kinda off topic question but where does this game get played offline?
The game used to get heavily played at The Break, NY, CT on the east coast and certain spots in Cali, probably Dasrik can fill you in on those. For the most part, noone plays anymore.
I found the old mvc1 thread, its at http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38970 . If anyone has any question abotu what I wrote there you can just ask here.
Man playing at ECCX gives me memories…
Too bad Art raped the shit outta us…
I had my little moments though as Jin!!!
Top Tier JIN son!!
Haha, Marvel 1 used to get play when Evo was in Pomona. I dunno if the new location has it.
But yeah, Chun-Li should be higher, except the only person I’ve come across who can play her right is image. My Chun is hella scrubbalicious…
Arturo, can you explain why Strider/GWM isn’t that great a team? I didn’t see anything about it in the other thread.
Hmm. It seems my alter ego was the last post on that thread.
Lilith is only good with Strider Hiryu. I would never play Lilith without Strider, unless I was flat out insulting you (I remember beating some cholos at a family amusement center with Lilith/Orange Hulk. After the matches, they dumped all my medicine down the toilet. Haha.)
Dasrik misquoted me on that. I never said GWM/Strider was shitty. In fact, its the team that Eddie Lee used to counter me with all the time, which is why he’s a slight bit better than me. GWM/Strider’s main purpose is to hard counter any RV based team. The main purpose of the fight is to start at the char select screen, if you think he’s going to pick RV first then you put gwm 1st (since theres no way he can kill GWM before he gets 2 levels), if they put their backup char in 1st the you put in strider. Duo’s and combination of GWM make it mad hard for RV to win this match (unless you use your primary to beat Strider or GWM.)
Also, this team counters true pixie teams for the most part, a bit better than double war machines IMO, because Strider can fight pixies better than WM can.
I haven’t seen a good Lilith?
What’s her strategy? Is it just duo?
I would personally put Gambit slightly higher. Good launcher, infinite, and pretty good duo-team.
Also what’s so good about Captain Commando? I know he fights the war machines alright, but it’s still an upward battle. He has a tough time getting damage in.
I haven’t seen a good hulk either, but I heard about eddie/sabin’s tear at one of the B tournaments.
I thought Captain Commando was at the bottom, personally…
I was wondering, does anyone use WM’s kara knee drop into fly at all?
What is a kara-knee drop?
Hey guys,
I always thought this game was pretty neat, even when I went to Cali and Eddie Lee infinited me. I would get into this game, just need a starting point. I play hella XvSF, but I realize that this game has a lot of differences, so I can’t just play it the same way. I mainly use Wolv/Strider.
Any tips?
Thanks. And Arturo, I hear you’re bananas at XvSF. We should play at an EVO some time.

Uhhh, sorry. I thought it was a kara at first but it’s just a cancel. My bad.
You know? When you do a knee drop, at anytime you can cancel into flight mode. When your already in flight mode and do a knee drop, the knee drop cancels you out of flight mode. So if you cancel the knee drop into flight mode when your already flying, you can fly indefinately so as along as you do that often and before the ~5 second time restriction on flight mode.
What I was wondering was that if anyone actually used this in combos. I mean, I see it in Ironman’s long unfly combos in MvC2, but in MvC1 all I’ve seen so far is people doing those crazy looking j.fierce airdash cancel combos. But what I was wondering was if you can do this: […while flying: j.short, j.strong, knee drop x flight mode, j.jab] to make his semi-infinite a real one. But I guess it would be have been already talked about over here if it were possible.
I think it’s part of WM’s real infinite. But I don’t really know anything about that.
I would like to know what WM’s real infinite is. Sabin, anyone else know?
Okay, I like using Strider, RV and WM. Strider I think I know pretty well, RV and WM I honestly don’t know very much about. What are some set ups for RV’s infinite? How can you get into it from a throw (I’m assuming it’s either the d+mp, d+fp, repeat or his normal jump infinite)
Clear Sky: Honestly I don’t remember know to do his actual refly infinite. I gave up WM a long time ago cause I couldn’t do it. I think youre better off asking one of the kaillera heads, they might know (seriously) since theyre mostly about those crazy combos.
Only one player I knew could do that infinite offline consistently. Online, its a different story due to macros and whatnot etc.
The Fireboy: you can set it up like this - off a fierce throw, if youre not in the corner, launch, normal jump fwd fierce rh repeat. timing is a bit tricky on that one. if youre in the corner, launch, jab short fwd fierce, when they hit the floor otg low short, hit low strong, low fierce x N. if you wanna chain into air infinite from th e ground one you can also, once you get their body high enough from the low strong low fierce reps you can do normal jump short - jump fierce/jump rh infinitely.
dogface: Thanks for the props, but I just run the standard Storm/Chun duos like a lot of other people do. I never took the time out of the game to do the crazy advanced combos (and i’ve heard youre known for that.) But yeah, I’m definetely down to play anytime.
If you post up some specific stuff like matchups I can help you with your strategy.
Oh no, Marvel 1 talk…
Tier list is wack, Top 5 are Strider, Red Venom, War Machine, Wolvie, and probably Gold War Machine, in that order. Lilith? She hasn’t done shit in a tournament, ever. Hulk and Chun should also be high on the list, because although they don’t have broken shit, they still have some pretty useable stuff in serious games.
Mid tier is like Gambit and Megaman and maybe a few others, and the rest suck.
Viscant sucks. Beat his Gief with one button.
Dogface, why didn’t you say you wanted to learn Marvel? I was one of the few people who actually played that game competitively back in the day. CT was actually one of the three or so places where that game was played at top levels…I’d be happy to show you some tricks.
I believe I still have a perfect record against DSP. He shouldn’t talk about sucking at MvC1 when I’m still batting 1.000 against him.
THANK YOU THAT IS ALL.

Arturo,
Yeah man, getting some games in would be cool. Eddie Lee played a very basic Gambit/Chun when we played a few years back and it drove me crazy. You EC guys don’t need to be fancy. You didn’t make it out to EVO2K5 did you?
I would love to learn Strider/Wolv. I think someone said that doing the long air combo with Strider is a waste and it’d better to do his BnB combo. I can just look for that if all that info’s in your old thread. And Wolv has some roundhouse divekick otg nonsense right?
DSP,
Oh yeah dood, I really dig MvC. But nowhere to play in SoCal so never real point in learning it. Just think it’d be cool to have a good enough understanding so that when I see you at EVO2K6 you don’t just eat me. And I know you’re gonna be there, since ST singles are going down:)
