Man, I haven’t played in a few years…picked up the Kaiba Starter Deck Reloaded for nostalgia. But then I remembered that I still have a deck to finish.
I gave up on the game when Zexal arrived and introduced Xyz Monsters. It was the last straw up until today. I miss this game and my buddies keep pressuring me to get back to playing. At the very least I wanna keep working on my deck.
Well for those who keep complaining about the speed of the game, it’s a slower format right now. +1 Fire Fists seem to be all the rage. Cyber Dragon Structure just came out this weekend and that’s a nice one.
But if you’re tired of new summons, this probably not the time to come back when a new anime is around a corner and thus most likely another new type of monster and definitely a new summon.
Oh, you talking about that Arc Five shit? Durr I’m still stuck in the 5D’s era
Here is my deck right now. I’m pretty sure it’s non-competitive ass-cheeks because I haven’t even tested it yet and haven’t been following the metagame at all.
Also this was cobbled together from two separate decks I had (Machines are cool, Dragons are cool, why not combine both?)
Monsters: 20
Jinzo (x2)
Cyber Dragon (x3)
UFO Turle (x3)
Nitro Synchron (x2)
Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6
Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8
Magna Drago
Masked Dragon (x3)
Delta Flyer
Kaiser Glider
Exploder Dragon
Twin-Headed Behemoth
Well to be particularly blunt, that deck wouldn’t be very good even in the older metas, let alone now.
If you want to get back into things, just buy a few Cyber Dragon structures, cut some dead weight, get some Constellar Pleiades and Volcasaurus/Gaia Dragon and go wild.
You’ve got a point; might as well start fresh with a new deck if I want to get back in the circuit, right? So um, where to look? I have not competed in tournaments in years. What’s all the new crap looking like? The game has changed SO MUCH. I’m still in the old-school mindset. I’m scared…
Well there’s a lot to take in really. Like I said, it’s a slower meta right now so it’s a big easier to take in.
Like I said, the best thing you can do is build a deck and jump in. What I suggested with the Structures should do well enough to get you back in the swing of things and you can possibly make it a bit more towards a Fusion build to use a mechanic you’re familiar with…plus Volcasaurus/Gaia Dragon are a bit pricey.
The main thing to take note of now is that Ban Lists now come every 3 months rather than every 6. So be wary.
Also, sit on Dueling Network and spectate some matches, ask questions whenever needed.
Yeah people who say that forget that the Good Ole Days were pretty much as broken as these days. Less summoning, but more “LOL I’ll drop Envoy of the End and Yata, I win”.
At the very least, Konami’s really been busting out Legacy Support so if there’s an archetype you liked back in the day, they got support…unless it was Guardians. Guardians never happened.
Shit like C.E.D., Yata, Thousand-Eyes Restrict, Trinity…
Those will never leave the list. EVER.
Oh hey, a Blue-Eyes Structure! Didn’t catch that one…I made a couple of Blue-Eyes decks BACK IN THE DAY…I ran Blue-Eyes Demise before Demise was cool…my deck sucked monkey balls but blowing up the field with Demise then Dragon’s Mirroring into BEUD was 2cool.
Well it is starting to get a little ridiculous at this point. Synchros were fine other than the insane power of certain generics (Brionac, Goyo, DSF, Trishula). The problem with Xyz is that it’s starting to homogenize effects on monsters a slight bit and it messes with a lot of game mechanics and makes for odd rulings that people still struggle with.
Not to mention Konami loves going out of their way to hurt the previous in vogue summon in order to make room for the next one. Synchs coming out? See ya ARA. Xyz coming out? The big bad Generic Synchs I mentioned all finally get popped, many a top Synch deck get hit as well.
Wouldn’t be surprised that after PRIO (the last set before the Arc-V Era) we see SHARK get Limited, Excite Knight get banned, Big Eye potentially banned and Draccosack limited.
