You would think, but I have yet to see top players make the switch. With Akuma’s small stun bar, SAII would make sense. He just teleports out of Aegis.
You would think if it made sense, top players would be switching. If you know the akuma player is going to teleport, then dont go for the unblockable anyway. Try to catch them coming out of the teleport and launch or throw.
That’s true, but SA1 gives Urien the threat of reversal Super after a blocked Hurricane and maybe other stuff as well (blocked cr.forward, cr.roundhouse, on a random Teleport recovery, etc.). And we all know how Akuma takes damage like a bitch.
Either way, it’s still an uphill battle…:wasted:
the problem is that, if Urien picks SA1, no gouki is going to teleport or spamming hurricanes, he would play like he would vs some other char.
SA3 for the win, aegis can also be used to make your combo longer, if you hit a gouki near the corner with c.hp, do tackle xx lp aegis and tackle him some more.
The problem is it’s so hard to get Akuma in the corner in the first place. Obviously you the akuma would see the unblockables coming.
Just because top players don’t use a super doesn’t mean it can’t be used effectively. Not until recently do you see Japanese players using Ryu SA III. For awhile you couldn’t find a video of them not only using SAI.
Really, if it’s a serious match it’s wise just not to play Urien against Akuma. Urien is my mine player and I haven’t had to much trouble with Akuma’s until I actually played a really good one in a tourney. Urien’s wake up game is non-existent and against a hyper akuma with good mix-ups it’s a choir just to stay off the ground. Better to let Makato put the fear in them.
I dunno man, I think hes manageable. If you use those air fb’s well, he isn’t going to be terribly jumpy. I just wouldn’t be going for the ub’s at all. Like I said, if you bait a teleport, that can lead to another shoulder juggle. He may just sit and block, but its better than going for the ub everytime and failing. Plus a lot of Uriens pokes have great reach. You also should be able to throw Akuma out of blocked hurricanes but I’m not sure.
If you think about it, makoto has poor wakeup options too.
Yeah, I agree. Unblockables aren’t the only way to use Aegis.

Well, how else are you going to utilize Aegis against Akuma? The “Spanking Room” doesn’t work, since he’ll just teleport away if he wanted to. And even if you were able to bait his teleport and guess correctly which teleport he used to get out, what can Urien do? c.fierce, Tackle xx fierce Aegis, Tackle? c.fierce, EX Headbutt, fierce Headbutt for stun? Hell, c.fierce isn’t even guaranteed most of the time anyways if you guessed wrong…
At least with SA1 you can hit him for like 60-65% damage or something without the use of c.fierce, while still having the option of using EX’s generously.
I dunno; for me, using Aegis vs. Akuma is basically hoping Urien gets lucky to land a c.fierce and/or pray the opponent doesn’t know how to reversal teleport out of unblockables. Other than that, I find myself wasting Aegis’es just to try to stop Akuma momentarily from rushing me down, or waiting for Akuma to jump in for an EX Aegis attempt into random Tackles… Or a miracle Headbutt into a Tackle combo…
Also, if you’re suggesting switch characters vs. Akuma, you’ve already lost the match anyways… At least try to find a way around the matchup or something, dammit. And you call yourselves real Urien players…
Yeah, but she can make up for it with a lucky command grab into 100% Stun into GGPO. Or at least post-Hayate mixups to really fuck you over.

That was more in response to Riot Guard when he drew his comparison between makoto and urien.
I don’t personally think the Urien/Akuma matchup is totally stacked. It seems to me aegis is your best bet still, but I don’t play Urien. Maybe you should start trying it.
