The Nintendo Switch Thread! - Deadly Premonition 2: Blessing in Disguise 7/10 - Paper Mario: The Origami King 7/17

So those who started playing pokemon, which starter did you choose?

I Pick the grass starter.

Yo, I heard one of those starters ends up looking like Goku. Gotta be the grass type.

Eh? Not really.

Starters final Evo’s

Rillaboom is just a monkey with a drum. The fire evo is based on futbol players and the kits they wear while Intellion is pretty much a sleek spy shedding away its previous Evo’s anxiety to become super cool

I was the Typical uncultured pleb that chose the fire starter cuz it looks cool. With the exception of gen 3. Swampert was a god damn boss. The first starter to be meta, and it was cool in a more “I’m chill, but can turn up and fuck shit up if need be” kinda way.

How did water starters repressed this badly?

They peaked at Feraligatr honestly. I like Greninja well enough and it had been the best water starter since Feraligatr. It’s just that Feraligatr is just in a league of its own, imo. So fucking bad ass.

Starters in general have gotten worse with each game.

Feraligatr forever the best water starter.

Imma need ya to put some respect on Swampert’s name.

It depends. There was usually one okay one, one bad one and one really awesome one.

Gen 1 best is arguably Charizard since its one of the most popular Pokémon in the franchise (Imo blastoise shits all over charizard)

Gen 2 best was Feraligatr

Gen 3 best Blaziken (I like Swampert a lot but Kung Fu Chicken)

Gen 4 best was hands down Torterra (though I like Empoleon a lot. I also am extremely biase to loving turtles so much I can’t deny how fucking awesome Torterra is)

Gen 5 best was Samurrott

Gen 6 was easily Greninja

Gen 7 is honestly a tie between Decidueye and Incineroar

Gen 8 is the grass starter final evo. Though it doesn’t have a lot of competition

I didn’t like Swampert till his Mega. Blaziken was too damn godlike for the others starters to compete.

Swollpert bois represent!

Gen 4, 5, 7 and 8 are just bad. 7 may deserve a slight pass, but just barely.

Dang, no wonder no one wants to pick the water starter for Sword/Shield. Thing starts out looking cute AF but adulthood was not kind to that sucker. Thing needs to turn off the fabulous and go to a buffet. I would totally rock the other two.

I personally would put Greninja over Feraligatr because I love his design. Feraligatr is definitely up there.

Oh. Don’t get me wrong. I love Greninja. It’s something as generic as a ninja frog but done in an incredibly creative way.

It’s just Feraligatr is water Godzilla and I’m all about that. Plus I’ve you seen Croconaw’s snaggle tooth? It’s the fucking best. He’s my favorite mid evolution out of any of the starters and one of my favorite Pokémon over all.

Happy cake day btw.

If we are talking strictly design. Can’t really argue that at all. You got it.

@Million-X Sparklite is pretty awesome man. I don’t even know how to explain it though. It feels a lot different than Dead Cells to me and that is my first “rogue” game ever. I bought the Messenger then last night drunk bought Sparklite before I packed up my Switch, and was glad I did. I started with that on my flight to FLL and I played it most of the flight and gave The Messenger like 20 minutes at the end, which is good too.

Then on my next flight to T&C I continued The Messenger but I kept thinking bout Sparklite and after like 20 minutes I put Sparklite back on. I played that for another hour or so until we landed and it’s awesome.

On Switch it definitely has some little framerate issues, but only when a lot of stuff on screen. At the hub it’s like always there too but it’s not unplayable or anything. I’d say it’s very comparable to Link’s Awakening framerate issues.

And don’t get me wrong - The Messenger is pretty badass too. The fucking shop keeper in that game is one of the greatest characters I can remember in recent times. In general the dialog in that game is amazing. It is a bit easy thus far but I’m only like 4 “levels” in on it.

But yeah, I do recommend Sparklite if it at all looks interesting to you. Again, I don’t really know how to even explain the type of game it is since I’ve never played anything like it. I guess it’s like Dead Cells in that rogue sense but maybe since it’s top down view it just “feels” so much different. I definitely don’t feel (yet at least) like you have to grind NEARLY as much as you did in Dead Cells, where things took like THOUSANDS of cells to upgrade when your runs would take like 30 minutes and you’d get 100 cells maybe. This is more like you can get 100 sparks in 10 minutes. It’s just very different but also feels kinda similar.

Beat Luigi’s Mansion 3 today, and it was pretty fun and very charming. Next Level Games really knows how to do their animations and giving characters lots of personality. I never knew I’d like a glob version of Luigi so much. I guess technically it’s the best Luigi Mansion game with everything added to Luigi’s move pool and design of the floors, and bosses although I do like the atmosphere of the first game more. I’ve never been a fan of Dark Moons and this games common ghost design. Maybe a little too childish, I guess? They do have way more personality (at least the blue ones) so I guess that’s alright. As for other complaints,

Very Minor Spoilers
  • Boos seem like a real afterthought. After I captured the first one I completely forgot about them and it’s not like you need to get any of them after that one.

  • B2 and Polter Kitty weren’t as bad as I thought they would be, but they were low points of this game. I think B2 just needs better controls of the duck. Although it’s theme is pretty great

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yERhbFX-6O0
Polter Kitty should only stay in the single floor and not go into lower floors.

  • I’d be nice if money was more important.

  • During bosses the game gives you a little too many hearts, the game isn’t hard so I don’t know why they would make it easier.

  • If I were to play this game again then I would not play with the joycons. It doesn’t feel natural for me. It didn’t help that one of my joycons has a slight drift and it’s not fun to claw with a joycon. Using L and R were better, but I think I’d rather play with a pro controller or something similar.

All in all the game is a good time. The floor designs were great, the bosses were great too. The game really shines with it’s personality.

I’d say pick it up on sale (whenever that happens) unless you really want to play it or you’re a big Luigi’s Mansion fan. While I did enjoy the game quite a bit, it isn’t that long. Not first game short, but still somewhat short. You can finish this game on the weekend. Not a lot of replay value after you finish it.
