The Nina Williams Thread

Yeah I don’t really try to go for any crossups alot. They usually move around and i cross myself up sometimes. But thanks for the advice it definitely helps

I have a question about Nina once ver. 2013 comes out. Its theres
No movement on geyser cannon. My main punish was cr.hp(or cr.mk) xx hk geyser, cr.hp xx hk geyser , cr. Hp xxlp blonde bomb.
Will that combo still work? Or will i have to learn the skull splitter combo? I can do it but not so consistently because of the funky timing and annoying RDPs.

I’m pretty sure the “no movement” only applies to light Geyser Cannon, because of its new anti air properties.

I was actually hoping that it did. It would have given me a reason to learn and get used to that combo.

Learn these combos instead anyway:

  • cr.hp xx hp geyser, cr.hp xx hp skullsplitter, cr.hp xx hp skullsplitter, ivory cutter
  • cr.hp xx hp geyser, mp skullsplitter, cr.hp xx hp skullsplitter, cr.hp xx lp blonde bomb
*After the 2nd skullsplitter you can land Nina her super very very easy, it is annoyingly difficult to land her super reliable i find.
  • cr.hp xx hp geyser, hp skullsplitter, cr.hp xx hp geyser, ivory cutter

They are either more damaging, better setup or both.

I do use cr.hp xx hp geyser, cr.hp geyser when performing a tag cancel…
So cr.hp xx hp geyser, cr.hp geyser j.hk TAG.

For certain teams its better to end that combo with ivory cutter TAG instead of j.hk TAG. Ivory cutter gives your tagged in partner more time to setup whatever attack they want when coming in. If your partner character has a properly angled j.hk or j.hp (like Julia’s j.hk), they even have enough time to neutral jump upon switch and connect that attack while the opponent is still in groundbounce animation from the ivory cutter. So often ivory cutter can allow for a more damaging switch combo.

I usually do ivory cutter at the end tag canceling it seems more damaging for. I get 496 out of with my team but im sure she breaks 500 with other ppl. I’ll try some of thos combos, its about time i use Nina to her full potential.

I know this isn’t the matchup thread but since that one looks inactive I figured i’d throw a question up here instead. I have been having issues with the cammy matchup. Mostly due to walking jab pressure. Usually the opponent does this until they are close enough to throw and then I have to guess when to tech. Other characters have a solid out for this tactic but I’m having issues with nina. The EX geyser kick rarely comes out and I end up getting comboed. I hit up training mode but didn’t come up with much. Standing block and walk backwards kind of works at times but all he needs to do is throw a low attack.

Some people don’t know but Nina has a 3 Frame far lp. You can try to use that as her jabs get slower(as she gets farther away do to le’ pushback) in between. But if its in a sticky situation, then Cross cancel is the only option(But make sure to capitalize on the KD and get on the offensive under exeptional circumstances of course). Sometimes you just gotta take the throw to reset the sitchiashun. Nina doesn’t have too many good answers to people like cammy.

Hope I helped

Thanks. I didn’t realize the standing far lp was that fast. That should be a good tool. Cammy is +3 on block but it might be worth the try. If he’s squeaking in a couple frames of walk I’ll be able to get him for sure. My buddy has gotten damn good at the walk and jab pressure routine. If I’m crouched, there just isnt enough pushback to get distance (crossing fingers for 2013 adjustments). Giving him the throw creates a rinse repeat situation because he knows how to space himself to allow a safe jump in and jump back attack to put me back on the defensive. Anyway. Thanks for the tip.

When i’m getting jab pressured, I try to sneak in a st. LP as well, that way if it lands, you get a free non-boost combo (provided it’s close enough.)

Either that or back dash =P

I hope your joking about the backdash. Nina’s backdash is so slow compared to cammys walkspeed and range on the that jab. Not to mention Nina’s backdash gets you hardly anywhere.

It’s definitely not the best back dash out there, but I use it often and I get by just fine.

Out of cammy’s jabs??? I find that hard to believe. Its fine on your wake up but other than that…

Nina’s backdash moves farther back than many other characters. I find it to be one of the better ones. Try backdashing with Hwoarang and you’ll see why. Another high risk high reward option to escape pressure is to mash out her ex geyser.

Lol i already know about bad backdashes. Heihachis is horrendous.

But EX geyser is VERY high reward. For a reversal anyway.

What kind of gems do you Nina players use with her? She really benefits from power boost gems since she has easy activation through her tekken strings. I have also tried speed gems to take advantage of her ambiguous cross ups.

I use a boost gem that activates after four hit specials 20 percent power (One skull splitter combo)and an ex meter gem(Same startup conditions) i got with the special edition. It gives me 40% more meter gain and ten percent power for either ex geyser or ex roling dash to grab. I ALWAYS use blonde to high kick as a hit confirm. If they block it(While my gems are active) then they eat an ex unblockable taking just under 300. If they dont block it then they take about 350. I love my gems the way they are. But whatever works for you is great. Never thought about speed gems to use her crossups, pretty cool i’ll have try that sometime. Hmu if your psn?

It would seem that a good amount of the nina players are on psn or stopped playing lol. Im on xbl, i recently switched nina to full attack gems. Connect with 5 normal moves which i use her flash kick string. Connect with 10 normal moves, with flash kick string into skull splitter combo i only need 3 more hits until its activated. And connect with 3 special moves. Each of them last about 15-20 seconds, so i have more than enough time to open my opponent up for massive damage, even with some minor scaling.
