The Next Fist of the North Star/Hokuto no Ken thread

Yeah, that’s exactly what I thought, because you’re not canceling with a jump, you’re installing a jump…

yup that is Jump Install

I couldn’t get it to work by doing it the GG way for Thouther’s Spear and still can’t get it to work with Shin. It wouldn’t surprise me if that bug was really a jump cancel cancel, since you can already do that in the air for Rei or Thouther, but if you can do it with Shin then just disregard what I just said, I suck and can’t do it your way.

It’s not the fact of canceling the jump, nor the method that you’re doing it. What makes it what it is is that you are installing a jump inside another move. In Guilty Gear you install a jump inside of a standing normal attack, so that it’s stored there for when you reach the air. Even though the method in HnK is different, it still follows the same principle. You store a jump inside of a ground attack, so that the game thinks that the attack it’s stored inside is airborne and not grounded. So forget the whole caneling the jump and start thinking about storing, or installing, a jump inside of another move.

It will probably work the method you are trying it, however it would probably require a programable controler, or ultra tight timing.

Thanks for the clarification, I guess I was too focused on how it works instead of why it works.

Actually it’s exactly the same way in GG. You can JI by canceling the startup of your jump there too, see #R Venom JIing his teleport by doing 62369K or Chipp JIing his teleport.

And it is a Jump Cancel Cancel sort of, because you are canceling the startup of your jump (the jump cancel) into a special move and thus canceling the jump from ever happening.

Edit: What I mean is that the JI mechanic really works the same between the two games. The reason it’s a lot different in HnK is mostly a byproduct of how moves are cancelable in this game, and of course the Star taking system being the real reason to use it in HnK as opposed to GG where the main reason is to give extra jumps/dashes. There would be a lot more usage of it in HnK, for example, if AC attacks were cancelable into specials (because then EVERYONE could do Thouther’s glitch easily). As it is, other characters need Boost to JI off the AC launcher, which really hurts its usefulness factor.

All of them are performed by Rui Zai (with a PS2 pad-___-") and directed/edited by Kuo (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=KUO9899998).

Enjoy!

Nice “KENSHIRO ONLY” combos of Raoh.
Actually, I don’t like the way KUO edited the videos, but they sure show off most of the best combos per character. The videos also seem to have badly saturated audio.

It still stays as valuable stuff.

what character(s) would you guys say are the ‘easiest’ to learn/play, or if you prefer, which characters are the ‘hardest’ to play ?

Raoh and Shin are easy as hell.

Rei is easy, but doesn’t deal enough damage at a beginner level. Easy to learn on the fly as long as you know how to TK.

Toki is easy on paper, but requires decent execution.

People think Ken is easy, but he handles very awkwardly to me. He can take stars easily away if he does sei’ei ko boost combos.

For me only:

 1. Juda
 2. Toki
 3. Thouther
 4. Mr. Heart
 5. Jagi
 6. Kenshiro
 7. Raoh
 8. Rei
 9. Mamiya

Well Shin is the only character I focus on so it’s easy for me to tell which other characters I learn the fastest and which are not. Basically I still have no idea how to play Raoh/Rei/Mamiya in real match. I can fool around with Juda/Toki/Thouther even my brain is dead, lol. Jagi/Heart/Ken are difficult but doable. It’s just for me of course… Everyone is different.

I smelled some French HnK CMVs are coming, am I right?

Thats it? I thought I’d heard that HNK received a lot of improvements/fixes before being ported to PS2.

Man it’s hard to make everyone happy, there are already enough criticism from others against those minor changes…

That’s better than nothing. The game is still fun. I don’t think this game was aiming at being at EVO in the first place.

Hokuto no Stephen Chow:

Nope, no CMs from us. At least, not from me.

mine is similar

 1. Juda
 2. Mr. Heart
 3. Kenshiro/Shin
 4. Toki
 5. Souther
 6. Jagi
 7. Raoh
 8. Rei
 9. Mamiya

Juda has decent damage and takes off stars very very easily. Plus his combos are simple, i would say the only hard part is to know when to use his accomplices. Heart-Sama does easy damage and has auto guard/super armor. Kenshiro and Shin have good combos that deal high damage and you don’t need to learn anything specific unless you are going advanced with them like any other character. Toki combos are good but take a bit of time to execute consistently. Souther and Jagi are a bit character specific and they have a little more complicated multi star combos into FKO. Though Souther does have “Raising the Roof” combo. Roah and Rei have crazy combos that take crazy execution and a long time to get down. I practice Rei for hours every day and still have problems doing his combos consistently. Mamiya just doesn’t really have any combos  and is hard to play against other people no matter the level.
