claimed that she didn’t know he was her father at the time. She explained to them that she was fearful of her son being born with disabilities due to the incestuous relationship.
*"I didn’t know he was my dad. I just knew him as my teacher until I fell pregnant. It was when he asked for DNA tests that we both found out we were related. I was shocked and wouldn’t have made it if my family hadn’t supported me. Now he is four years old and I am convinced that he is well because he can talk and walk.
