Nah, that’s just not fair.
For the younger crowd, Minecraft is incredibly relevant and I guess that’s the target they were trying to reach.
I like that they include a wide variety of characters you would literally never expect, both legacy and new. Like, who the fuck expected Terry Bogard? Or Joker for that matter?
These totally out of left field choices are what I live for. People stay asking for characters that already exist in other fighting games like Dante and Vergil. While I wouldn’t mind a choice like that, it’s so unimaginative.
Give me the girl from Celeste, or the fallen warrior from Dead Cells. Totally unexpected shit. Even if you hate Minecraft with all your soul, you gotta give them credit for picking something so ridiculous and unexpected.

I’ve nevet touched Minecraft but Steve looks like stupid fun. Cannot wait to see all the crazy stuff people do with him when he drops.
Also Enderman creeps me out. Seeing hin peek insidr Snake’s cardboard box both amuses and terrifies me.

So how do you guys think the announcer will pronounce the Minecraft reps? For Steven I’ll bet it will be super positive like “STEEEEVE!!” But for Enderman? “ENNNNNNDEEEEEEEEERMAAAAAANNNNNNnnnnnn”
Enderman is the only thing even slightly interesting to me from the Minecraft world…and one could argue it only halfway counts as a cool thing because it’s a nod to “Slenderman”…and still; it’s just a real shame it all has to be in that shit-ass “style” of primitive 3d/low-poly count graphics 
I’m way behind on Smash, actually… the last thing I did was buy Joker and play around with that character for a short time…nope, I still don’t have Terry (yet).

sidenote—Wii Fit Trainer stands out as a dumb character choice too…he/she is also a waste of a spot, imo.
I dunno, I’m naming my kid Steve before I ever name him Terry tho. 
Terry is short for Terence. Steve is short for Steven.

Steve is definitely iconic. Even people that don’t play games can look at that dude and know where he’s from.
You liking him has no bearing on that.
Wii Fit is a weird one but it works as a representative of the Wii era of games (moreso then even Shulk) and also it lead to a lot of weird fan art that I will give props and condemn them thirsty artists for their imaginations and they make literally a blank faced person do.
Y’know, I actually thought Tetris would be a cool character for Smash ¯_(ツ)_/¯ It could be kind of like Mr. Game & Watch in a way.
So who’s playing SMB35? I have it downloading right now but if there’s a private lobby mode, maybe we can revive game night a bit?

Super Mario Bros. 35 is sooooo GOOD! I never dreamed all the yeara I invested into SMB wouls help me excel at a SMB game in the style of battle royal.
SMB35 also has silky smooth online play. Image Super Mario Maker 2 online multiplayer but with ZERO lag. Seriously why do some Nintendo games have better online than others?
So far I’ve taken first 3 times. Last night I was locked in a 1v1 with a Japanese player that seemed like it went on forever. Had me sweating but it was an enjoyable, fierce fight. Neither of us giving an inch. I would love for other 2D Super Marios to get this same game’s treatment.
