Talking about DLC should be a bannable offense, now who wants to argue about why parrying should have been in SFIV?
Wow…well then. Props on the vid. It was actually very insightful and well thought out. But we’ve been going down that rabbit-hole and nobody discussed it so we focused on other stuff. Anyway, I can comprehend and actually agree with some f the stuff you’re saying. I can see the “innovation” Capcom may be responsible for. But there’s been cons that come along with that.
But what’s even more absurd is that you and others think that we should be concerned with the developmental costs stemming from assets on this project. This is a product. They want us to buy their product. Charging us for on disc stuff may be the new practice but doesn’t make it right. Assets. We had 54 “assets” in MvC2. On disc. You know what we used to pay for them? Time. Time was the currency. Having stuff already on disc and witholding it form people until they pay for it is like me having a lemonade stand. You see the damn pitcher of lemonade already made. I take the ice out of the lemonade and then pour you a glass. I tell you that if you want the ice that was already in the solution that you have to pay more. (This is a good analogy if you forget the fact that the beverage would still probably be cold but I’m trying to make a point here.) So in essence I guess what I’m trying to say is, as a consumer I really shouldn’t have to give a single fuck about the cost of materials used. All I should have to do is buy this product and the contents ON IT. Furthermore, when developing this product you know the base cost it will retail for. This is the price that I should have to pay for the entirety of the product. Extras are just that. Extras. But the ice was already in the lemonade bro. This is that rabbit-hole we’re going down right now.
EDIT: I also understand that pre-production they probably determined and alotted a set amount of “assets”. But when you put extras on the disc, shouldn’t be my problem. That’s like you giving me someone else’s order at the window. And it has a fuckton more shit than just the burger I ordered. Your mistake not mine. Fuck you. Drives off.
Really stuck it to 'em.
Thanks for all the bday wishes guys Closer to 40 than 30 now…
FLyMike: LOL, I almost fell off the couch with the baby when I read that shit about Gandalf, lololol
ShinBlade: Some KOF stuff back in the day was better than SF games…Alpha 1 is terrible, but it’s fun until you learn how “bad” Guy and Ken and to an extent Sodom are…The games I liked were 98, 99, 02, and 03…but only played them casually…the others were BROKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKEN bad…00 gets a lot of hate too, lol…Mexicans at arcade here love 97 for some reason…but I do respect the kof stuff since it is where sf would have went anyways (original guys)
The only counter argument I have against what you just posted Mike, is that while MvC2 had 52 assets on disk, we had all paid for those assets before. SO MANY of those sprites were just ripped from other games, the only game that really gave us a lot of new stuff was CvS with all the great sprites they made for the SNK characters. Then we pay for CvS2 with some more sprites but still many of the ones from CvS1.
I will credit Namco for always making shiny new models for each tekken game, but what they mostly reuse, are the animations. But they’ve been in the 3D game for so long that I’m sure they’ve streamlined the process of modelling to perfection.
In the end it’s hard to know exactly why things are being done the way they are unless we see a fully transparent itemized list of costs in making the game vs. profit made from the game/dlc.
Game Cost vs. Profit: New Age of Economic Distress
And Woot, parrying should have been in IV because I want to parry peoples AAs (Bisons RH comes to mind) then hit them with burning kicks.
ah well it seems i getting better, still having some issues. appreciate all of you that threw me the get well soons. hopefully i will recover 100% from this bad luck streak. been the worst weeks ive had ever. i havnt played any games since this has happened so i got alot of catching up todo. hope to get back in the loop asap
I actually agree with most of this.
Don’t forget, the $20 Capcom is charging they aren’t getting all of it. ROYALTIES via NAMCO.
This is a tough web to weave so again, still don’t see the problem here…
I agree with Shawn and Mike on the SfxT stuff.
But I do think characters should never be DLC. I will buy DLC for different stuff in fighting games but characters are the tools to play the game, literally. The question of production cost is a valid one, but not one that should be placed on the shoulders of consumers by making 12 characters DLC (I’m only interested in Elena but I have to buy a pack of 12 to play with 1 character. I understand the business situation but that’s still silly). Make less characters or something.
