I think it’s the Comic/Games store owners who gassed them OD
Back when I lived in FL B.R.A.D.S owner tried the fuck me over after winning the 5 box tournament(Ran Zombie FTK Turbo. Undefeated cause no one saw it coming and had no counter lol) by literally trying to give me store credit. That would’ve been fine and all but the previous tournaments he held his players won and got boxes. So I called him out and threathened to let UD / pojo know what he was trying to pull and he gave me my boxes and got banned.
Two months later I went to regionals and after I got top 8 he tried to offer me a sponsorship…
Yeah, shit was shady as fuck back in the day. The closest we get to it now is ARG and even they aren’t as absurdly stupid as shit was back in the day. Back then damn near everyone was like Empire Arcadia.
We all rivaled each other but became great friends as well(Cept for brads, fuck them) even had a 5v5 tournament which the winner gets 15 boxes in total from the losing owners.
Oh man tell me about, in some of the comic shops they would use top players to attract the younger crowds. But that shit backfired becuase the young cats wouldnt come due to how to douchey those guys were. There was one local were the owner wasnt biased and treated all the players equally. Does ryan spicer still play? That dude was pretty cool, always wondered what happened to him.
I did hate the bowlin brothers with a passion. I believe kyle and chris were there names.
Ive met alot of some top players since I came back to the game in 2009. Adam Corn, Fili Luna, Billy Brake, Jeff Jones, Austin Kulman, Frazier Smith, Jarel Winston, Chris Bowlin, Simon He, and etc.
Out of all of them, only Chris Bowlin and Adam Corn came off and acted like total dicks. Billy Brake, Jeff Jones, and Fili Luna being the nicest ones. Billy Brake is probably the only player I’ve seen go out of his way to sign cards for players.
I remember after Corn got his first lost in YCS Long Beach against Six Samurai, someone came up to him and asked him to sign his Grandmaster of the Six Samurai. Shit was too funny. And he was accused multiple times of stealing shit from other players too.
Frazier was judging at Philly Regionals and he was pretty cool. He even sat down and judged the last match of the day when said match basically had nothing on the line. Was a pretty cool match too.
Fili was a cool cat, but when that mofo was one of the only players who had crush card, he got accused alot of stacking, he always had cc, morphing jar in his opening hand xD
I’ve played In top 16 SJC Atlanta. I had GB verses his Teledad. He’s a humble dude and gave me some nice Deck Building tips. Also got some recognition from This guy name Pro Winston after beating him in the final Swiss round. He talked all weekend about changing the game and making it more cool
In addition I’ve come across other top players in my prime(2004-2010) but tbh it’s always packed.
But I did see a lot of drama! I remember this kid getting no jumped outside of the venue. Also witnessing Shane Scurry getting arrested. This other dude from NY got caught for switching decks and he got mad and flipped the table over and ended up getting arrested…lol
Man classic times.
The problem I see now is I’m fucking 29 and I don’t feel comfortable being around teens and people in their early 20’s. I’m way past that even though I enjoy the game
Let me put it to you this way. When I was judging regionals last weekend, I would say the average age was 26, and they couldn’t find more than TWO kids for the Dragon Duel for 12 and under (which was free btw) for hours.
Do what you want. You want to play YGO till you’re an old man, go for it. I plan to.
Never. Ever. Bring back rulers because it enables degenerate things that Komoney didn’t intend. The ability to infinite variants of one deck is stupid af.
Currently idk how anybody in their teens can afford this game. You need real money to play this game now.
The card game is actually pretty cheap as long as you avoid all the meta cards. I find it amazing how someone is willing to pay someone 100 bucks for one card when chances are said card becomes illegal to use by the next format or two.
BTW I got my first invite to regionals but I’m not sure if I should go or not. Tips?
Redid my pepe extra deck. For when BOSH comes out.
2 Tellarknight Ptolameaus
2 Cyber Dragon Nova
2 Cyber Dragon Infinity
2 Ignister Prominence
1 Trapeze Magician
1 Majester Paladin
1 Dinoster Powerful, the Mighty Dracoslayer
1 Castel
1 Diamond Dire Wolf
1 Alchemic Magician (wavering eyes and clash of the dracorivals…)
1 King of the Feral Imps
(I’m thinking about using Traptrix Rafflesia, Or cutting 1 of each nova, ptolameaus, and infinity, to add Cowboy, Ark, and Samurai)
Playing the CDI combo even once is annoying. Playing it twice will get you a rep that makes people not want to play you. Makes it even worse when you’re flowcharting with PePe on top of that.
