The answer to your question is yes. I, for instance, play the mediocre Akari as my point and my main character. Her backup is Hotaru, whose S-tier bullshit makes up for all of Akari’s weaknesses, making it an all-around solid team.
EvilSamurai- Yes certain teams work better than others…without a doubt…like for example Tung +ANYONE that requires meter is great because he gives the person pretty much free meter and Tung slows the game down because you don’t wanna lost half life…which is precisely what I want to do…slow the game down.
Also like Lobelia said its good to have someone that can cover up the shortcomings of the other character…

I just bought Batlle colliseum two days ago and playing it is fun. unfortunately for me competition around here is slim so im fending for myself.
SO far ive caught onto kaede, king lion, haomaru, washizuka as characters id like to put on a team. which ones are good to stick with as a team and which ones should i stray away from?

All of those characters are good, but of those four, Haohmaru and Kaede are the best. Try Shishioh (King Lion), though. He’s fun as hell, and I can teach you bits and pieces. Rush with Silent Storm for starters, and his BnB that the Shishioh champ uses most often is :r: :snkc:, :r: :snka:, :qcb: :snkc:.

Shishioh’s :r::snkc: is ultimately too slow and lacks priority to be a reliable combo starter. Not to mention, it all too often pushes the opponent too far back on hit for the :r::snka: to connect.
His standing and crouching :snkb:'s are faster and have better priority though the only disadvantage they have against :r::snkc: is that they have a little less range.
Interestingly enough though, the :r::snkc: can negate some projectiles if you time it just right with his fist.