And happy b day old man Wilson
Oh my god come on Norfolk State please win
I don’t even want new characters. I don’t like having a shit-ton of characters in a game.
If parrying were in SFIV it would be soooo hard to get damage if both players were solid. If you watched me play 3rd strike over the course of 3 hours you could probably count the number of times I block or get hit by a jump in on one hand.
YES, please let Florida’s path be easier now because of this ; )
Does anyone still play Soul Calibur V?
It’s on sale for $30 today and tomorrow only at Toys R US.
Wow dude… Seriously? You just had to go and be like that? Way to be mature man. I don’t agree with your opinion, so automatically I’m an ignorant moron who doesn’t know how shit works.
I really shouldn’t even give you the time of day here to type this shit out, but since you apparently don’t get it yourself because you’re either incredibly dense, or just a Capcom sheep, but I’ll type it out for you.
Like Mike said, I give NO shit for how long it takes Capcom to develop or the time and money it takes. That is NOT a customer concern. PERIOD. It’s not our responsibility to worry about how they delegate their time and resources. All we need to worry about is whether or not their product is worth our money. SFxT ain’t worth my fucking money dude. ESPECIALLY over 80 fucking dollars for a complete roster. God fuck forbid if I want costumes on top of that. And I get it man, $60 isn’t as much of a profit as it used to be. I get it. But something needs to change. Because this shit is obviously not working. If you’re going to put a price tag for $60 then charge us $60 for a complete product and leave it at that. I don’t want to expect a complete product for $60, and then be surprised that it’s not everything it should be. If they want the game to cost $80, then I think they should charge $80 outright. I’d be more willing to do it if they were honest about it than this underhanded marketing bullshit they do now. That’s the main reason I’m not willing to give them more money. Is that I don’t want to be lied to my fucking face about the reasons. If the game company needs more money and has to upcharge, then they should just fucking do it and be honest about it. Maybe it’s not realistic because casual gamers will be turned off by the tag, but still. Something needs to change.
Sure SFxT has a lot of characters on release, sure it might be fun, etc. But the point here is that they are purposefully holding out content on us to make a profit. They locked shit we already fucking have so that they can later charge us for it. Read Mike’s lemonade example. Perfect analogy. This shit is NOT right. Period. And if you’re gonna start the shit about how I’m not a game developer and I don’t know how it works, then you’re just as ignorant as you claim that I am. Because I’m not so fucking naive as to think that Capcom has legitimate reasons to charge us for those characters. They DON’T. Period. They’re fucking FINISHED. They have BEEN done. There’s no arguing that. Any idiot can see that. There’s no excuse. They’re charging us for shit that’s already been done. At this point we aren’t fucking paying for the work they put into it. We paid for that when(if) we bought the game. At this point they’re just price gouging. And if you think otherwise, I’m sorry man, but you’re just delusional.
Let your hard on for Capcom settle down a bit and look at it for what it is. If the statements Capcom has made several times about this haven’t convinced you then nothing will. They’re throwing out excuses that other games and companies have had no problem with. Blazblue and Mortal Kombat for fuck sake. Which I can guarantee you do not have or make anywhere near the money Capcom has at this point. Neither of them had trouble with DLC characters or 2v2 online play. Capcom is just outright lying to you about their reasons. THAT’S what I hate about them. I’m not criticizing anyone for needing more money for their product, I get that. I’m criticizing the way they go about it and how dishonest they are about it.
Honestly man, everyone around here talks about how cool and chill you were, but I’m not seeing it. Resulting to insults to argue with, shit is just petty.
If you don’t agree with my opinion on this matter, then just fucking drop it. Like you said, you aren’t convincing me to see it your way, so sitting there baiting out an argument like you did was completely pointless. Post whatever the fuck you want about this afterwards, I’m done with it. I’ve said my 2 cents, you’ve said yours. I find your opinion and argument incredibly blind and ignorant just as you see mine. So I’m content agreeing to disagree. I just don’t appreciate people who stir up shit just for the sake of it. And if you think my last post was intended for that when I said I wasn’t buying SFxT, it wasn’t. I was just stating my opinion on the newfound info. That’s all.
