Alright, so I’ve been thinking of starting a somewhat local tournament scene by me. Since a lot of the tournaments by me are starting to become $20 total to get in, I’m thinking of just doing a cheap $5 tournament either monthly or bi-weekly. It’d be in Maywood, which is the same town as the NJ Halo tournaments and all that, but at a different location. Reason is, I can get the venue for free, it’s pretty decently sized, and has A/C. Obviously I’m not looking to make money off of this or anything, I really just want to bring some people together for a little tournament and some casuals, which is why I’m only asking for $5 entry (tournament payout will be 70-20-10, which I think is usual).
So anyway, any tips to remember for someone trying to run their first tournament and get it started? I don’t want to ruin the idea of a cheap tournament session by doing something stupid.

Yeah man, I’m dying to get to tournaments, but I think that $20 entry is making it harder for people to do it consistently for people who are a bit tight on money. Just curious, but is there any reason most tournaments seem to be on PS3 instead of 360? Is it personal preference, or is there actually some logic involved?
I feel its the opposite and that every tournament in NJ is run on xbox 360 except for 8otb weeklies. 8otb runs on PS3 because it is the standard for major tournaments and it is convenient for the tournament organizers.
