The New Definitive HDTV Lag FAQ

32LH30 $439.99. Bestbuy, Black Friday.

Damn man, that monitor is nice and all but 600 bucks for a 24 inch PC monitor?

for the E2420HD or E2400HD?

I didn’t pay 600 for the E2400HD.

Yeah, I just looked the BenQ E2400HD on Amazon and its going for 599 bucks but I think its just some asshole authorized Amazon seller trying to take advantage of people, kind of like how you see the Evo monitor going for like 300 bucks on Amazon too.

Shit like that pisses me off so much.

I just got Bust a Groove for PS1, but it still lags on my PS3, even when played thru regular composite video. I even tried without optical audio out, into regular RCA outputs. I hope I either suck or there is a fix. Otherwise I just gotta buy a PS2.

Its because the emulator/emotion engine, playing ps2 and ps1 games on a ps3 will have lag regardless even if you have a lagless monitor/TV.

Something I’ve been wondering.; does the PS2 lag when playing PS1 games?

No, not anymore then a ps2 game running in 480i would.

Now I’ve got a question, will the evo monitor lag in ANY resolution?

I know it won’t for 1080p and 720p but will it for 480i and 480p?

Yeah I did a google search, nothing.

What do you guys think about the test performed by this guy:

Looks pretty convincing to me. I’m REALLY tempted to buy that TV.

I don’t think most computer monitors accept 480 signals.

The evo monitor is a computer monitor?

Damn it I’ve been misinformed.

Okay, so the official Evo monitors are MIA, but there’s a model with an ‘L’ on the end now available (VH236HL, compared to the Evo model’s VH236H).

All specs are virtually identical (only differences are 10 degrees less horizontal viewing angle, 5 watts less power consumption, more stand adjustment, heavier… nothing relevant, really).

So… safe bet?

Info on testing Input Lag:

From that thread:
"Here is a program that uses bars instead of a timer to determine where the monitors are refreshing: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1423433 "

Awesome IPS Monitor, 22" 1680x1050:

Supports component input through VGA, however stretches 16:9 to 16:10. Theres a 4:3 mode.

The tread offers no concrete evidence that the test is accurate. It offers the same conclusion that is on this tread, which is the stopwatch test ain’t that accurate because of too many unknown factors.

Some people who kept insisting that the stop LCD vs CRT stopwatch test is accurate never actually done the test themselves.

I’ve done the LCD vs CRT stopwatch test numerous times and I kept on getting inconsistent results.

I’ve actually tested an LCD that I know for sure lags and I’ve gotten low lag result with the test, Ive actually tested a monitor that I know for sure doesn’t lag and have shown 4 frames of lag. I’ve actually found a way to set up the camera setting that will always show 0ms difference vs a CRT!

In my opinion the LCD vs CRT test is as useful as the the RB2 test, for some people its good enough…but shouldn’t preach it as the definitive input lag test.

Has anyone done or heard any sort of test results on the newer LED style tv’s. I’m curious to know if the hybrid style of those tv’s helps or hurts the potential lag issues.

Well after paying alot of $$ for Bust a Groove and Parappa the Rapper for PS1, only to find out my 20GB PS3 which should be 100% backwards compatible still lags, I said fk it and bought a PSone.

I have Parappa 2 for PS2 and it SEEMS ok on PS3. So I guess PS2 games on one of the fully backwards compatible PS3’s are ok, but PS1 will always use emulation. Is that correct?

I’m getting one of these for what seems like a sweetheart of a deal ($125 cad)

Anyone have experience with one of these connected to a ps3?

Kosh tested the Samsung XL2370 which LED base and got zero/low lag results.

ps1/ps2 will always have lag on a PS3…doesn’t matter if you have the early 60gb/20gb emotion engine one or or newer one that does software emulation.

Not sure if it was posted but it looks like PRAD did a test on the Asus VK246H (Also the same as the VH246H, only the VK has a camera on it)

Everyone knows that the PS3 lags on old games due to upconversion, but what if you play them on an old CRT? I also know the controllers themselves have a bit of lag on them, but what happens if you use an inpin converter and plug in an original playstation controller? Do they become lag free on an old CRT?
