Coincidentally enough I was just watching Ninja Assassin. Holy hell, that was gory but pretty entertaining flick. Better than I expected.

Of course the staple Katana and shuriken are going to be up there since they are what make a ninja a ninja. Aside from those:

best ninja weapon? dunno. kunais are good. chains on the other hand, they formed an entire fighting system out of them and most swordsmen had no idea how to fight against that shit. then there were also shuko, which helped them climb up walls and allowed them to do the famous sword catching with bare hands thing. caltrops too. don’t forget smoke bombs. they also had grenades. and I think there were also a sect of ninjas that used poisons in various ways? ex. release poison into the air as soldiers are passing by, they fall and their bodies become paralyzed then you just kill them. all very good
if I had to dedicate my life to one like a ninja tho, I’d have to go with all the poison tactics. caltrops only deter undetermined chasers and need specific laying points. kunais aren’t suitable for fighting armored soldiers imo… unless envenomed (though I don’t think they poisoned kunais) or you can hit an unguarded vital spot. chains are still used today, but so are swords… which aren’t a match for a gun from a distance, unless you have plenty of cover space like in a jungle. poison on the other hand denies an entire area from being traveled. the only people who’ll be able to stand up to that are those who are guarded against it
Hotsuma (from ps2 Shinobi) is the most badass ninja.
Fuuma Kotaro (Basara iteration) is also pretty intimidating, and cool. I think it’s no coincidence since I heard that the person who designed Hotsuma, also designed Fuuma. First time I saw him in a Basara game I almost thought he was Moritsune, the older brother of Hotsuma.
Hibana (from Nightshade, ps2 Shinobi sequel) was a nice kunoichi design, but she talked entirely too much. About random shit, and was on her period the whole game. I think the same people who love Ibuki will like her. But I like her rival, Hisui, more. She’s way more serious, has a severe infatuation with their mentor, and uses an…umbrella.
Poison is so passive. You would be the Kagero of the ninja world. At the very least use venom and have snakes flying out of your vagina!!!
depends on how you use it. it can be pretty direct. for example, if someone knicks you with an envenomed blade or even their fingernails you’re gone. speaking of fingernails, you could hand someone hand-handled food and that could kill them. then there’s also pouring poison down someone’s ear. and the classic kiss of death, though that’s more of a woman’s specialty

Thats what I am saying, direct or not its wimpy. Sure it gets the job done, and all, but nothing can beat decapitating people on horseback after hiding in the snow. That or stabbing a person in the ass while they shit.

Poison alone is too general and I wouldn’t consider it too much a ninja thing. Anyone can pour poison in your ear or poison your food, but only a ninja would shower their enemies with poison drenched kunai. But even then, the poison was just an enhancer; the style points came from the kunai shower. Ill admit though that ninjas have the best setup and execution skills and how they actually integrate poison into their game is what sets them apart.
