The New Tennessee Thread: Our Infractions bring all the mods to the yard!

Yeah, I am surprised at how many people bought this. It’s just funny that people are being held back from playing the game because “not enough people are going to play it”, which is stupid. Maybe if Justin Wong, Wolfkrone and Daigo were like " Hey, you guys will do anything we do right? Play KOF!! " It would probably have done much better. I mean honestly, how many front page articles do we need for who Daigo is going to play in AE? Most ‘news’ articles on fighting game sites are like " NEW INTERVIEW: DAIGO DOESN’T LIKE CHEESE ON SANDWICHES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! HIT THE JUMP FOR THE FULL STORY. "

Getting slightly off topic, I feel like 90% of the people that watch streams, are regulars on IPW, eventhubs are just people that have never even thought about going to a tournament. I can’t stand going to small tournaments like midnight releases and seeing people with CUSTOM MADE ARCADE STICKS that were at least $200, play hours and hours online, know all of the stupid memes, top players, streams, websites, forums… They participate in every way you can in the fighting game community EXCEPT actually going to tournaments! So lame… People are like scared of in-person competition, I guess.

No Shinblade I won’t be MM not because I’m scared but quite frankly I dont have 50-100 to waste on that, and Yes last time I played you at Jas’s in Mahvel I was winning pretty constantly . You won a 13 man tournament congrats not taking that away from you or anyone in that tourny but our ranbats are bigger. Your Cap is probably better than mine honestly I’ll give you that I mean it be sad if I was better already with a character I’d played for couple days in that vid. But If you wanna play me and my Best Friends feel free anytime but it wont be for money at the moment that’s just the facts. Sorry If I offended the great Marcus what ever shall I do I mean he might tell people I’m slaw or something and that just make me sad. I’d just die if he wrote in all caps and bolded the letters so people could read it better. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I was at the UMvC3 midnight with a buddy, and this guy was talking about characters like he was just protier with them, and then derped when I engaged him in conversation. He somehow knew how to do “that magneto flight combo with slaps into level 3” but had no idea that his disruptor in vanilla was machine gunnable with x-factor, or better yet, what a tri-jump was.

I’m never going to be able to do any of the bullshit past the halfway point in this video. Fuck SNK.

There are a lot of factors that lead to those types of people, imo. First, it’s not exactly easy for newer people to find information on a local scene, unless they know about SRK and how to traverse the subforums. When I was first jumping into the scene, I literally googled “Tournaments in Tennessee,” which led me to the SSBM TN thread. That’s where I found out Milln held random tournaments in the Hickory Hollow Mall. Then, I was told by Phil that the other TN players post on the SRK forums. A good idea would be to incorporate something that points new accounts to the Regional Matchmaking subforums, tell the user to choose his/her general area, and then tell them to find the topic with their state name.

Second, a lot of the people are “socially awkward penguins,” as those meme-loving crazies might call themselves. They don’t like the idea of large, or even small, groups of people in a close vicinity.

Third, they may be embarassed by their skill or lack confidence. Plus, scenes aren’t always friendly to the new guys anyway. I know when a brought a friend to his first MvC3 tournament, he watched some casuals and said, “Why am I even here? These guys are way better than me.” He went on to beat me in grand finals and take home more than $80.

Lastly, they usually think they don’t have enough money, or that they don’t want to waste money on it. Remember, a lot of these non-scene players are younger and/or without a job.

Oh I forgot did anyone get Tekken Hybrid?

Yeah… Fuck the whole “well no big name players are going to play this game!” mentality. I’ll gladly enter a god damn 3 man KoF tourney if I have to.

That is of course assuming I can ever get off work on a Saturday again.

I will play in KoF tourneys. Like, I was thinking, I know I’m subpar in most fighting games, but I have fun playing them, and if I go 0-2, then oh well shit happens hooyeah. I wish MK took off, I really had high hopes for that game, but even our resident MK player (Goldenoreos) has moved over to SF4 just because nobody cares about MK anymore. I hope KoF13 doesnt go that route too.

I think I’m just going to start playing in all brackets, no matter the game. If that means I have to bring my scrub tatsu derp Ryu combo in MVC to the table and beat 1 guy, at least I had fun. As long as there’s no fuerte. I think the general consensus now is ban fuerte lol

That’s been my plan. I just want to play every game I know how, regardless of the comp. I really need to make it out there to a tourney soon though. Been too long.

Distance and money play a large factor in it for me. Most people that play live between an Hour or even 3 hours away. To compete I have to drive to nashville which is a 3 hour drive and then i usually leave right after my events because I want to get home without driving overnight. I honestly would love to come up twice a month or even once a month but the money is not here for me to do it. I know i am not at a level that i will show up and win either at Nashville so that also puts me at a disadvantage for wanting to come. The people that live in Knoxville eat, breathe, and sleep UMvC3 and Tekken…I do not play either because UMvC3 is just stupid to me and I just do not have the time in my life to learn the ways of tekken, I just mash in that game. So with that being the Knoxville scene i feel like an outcast because I would rather not play a game that I do not enjoy with a local scene but deal with playing online on a game that i enjoy. With that being said I enjoy going to Game Galaxy when i can and i would love to get to know all you guys better up there. I just hate going up there alone and feeling awkward with everyone being buddy buddy and I am lone man out. That is just my case and how i feel on the subject. I still wish to come up and compete, there are just things that work against me every time i choose to commit to.

If it wasn’t for the fact I randomly ran into Naimat while playing BB online I would not be here.

You’re not the lone man out you just have to make it a point to talk to people and hang out if you can. I came from a completely different state and made friends with plenty of the dudes here. Can’t say we hang out everyday or anything but, they are friends none the less. You just have to build report with people. I know you live further than others but usually after the tournaments we go out to eat and have some beers. That’s how a lot of us got to be closer and the reason you see us so buddy buddy.

I am an introverted kinda guy, it is hard for me to come out of my shell in person. Its not that i do not like people I have anxiety issues. I would love to hang out and chill but like i said I leave usually right after my events due to the travel back. If i knew i had a place to crash i would definitely stay and chill with everyone.

I don’t know Tripp, you seemed like a complete and total dick to me. I just added you on XBL for the Vega exp, but now that I know Dream plays a mean footsie Vega, I’m thinking this relationship is going to end. Also Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving to you to Zeth. Yeah Dream has a solid vega. Most of his characters are more solid than mine.

Yeah, I don’t think he’s ever whiffed a normal when I’ve played him. Being serious though, get that new Fiasco mix tape, dudes killing dub step beats, the coolest nigga what!?!

happy thanksgiving to everyone, may the food be good, the beers be drank, and the FADCs be mashed
