The Nina Williams Thread

her st.LK reaches pretty far, if you want to start buffering into boost chain. I realized yesterday that putting Nina on point is a no no, unless you have a good grasp of the fundamentals. Not saying it can’t be done because she does have the stuff a point character has by definition, but fundamentals is key to her point game. I have had pretty good success with her st.HK, its best used at about mid range to a lil bit into long range,confirm it into manual launcher. Also one thing I’m starting to notice is that her special moves are very reactable, many times have I been JABBED out of fucking Skull Splitter and GC. It feels like she is the easiest top character to beat with alot of her stuff being punishable and can be easily reacted to.

I agree with this completely. I am left scratching my head at times because aside from top damage, Nina really doesn’t have anything.

Skull splitter jabs piss me off lol. Standing High Kick into laucher sounds good tho. I catch a lot of people with her standing high kick. Got to learn how to hit confirm that into raw launcher. It’s got great range.

What I like to do with a lot of characters is frustrate my opponent with pokes and get them jumping. I scout and bait it…then I punish them with a good anti air into a knockdown setup.

With nina, her Crouch HP is good, but as someone said before, the damage potential off of it sucks unless it’s a counter hit, I do want to explore her dash mixups after it however.

Nina’s crlk and crouch mk are kind of bad for boost combo confirms tho because they don’t link into themselves. crlk you have to make the confirm off a singlehit then go into launcher. It can be done, just not as easily as other characters.

I guess I will try to practice these things:

  1. Using Skull Splitter to keep opponents from constantly advancing/dash back.

  2. Hit confirming fierce HK into Raw Launcher (LOOOONG Range)

  3. Practicing the timing on her light GC for anti air combos, and CrHP for dash under mixups.

saved a replay of doncheedle doing the throw tag and watched it over and over to see the timing and see his button pushes (this is why i asked someone to put video of it on youtube) and with plinking it is way easy,(if i can do it semi consistantly than others should be able to do it better).
700 to over 900 dmg with paul, three bars though and not optimized combos. more with super gem on paul.

I could hit a jump in/crossups very deep. they have 7 ? frames before they can move or be hit after being released (106 frames for the first part of arm snaps per guide). i was able to trade with ryu ex dp. (maybe timing was off though)should have tried against giefs lariat. that will be next.

probably best for characters with good high/ low game or good ambiguous crossups.

i could charge super with gief and king with ex-charge in time to grab as soon as they are able to be grabbed but i can jump out of it (again, maybe off with the timing). i could not charge super off a normal move in time before they could move, but you could bait them to move. (off topic for nina thread but kings rev arm grab is so easy to throw tag you dont need to plink,just mash tag, and it gives you like an hour to do what ever you want before they get up)

fast characters could easily walk behind and crossup as soon as opponent able to be hit. akuma could walk behind and than demon flip stuff. i dont play akuma.

lili could spin(feisty rabbit?) or her knee(dont remember the name) behind opponent, kind of like corpse hopping and use her dive kick crossup.i dont play lili.

i am sure i missed some stuff though because i only have so much time and patience to practice. let alone play the game. i was just trying some stuff that i thought might work.

How do you open people up with this character? Also what are some good block strings and frame traps?

That cr.Fierce x 2 looks awesome, is it only for meaties or could be used in a punish combo as well??

Why don’t they have a delete function on the forums it would help reduce clutter.

Only way I even tested it was for a meaty. Not sure if you can actually do it on CH or not. The frame data says that it won’t combo into itself, so otherwise, you can only do it as a meaty.

c.HP can only combo into itself as a meaty or on CH.

if u mistime the 2nd input in the throw chain, the other player automatically counter punches you. is that from a tekken game, if so which one(s)? ive never seen it
