You might want to get on BBS though. The KH3 Prologue is essentially a direct BBS Sequel.
I recommend just watching the cutscenes for BBS. I tried playing it on 2.5HD and the gameplay is hot garbage (But I really like the story).
I dislike the story, gameplay has always been what brought me back. And I think 3 will bring some nice gameplay and make up for

I somewhat disargee with time investment being a bad excuse if you actually have gone out of your way to play and complete EVERY KH game for every platform…

It’s not a bad excuse, it’s a sad excuse. I don’t care how much you’ve sunk into something, if you don’t like something it’s not illegal to just tap out and admit it isn’t for you.
And KH’s gameplay alone is not enough to really play the series over. If you don’t like the story, playing the game would be unbearable.

Who the fuck plays RPGs for the mechanics? 
KH does have decent combat since it’s an action RPG, but you’re better off playing a different game if you don’t like everything else that comes with it.
You’ve never played a game with a bad story, but generally like everything else about it? That would stop you from playing it?

Also not everyone plays games for the same reasons. Some like in depth long stories and some like challenge and gameplay.
I like getting 100% in KHII final mix, beating all the mini games and secret bosses on the hardest difficulty.
Story has no impact on that other than completion.

Star Ocean the Last Hope, FFXII, seriously there are plenty for rpgs with good gameplay and have bad stories.
I liked Star Ocean 4 and FFXIII’s stories lol. Enough to follow along with them, at least. If I couldn’t bare them, I wouldn’t play those games since the stories are the driving points of RPGs.
If story is what you’re looking for. Unless it actually has a good story(most rpgs don’t) I play to beat RPGs on max difficulty, make my character(s) as broken as possible and get all achievements.
I big draw of The Witcher for me has been the mechanics. Its nice the story is ace to, but the mecha ics are the main draw, especially Witcher 3.

almost rpg has a very generic, boring and droll storyline that has been told 1000 times over. it’s how they tell it that matters.
Lost Odyssey immediately comes to mind. Great game with a great story, classic but refined mechanics. Characters you instantly fall inlove with who are original but remind you of jrpg characters of the past you love.
KH is a hodgepodge of tumblr inspired nonsense these days. When you have a community of people trying to figure out everything that happens in the time line of KH and why all the while still not getting it right…you know something is fucked up somewhere.
What saves KH is it’s cast of characters (Namely the Disney and non-original Squee characters) and it’s gameplay. If people play KH for the story than bless. cause i sure as fuck don’t. i play them for fun mechanics and Squall…Leon and Hundred Acre Woods.
Story is so convoluted…but I am intrigued to still follow along.
