Mario and Sonic at the olympic games 2020 announced

Can we get a REAL Mario/Sonic game, one that has nothing to do with the Olympics.

You know an actual adventure with Sonic and Mario as ether rivals/enemies or allies?

You know the rivials/enemies would be a great idea, have the villains team up and try to frame the heroes. Make Mario look bad in Sonic’s eyes and vice versa so later on the game Mario and Sonic has to fight, till they realize they are duped and go after the combined Bowser/Eggman forces.

I never thought of that before…but yeah I’d get a Mario/Sonic team-up game. I always thought it was silly for them to be competing at Olympics anyway…even considering they are kinda some silly characters/worlds in the first place. But yeah—Bowser working with Robotnik… then perhaps at some point in the story they aren’t even cool with each other anymore and there’s conflict between those guys too…maybe the player has to pick one of them to help against the final battle with the other one… or the other thing you see in shows and movies— a bigger common enemy is out there, and the player eventually gets help from both classic villains to help save the day from the new big bad…there’s some interesting story material to be had there.

I got Galak-Z: The Void so I’ve been on that a lot lately. I could see how some people might not like the controls in this; it takes some getting used to, but it’s fun so far to me…as many say it takes a lot of cues from the '80s era anime stuff, in terms of the visual flair. A nice little nostalgia detail— when you pause (and the options show up), it’s like someone paused the VHS tape this “show” is on to adjust the “tracking”… Galak-Z in general is a game I’ve wanted for years, thinking it would be one of the first purchases actually whenever I got around to buying a PS4…so it’s a big deal to have this portable now. There was a previous one on Switch but something about it was a real turn-off for me; I forgot what that even was.

I can totally see Bowser and Eggman working together, it starts amiable at first but Bowser being who he is becomes more demanding, and Eggman although he feels he superior is not foolish enough to take Bowser on directly as Eggman can see Bowser could just with his bare hands rip in half the toughest bot Eggman can make.

Bowser: “old man I want this new airship complete right away”
Eggman: “Oh my King it be another week and some safety testing before the ship is complete”
Bowser: “I want it flight and battle ready by sun down, am I clear”
Eggman: (begrudgingly) “crystal clear my king”

Eggman has way too much ego to be saying stuff like that but he def would play the long game.

No, neither Sega nor Nintendo would let that happen outside of spinoffs like the Olympic games or Smash. It is probably a brand thing.

No, I disagree. We got a Mario Rabbids crossover. A real Sonic and Mario game isn’t out of the question from what Nintendo did int he past.

I can see Eggman doing the “nice nice” thing if he playing the long game and he already drew the ire of Bowser once already.

Smash final at PAX east going on right now

I’d like to expand this to a bigger game with adding in wario/waluigi as their “subordinates.”

As for stand alone sonic. I never get why they focus so much on vertical movement within the series. The physics of the games make jumping from a cold stop to maneuvering mid air so clunky. Just focus on horizontal stages only with momentum jumps and let Tails or knuckles do the vertical stages

Really just take the worlds collide story arc they did with the mega man vs. sonic comic but tweak it so it could be done with Mario vs sonic.

Wouldn’t be that fucking hard.

@sonichuman

Talking about Smash.

Worlds collide arc was pretty solid and fun.

An actual joint platformer venture between mario and sonic would be interesting especially because their platforming styles are so different. I imagine the game being hodge podge of different ideas from the franchises that may not mesh well or parts of the game are just going to be way better than the other. To be honest, I think the only way I think a game between the franchises could work really well and have an epic story between them if it was done as a platformer rpg hybrid…heavily based on M&L/Paper Mario’s playstyle.

Or, you have a Mario and a Sonic Story line, with their own mechanics in play.

I don’t even know how a Mario and Sonic game would play unless they had their own levels because they sure couldn’t share them design wise. I’d buy the game just based on it saving me the step of having to exit one game to start up the other, but yeah…

They can do that but it’s probably not going to feel cohesive…that’s my only concern which is what I said above.

Maybe make it a turn based tactical rgp

How many ties can you do Mario/sonic/olympics. There is so much more you can do, like Segagaga World, except told through 4 perspectives, Japan, USA, Europe, and Brazil, and instead of being told in the Dreamcast Era, it can flash back from the Colecovision Third Party era, all the way through to the Post-Dreamcast third-party years. And you can get Nintendo’s side of the story, and since Panasonic, Atari, SNK and Hudson/NEC, (which became a Konami Company through corporate buyouts) are currentl neutral in the current system wars, maybe they can join in.

“It could be Mario Vs Sonic Vs Bonk vs Terry vs Gex vs Bentley and the Console Wars,” Since that’s a long name, ad it’s conceptually different enough from Segagaga, let’s call it “Mario Vs Sonic: Console Wars” after all they were the stars of the 16 wars and the only 2 that produced consoles after the 16-bit era, Mario and Sonic are like USA and USSR in the Olympics during the cold war, very rarely do they have an event where neither country is represented in the top 10. And it would also have fictionalized versions of Sony and Microsoft as later competitors.

A multi-player Industry Sim/ Risk-like board game, where battles are decided in various Coleco era to post-Dremacast era game snippets from all 6 consoles turned competitive. Maybe beyond that, certain “neutral companies” like Capcom, Taito, Namco, Midway, EA, Activision, etc. can be mercenary characters and lend their licensed game snippets as downloadable extras, so that those companies will get paid if they’re used but not if not on an individual basis.

I agree. There is a so much more you can do with consoles warriors like Mario and Sonic, let alone do the same thing for 6 out of the last 7 olympic license periods. The olympics is limiting Mario and Sonic. This should be more like a Video Olympics, where video games are games in and of themselves and not just simulations of olympic events.

Please don’t bring your bullshit in here.

Sonic Mario in the same stage would take some very challenging level design. Maybe a system where you swap to one or the other as certain part of the level dictate.

By the way since tis primarily a Shoryuken forum and this gets lost in a General Nintendo discussion, would someone in the Nintendo Switch forum like to focus on “Fight Stick essentials for the Wii U and Switch” and see whether someone who wants a fight stick for Xbox One should or should not invest in a XboxX One+Wii U+Switch FIght PCB + fighting joystick. And answer it in THAT forum, not this one.
