Thanks a lot ARG assholesâŚ
In all their infinite wisdom they have created their own banlist for their tournies, which I all but expected after they started that âNewgiohâ crap. Regardless of any potential quality of the list, they just guaranteed the complete split of the community. Now if their list isnât close to ARGâs list, thereâs going to be a divide. There will be a ton more people playing exclusively at ARG events if they feel that list is better and vice versa. Hell, itâll probably cause problems at local events too. Youâll have people demanding to play the ARG lists or theyâll sit out events. And if Konami by some absurd coincidence, matches their list, all it does is make ARG the actual controller of the game.
For perspective, hereâs the list theyâve done and Iâll even leave my thoughts.
[details=Spoiler]Banned:
Djinn Releaser of Rituals - I think no one would complain about this and I highly expect this to be banned on Konamiâs list as well.
Fusion Gate - Done to avoid the Blaze Fenix FTKâŚwhich is fineâŚexcept they didnât remove Divine Wind from restriction in return which is the entire reason people hated the Blaze Fenix crap. Blaze Fenix got Divine Wind hit, and then they get rid of another card for the FTK and proceed not to bring Divine Wind back when it causes no other FTKs (Fusion Gate causes multiple hence the hit over Fenix himself).
Lavalval Chain - I meanâŚwhat? Yes, it sets up strong plays but thatâs all it does. Provide an extra Foolish Burial at the cost of multiple monsters and usually a turn. There were strong setups yesâŚbut you just banned the biggest reason why Chain was hated, freaking Djinn. Their reasoning was it enabling things in Oni FTK, Infernities, and the Djinn Lock. Yet absolutely no one uses the Oni FTK, Infernites were already nerfed into oblivion and you JUST BANNED THE DJINN.
Nekroz of Trishula - Eh, whatever. I didnât think a ban was necessary but meh. Means Gungnir would be the go to Boss I imagine.
Royal Magical Library - Preemptive Hit on Chicken Race. Fine with that.
Vanityâs Emptiness - I honestly donât think this is necessary. Donât get me wrong, I wouldnât be sad to see Vanityâs go in the slightest but it hasnât been nearly as ridiculous at 1. Itâs a strong card but itâs a lot less of a pain at 1 since itâs easier to remove. The real anger came from the opponent flipping this, then destroying it on their turn while they go off again and then they flip another. At 1, itâs a strong card only mildly reminiscent of Oppression but nowhere near as, excuse the pun, oppressive. But again, I wouldnât be sad to see it go.
Restricted to 1:
Cir, Malbrance of the Burning Abyss - Typical BA hit that most people would guess. Fine with it.
El Shaddoll Construct
El-Shaddoll Fusion - Iâll do these two together, I donât agree with this. Or what I should say is that I donât agree with both the hits at once. Hitting Contruct, fine, Iâd call it a preemptive hit to deal with Clownblade Shaddolls being possible. Or just limited ESF to curb the potential burst OTKs and consistency. Both seems very overkill. Nephe-Shaddoll is terrible and I donât see anyone playing Polyâs to make up for this, so Iâd consider Shaddolls dead with both these hits (at least until Clownblade).
Elemental Hero Bubbleman
Elemental Hero Stratos - Iâll also do these two together. People have been whining for Stratos to come back forever. Obviously he canât come back with HEROs taking no hits, thatâd be absurd. So theyâre just hitting Bubbleman. Eh.
Instant Fusion - Iâm very outspoken on this subject. Obviously a preemptive hit for Noden/Norden butâŚI believe Norden has to be the one hit over this card. Itâs the age old âHit the Enabler, or hit whatâs being Enabledâ. Instant Fusion is very murky because it enables two cards. Thousand Eyes Restrict, and Norden. The thing is, both those cards are relatively busted as it is. They arenât as broken without IF. But IF isnât a problem without those two cards. In this case itâs a little less murky as I could see people running multiple IF with only one Noden whereas vice versa would be a bit more inconsistent. But I believe IF holds too much weight and help in other decks. Iâd rather Noden be banned entirely. Also another reason for this variation of the hit may be because they donât want to step on Konamiâs toes TOO much. Canât risk hurting product sales.
Mistake - Ugh, another hit Iâm no fan of. They site the hit because of it being a floodgate. And yetâŚLose 1 Turn exists and got no hit. Thatâs hypocritical. Lose 1 Turn isnât as strong against the few decks Mistake hitsâŚbut L1T is effective against a larger variety of decks. You canât hit one because itâs a floodgate and not hit the other.
Nekroz of Unicore - Another hit, Iâm not a fan of this just because they already hit Trishula and Djinn and Lavaval Chain. Unicore would be fine at 2. You already banned a bunch of the reasons Unicore is a pain in the ass. I donât even know if Nekroz is a deck anymore with 0 Trish and 1 Unicore. I donât think Gungnir will be nearly as effective.
Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity - Trying to help Wind-Ups outâŚwhatever.
Restricted to 2:
Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss - Another BA hit, again, whatever. They can live with 2 Dante.
Dragon Ravine - Ironically the safe type of unrestrict people always bitch at Konami for. Bring the damn thing to 3, Red-Eyes arenât going to rule the world.
Inzektor Hornet - Inzektors need a LOT more than 2 Hornet to be relevant.
Rescue Rabbit - AgainâŚwoo? Evilswarms arenât doing anything and I donât see Dino Rabbit making a comeback. Whatever.
Summonerâs Art - Halfassed hit on Qliphorts because of Wavering Eyes. All it does is hurt other decks more.
Torrential Tribute - Fine with this, make people respect TT more.
Wind-Up Magician - Whatever, Wind Ups still wonât do crap.
No Longer Restricted:
Chaos Sorcerer
Dark Hole
Glow-up Bulb
Sacred Sword of Seven Stars[/details]
The biggest problem with this list other than the community divide is that it seems like every hit they made was in a complete vacuum of the other hits. They hit Lavalval Chain and site Djinn as a reasonâŚexcept they ban Djinn the same list. They ban Fusion Gate, and then donât bring Divine Wind back in response. They hit all the current top decks, and Tellars/RBs go untouched when theyâre already managing strong tops this format. Iâm justâŚextremely annoyed right now.
