I did get first in that last race, but you got better placements throughout so you won the Prix @sonichuman
Just also want to say if you’re every in first in MK and the only thing you have are coins, don’t use them immediately in case you get hit. That way you can replenish your coins.
Also if you’re ever in first and you have coin first and then an item that you can hold behind you, don’t use the coin. That’s a buffer for ghost attacks. If you see a redshell coming then you can use the coin and then put the item behind you on reaction.
Some tips for people.
Edit: this above tip goes double for when you have a horn as your secondary. You don’t know how many times I’ve had more horn jacked from me by some bs ass ghost right before a blue shell blows me up.
Also if you realize that your item set up is reversed while in first (I.E. banana/shell/whatever useful item for blocking something coming at you from behind is first and the coin is second) then you may want to consider using the first item right before an item block to try to reverse the order. You’re highly unlikely get 2 coins if you already have one in your possession. A ghost taking your useful item and then leaving you with a coin is a more disadvantageous position. Only time I’d think hard on doing this reroll is if the useful item in front is the horn…that’s a tough choice and it’s pure luck on that front…gonna have to take a guess and trust your instincts.

I didn’t have an answer for that last race unless I was going to be god like with the boomerang which was unlikely. Purbeast was harrassing me so you swooping in was perfect lol.

Also, what do you mean by “use coins”? Do they give you any other benefits besides a bit of a buffer when you get hit?

Coins give a small boost to your speed when you collect them and of course they bring your max speed up (limit 10). Most people who get coins complain about them especially since you get them a lot in first and I’m saying instead of those people complaining they just gotta do what they can with what they have. So if you’re stuck in first and the game decides to give you coins, don’t use them immediately so that if you do get hit you can at least accelerate a tad bit faster and recover a bit of your top speed. Holding on to that coin can be the difference of getting hit and only having 7 vs having 9.
Edit: Ink can be dealt with in a number of ways. If you go onto a boost or use a mushroom you get rid of it, if you dunk into water it goes away, and lastly if you happen to have a pirahna plant it will eat the squid before it inks you. I want to say the Star would also work but I’m not 100% on that.

Tetris 99 is more about clearing likes fast. If you can get doubles somewhat quickly, you’re good to go in Tetris 99.
So I cleaned up, added and expanded a lot of stuff in the OP.

GG’s in Mario Kart last night you all. @Sonichuman is clearly not human. And if that was you rusty holy shit. Thanks for the pointers too they definitely make a lot of sense. I really do wish you had the option to turn specific items off in this game. If you could turn off lightning and blue shell, this game would be much more fun.

He’s one of my friends IRL and he will be on there pretty much every time I’m on. He’s the one who has been setting up the games with myself and 2-4 of his friends too. It was pretty awesome when we had like 7 real people playing last night. I know I could jump into a random 12 person game but it’s just not the same as playing with a lot of people that you “know” even if you don’t REALLY know them. At least you know they aren’t going to dick you over or anything like that. Since it was late my son wasn’t playing but he plays with me often too and he’s only 5, playing with all assists on, so typically he will come close to last lol. But he doesn’t care and has fun.

That WOULD be pretty cool. The lightning is a nasty item especially if you’re in the middle of the pack. Still was a blast though thanks for organizing that!

I never really played this game much. There are some courses I play that I don’t recognize at all really so I’m kind of just getting into this game lol. I’m just not a fan of playing it single player really because the AI is so dumb in this game and then I just never played with randoms online much. So the quarantine has helped put me back on it lol.
Yeah I hear you. It came with my switch, but then I got a bunch of other games I was playing more so it fell by the wayside. I agree with you about the tracks, there were some I was like “huh, I know I’ve run this one before but…” I started doing a few time trials after we played and that helps.

Yeah, it really would be cool to get some extra customization for private races. Like, why not. It would be nice to do one single race without getting lightning bolts constantly, lmao. I don’t even mind blue shells because they have at least SOME kind of counterplay. The counterplay to lightning bolts is just… Pray you’re already using a star, I guess.
