The New Yu-Gi-Oh Thread: Construct Joins Stratos in the Halfway House

Always said Yu Gi Oh was crap. Tried getting into it twice when I was younger. Even bought 2 decks. Find myself watching it on Netflix years later, currently on Yugi vs Pegasus.

I went to a local today and ended up arguing with this dude for like 20 minutes over him complaining of being unable to play his upstarts with anti-spell on the field so we had to call a judge over to tell him he was wrong the whole time.

Dude gets super pissy when I call him out on all the sneaky shit he tries to do (drawing the turn after he plays reckless greed, trying to attack when he plays soul charge, etc.) and it gets to a point where I just say fuck going easy and loop his ass. He takes his loss by pushing over the table and everyone’s cards go flying (there were two other duels going on along with ours).

If the scene’s gotten this bad I think I need to stop participating foreal.

The overall scene isn’t that bad. You’ll find players like that in everything. In every TCG, in every FG, in everything. It’s always the exception to the rule.

Personally if someone acted up that bad at my local I would’ve had them immediately booted from the store.

He better be banned from the store. I would have to be held back for 1hr straight if someone did that shit to my cards.

Nah there are alot of cool people in the scene. A few even helped me get back up to speed on a lot of the recent shit. It’s just the ones that take this shit way too seriously that puts me off at times. The ones who won’t be satisfied until they piss off the wrong person and get beaten within a inch of their life. Hell one of the guys had to be held back by like 4 others because my opponent stepped on his mint condition Dante.

Yeah, no, he’s an exception and should be immediately banned from the store. I know the feeling that you’re getting but you come to find it really is a small minority. A minority you’ll find everywhere.

Dude flipped the table. If it was FGC, he would wait until he was on Twitter and cuss you out.

If it were LoL he’d tell you to catch cancer.

If it were blizzard games, he’d call you a noob, or boon cause saying the word backwards is cool.

If it were pokemon, he’d call you a fag.

If it were CoD, he’d just cry.

Should I invest Dragons of Legend 2?

DoL2 isn’t that great honestly. Best stuff out of there really is Lord of Red.

Pegasus has the best voice actor ever

Doesnt Toon Kingdom come in DoL2? I say if you can pick that up for cheap, I would pick them up.

Yeah all the Toon Stuff but Toons are still Toons. If you want to build them though then DoL2 is great.

Sibyl core is in this set.

Actually Pot of Taboos is two sets from now, not in DoL2.

I did forget the Sibyls but they aren’t worth remembering that much at the moment.

Thanks a lot ARG assholes…

In all their infinite wisdom they have created their own banlist for their tournies, which I all but expected after they started that “Newgioh” crap. Regardless of any potential quality of the list, they just guaranteed the complete split of the community. Now if their list isn’t close to ARG’s list, there’s going to be a divide. There will be a ton more people playing exclusively at ARG events if they feel that list is better and vice versa. Hell, it’ll probably cause problems at local events too. You’ll have people demanding to play the ARG lists or they’ll sit out events. And if Konami by some absurd coincidence, matches their list, all it does is make ARG the actual controller of the game.

For perspective, here’s the list they’ve done and I’ll even leave my thoughts.

[details=Spoiler]Banned:
Djinn Releaser of Rituals - I think no one would complain about this and I highly expect this to be banned on Konami’s list as well.

Fusion Gate - Done to avoid the Blaze Fenix FTK…which is fine…except they didn’t remove Divine Wind from restriction in return which is the entire reason people hated the Blaze Fenix crap. Blaze Fenix got Divine Wind hit, and then they get rid of another card for the FTK and proceed not to bring Divine Wind back when it causes no other FTKs (Fusion Gate causes multiple hence the hit over Fenix himself).

Lavalval Chain - I mean…what? Yes, it sets up strong plays but that’s all it does. Provide an extra Foolish Burial at the cost of multiple monsters and usually a turn. There were strong setups yes…but you just banned the biggest reason why Chain was hated, freaking Djinn. Their reasoning was it enabling things in Oni FTK, Infernities, and the Djinn Lock. Yet absolutely no one uses the Oni FTK, Infernites were already nerfed into oblivion and you JUST BANNED THE DJINN.

Nekroz of Trishula - Eh, whatever. I didn’t think a ban was necessary but meh. Means Gungnir would be the go to Boss I imagine.

Royal Magical Library - Preemptive Hit on Chicken Race. Fine with that.

Vanity’s Emptiness - I honestly don’t think this is necessary. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t be sad to see Vanity’s go in the slightest but it hasn’t been nearly as ridiculous at 1. It’s a strong card but it’s a lot less of a pain at 1 since it’s easier to remove. The real anger came from the opponent flipping this, then destroying it on their turn while they go off again and then they flip another. At 1, it’s a strong card only mildly reminiscent of Oppression but nowhere near as, excuse the pun, oppressive. But again, I wouldn’t be sad to see it go.