Now to deal with the incoming barrage of shit I’m probably going to get for arguing with the guy several people here adore.
Hold up, the characters are already on the disc?
Grimstar: Everyone has their own opinions…Shawn conveys things a little different but in no way do I think he’s trying to belittle you…he’s one of the coolest people I’ve ever met and he’s passionate about games and definitely has strong opinions on the industry.
Gamers are weaned to “expect” a lot of stuff these days and even if this is just to “whet” a gamer’s appetite, I just think regardless of what is going on gamers paid more back in the day for games (way more) and even if a game costs $100 now it is still cheaper than it was adjusted for inflation…many games in Japan were $90-120 back THEN.
Same when people EXPECT arcade games to be 25cents from 1984…like the profit is even remotely close…but if you want it to be complete, you have every right to demand that…just trying to get you to see the other side…it’s never black and white…
Oddly enough I see the same complaint ALOT when people purchase computers,
“What do you mean I have to pay extra for Microsoft office, it’s already on the machine!”
Yarr Harr Fiddlety dee.
Yep, like I said, I completely understand their need and want for more money. I just don’t want to be LIED to about it. That’s my issue. There’s no decent reason for them to lie to us about it. That’s why so many Capcom haters call them “evil” and shit, is because they’re just shady like that. As I said, if they would just come out and say it “We’re charging $80 for SFxT because we’re going under, our profits are low, we need fans help to bring us back up.” I would be SO much more willing to do that. But this cheating the system shit, charging because they know people will buy it… It’s just dishonest and wrong. And insulting to fans.
But I understand that charging more up front would turn off a lot of casual consumers who would consider just picking it up in a game store on a whim. So it’s not entirely realistic… But whatever. I don’t work for Capcom, so it’s not my job to decide how they deal with it.
@ Billy Grimm: Shawn is cool, chill, and an overall very intelligent person. I just think that he can identify with Capcom’s side of things, given that he himself is doing indie game stuff. He may deny this, but I think this has a good hand in alot of his arguments. It also makes them more convincing since he knows what he’s talking about. Too bad we don’t give a fuck about that stuff, tbh.
Lol, I wanna play GG1 one day for laffles. Who do you use in AC?
Also, I don’t actually mean that Raven’s garbage now. Anyone “can” win in T6, it’s just that you don’t see much Raven at all, and when you do it’s underwhelming. Just guys who know combos and setups, but no defense and not solid. He WAS top tier in 5.0 and now this stuff. You should try getting back into Tekken again if you have the interest or time. And yea Nina was so cheap in 5.0.
Lies.
Cody is one of the best people to learn games with. Because he actually “plays” whatever he’s playing and he will tell you tons of shit, even about how to punish everything he’s doing with his character. We played a bit in his room at FR, but this was after I was still mad about the tourney and that stream incident. Still, there’s a noticeable difference after you learn how to punish Natsu’s moves, strings, avoid certain set-ups, and what options she has. Bad thing is that Cody plays with a brain and mixes shit up. When you have people that will abuse broken shit all day, all that stuff damn near goes out of the window. You saw this at FR lol.
And APat is overpowered, but fair, because you gotta be able to execute with him to get the really grimey shit. And as far as punishes go, yea APat is so good. Both of those characters have some godlike moves. Other characters worry about getting CHs and combos off. These 2 douches can devastate you with single moves. But I still rather fight APat over Pyrrha/Lex/NM/Yoshi. Fuck SCV again until patch.
You should maybe wear that outfit to MWC and anyone who doesn’t pay venue…well…you know what to say.
Happy Day of Birth also.
Haha you know what? I thought about this when I made post and was trying to think of another IP or franchise pre-DLC that was fresh and gave us “bang for buck” and couldn’t. So I was just hoping no one would call me out on that lol.
The best thing about MvC3 is that Morrigan finally got a new sprite.
Asshole.
