When they originally did the preview for the season in week one or two and they showed her getting yelled at I thought she was getting fired. At the time I was neutral on it, but now I’m glad she didn’t.
There isn’t nearly enough cursing. I’ve worked in many newsrooms (print, not broadcast) and when shit hits the fan — even minor things that go wrong — profanity will follow. This most recent episode helped when Olivia Munn was chewed out.
Why would you worry about the writers? This is Sorkin’s show 100%, just like all his shows are. Staff writers on a Sorkin show are more glorified researchers than anything else. He shares 1 co-writing credit for the entire season, I think he had 3 co-writing credits for the entire run of Studio 60.
This episode reminded me of a column I read shortly after Bin Laden’s death was reported to the world. It talked about how ghoulish it was to see people celebrating the death of a man. As if in that moment, we went back to something less human and more primal. If we are as above them as we like to believe, why celebrate the death?
Anyway, it was too cheerful for my taste. I was also kinda left in tears at the end, too. I remember that day and all it did was remind me of the shit I had to see happening a couple miles away live. You’ll always remember seeing a plane in the tower.
Thank the fuck Christ they cut from the sequence of Will and Jim playing guitar together quickly…that was the most painful moment in the Newsroom to have to watch yet.
just finished episode 6. ooooo we, the exchange between homey and the black guy for santorum was god like. i loved the reaction he got out of him, but dude still had to HOLD DAT SHIT. gonna catch up. two more. love this show
That may have been the funniest episode of the season so far, fashion Jim, trick pants, I’m still waiting for Sloan to put Neil through a window.
This show is so left-leaning it’s becoming painful to watch. But the point where political candidates being asked Nerf soft questions stings because Sorkin is completely spot on. When they showed that CNN clip from last year’s Republican debate I had a fit of laughter. Sadly, I think our candidates will be thrown softballs this year anyway.
Tonight’s episode was great. I was hoping for a season finale it’d have another 20 minutes but whatever. That final scene with the girl from the beginning of the season was a great touch.