Restricted to 1:

Cir, Malbrance of the Burning Abyss - Typical BA hit that most people would guess. Fine with it.

El Shaddoll Construct
El-Shaddoll Fusion - I’ll do these two together, I don’t agree with this. Or what I should say is that I don’t agree with both the hits at once. Hitting Contruct, fine, I’d call it a preemptive hit to deal with Clownblade Shaddolls being possible. Or just limited ESF to curb the potential burst OTKs and consistency. Both seems very overkill. Nephe-Shaddoll is terrible and I don’t see anyone playing Poly’s to make up for this, so I’d consider Shaddolls dead with both these hits (at least until Clownblade).

Elemental Hero Bubbleman
Elemental Hero Stratos - I’ll also do these two together. People have been whining for Stratos to come back forever. Obviously he can’t come back with HEROs taking no hits, that’d be absurd. So they’re just hitting Bubbleman. Eh.

Instant Fusion - I’m very outspoken on this subject. Obviously a preemptive hit for Noden/Norden but…I believe Norden has to be the one hit over this card. It’s the age old “Hit the Enabler, or hit what’s being Enabled”. Instant Fusion is very murky because it enables two cards. Thousand Eyes Restrict, and Norden. The thing is, both those cards are relatively busted as it is. They aren’t as broken without IF. But IF isn’t a problem without those two cards. In this case it’s a little less murky as I could see people running multiple IF with only one Noden whereas vice versa would be a bit more inconsistent. But I believe IF holds too much weight and help in other decks. I’d rather Noden be banned entirely. Also another reason for this variation of the hit may be because they don’t want to step on Konami’s toes TOO much. Can’t risk hurting product sales.

Mistake - Ugh, another hit I’m no fan of. They site the hit because of it being a floodgate. And yet…Lose 1 Turn exists and got no hit. That’s hypocritical. Lose 1 Turn isn’t as strong against the few decks Mistake hits…but L1T is effective against a larger variety of decks. You can’t hit one because it’s a floodgate and not hit the other.

Nekroz of Unicore - Another hit, I’m not a fan of this just because they already hit Trishula and Djinn and Lavaval Chain. Unicore would be fine at 2. You already banned a bunch of the reasons Unicore is a pain in the ass. I don’t even know if Nekroz is a deck anymore with 0 Trish and 1 Unicore. I don’t think Gungnir will be nearly as effective.

Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity - Trying to help Wind-Ups out…whatever.

Restricted to 2:
Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss - Another BA hit, again, whatever. They can live with 2 Dante.

Dragon Ravine - Ironically the safe type of unrestrict people always bitch at Konami for. Bring the damn thing to 3, Red-Eyes aren’t going to rule the world.

Inzektor Hornet - Inzektors need a LOT more than 2 Hornet to be relevant.

Rescue Rabbit - Again…woo? Evilswarms aren’t doing anything and I don’t see Dino Rabbit making a comeback. Whatever.

Summoner’s Art - Halfassed hit on Qliphorts because of Wavering Eyes. All it does is hurt other decks more.

Torrential Tribute - Fine with this, make people respect TT more.

Wind-Up Magician - Whatever, Wind Ups still won’t do crap.

No Longer Restricted:
Chaos Sorcerer
Dark Hole
Glow-up Bulb
Sacred Sword of Seven Stars[/details]

The biggest problem with this list other than the community divide is that it seems like every hit they made was in a complete vacuum of the other hits. They hit Lavalval Chain and site Djinn as a reason…except they ban Djinn the same list. They ban Fusion Gate, and then don’t bring Divine Wind back in response. They hit all the current top decks, and Tellars/RBs go untouched when they’re already managing strong tops this format. I’m just…extremely annoyed right now.

The fuck can you disagree if I basically said I thought it was shit, and now I like it?

Anything turn based seems extremely fucked up when they start banning things. Sometimes it’s justified, most times its like wtf.

Pegasus > Everyone after him.

The unbannings and limiting are far more interesting than Konamis list but I don’t do that house rules stuff. If konami didn’t make the list I want no part of it. Most people feel the same I’m sure.

Lots of useless bans you got rid of denjn why fuck with it some more?

And they’ve freed stratos and not touch shadow mist?

Like I said, this can only end bad.

I remember suggesting this but then being told that the community split will happen. I highly doubt anyone will be able to create a competent banlist for this game because Konami themselves don’t know how to make not broken cards. Boss monsters are too easy to summon. Decks can swarm the field and still be plus in their hands. Decks can pop an entire field before you could even do anything. Decks that just straight up stop you from playing the game. Its just the nature of the game and creating a new ban list won’t do much to stop this. Konami themselves got too wrapped up in the anime cheats, it will never translate into a balanced game, might as well embrace it and play in the formats that konami lays out for us.

Community banlists are going to have a whole bunch of biases that are going to be obvious. The community shouldn’t have too much of a say in a banlist because this will not only cause a community divide but community infighting. I want to know who the hell is gonna play in this format.
