Not all 32" LCD cabinet have lag.

Here is a vid of one in action. This model still had about 20-30 ms lag on the vga input. My friend has a 42 inch model from walmart, it has the vga input, so I would expect almost all vizios to have it.

if anyone has a 2 channel digital oscilloscope handy, an awesome test for input lag would be hooking up a light sensing diode circuit on one channel (with the light sensing diode over a specific part of the monitor) and the button pressed on the other channel, and measuring the milliseconds between the button press and change in the light sensing diode voltage. You could test a ton of stuff with this setup, wish I could use my old college’s electronics lab to do this.
I’d like something budget minded in the 24-32" range with speakers if possible…
anybody have a recommendation?
Any way we can just get our hands on the one used for SF4?
Size isn’t a big priority for me.

I just got one and love it. It comes with an ipod dock, so you can use the remote to cycle through songs and movies and play them on your tv. She also has as sd card slot.
Vieras are supposed to have a good game mode, it feels pretty good when compared to my old setups. I got mine in one day from newegg, cost me $389 shipped.
thanks… I’ll have to check it out… :wgrin:
Out of curiosity, which is the more lag-free on the VH236H? VGA or HDMI? (On the Xbox 360 if that matters)
I play a lot of Rock Band and fighting games, so I do like to have no lag. I currently using this monitor: http://www.amazon.com/Compaq-Q2009-20-Inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B002A6G0TC , and was kinda looking to replace it. (Obviously, I’d like to know if I should get an HDMI cable along with this replacement.)
Don’t get me wrong, this monitor I currently have is great. It’s just I kinda stole it from my parents when I left for college, lol. I got a bit of cash now, so was looking into some good monitor options.
I tried to do a bit of searching, but couldn’t find out whether or not this replacement would be worth it.
Wait a sec, isn’t an hdmi cable the only way to get full HD?
majority of games only runs 720p.
Component/VGA is fully capable of 1080p, but companies put restrictions on outputting 1080p movies through analog connections because they don’t support HDCP… so you can only play games at 1080p over something other than an HDMI cable, but not much else. Plus, most HDTVs nowadays also build in their own protection so they won’t even accept component 1080p at all.
A DVI cable will also do 1080p. A component will do up to 1080I but like shin said, almost all games right now are 720p, so cables don’t matter too much. For what it is worth, if it is a 1080I or lower resolution setup, home theater users usually prefer Component to HDMI. HDMI cables have terrible signal strength past the 15 foot mark, where as the analog signal for component cable could go 100 feet no problem. For some reason component looks better on my projector! LOL
That’s the first I’m hearing of this, also I’m certain component can carry 1080p. Whether the equipment it’s hooked to can accept 1080p over component seems to be more of an issue.
Hmm it might be able to. I guess the reason I cannot do 1080p with component is because of the HDCP issue.

Edit: Seems like component has the capability to do 1080p. Most producers of electronic equipment do not let the devices output 1080p over component. Analog signals have no copyright protection, so they will only let you bootleg in 720p or less!
For gaming you’ll be fine. It’s movie watching where this becomes a concern and that’s due to copy protection.

back to input lag discussion…
PS3 having input lag compared to xbox360???
On Justin Wong’s website says:
“JWonggg Answer
There is input lag timing between the 2. I personally play on xbox and the fact that PS3 lags alot affects my gameplay a bit. I miss combos I usually never miss but you?ll adjust to it sooner or later. The music they used for Marvel is always better than the current soundtrack. I would listen to anything besides the current music.”
WOW!! …I don’t want to doubt the guy…He is the best player in the US.
If I’m remembering my pieced together information correctly, Xbox has an internal scaler that it applies to games. The PS3 doesn’t scale them so if a game is rendered at 720p it outputs it at 720p. This means with a 1080p display the TV or monitor will have to handle upscaling. If the display has a slow scaler then there will be more lag introduced.
That’s what i was thinking too…
I will be doing ps3 vs xbox360 test using the 60fps camera method once I get my ps3 TE stick back from my friend.
component can carry full 1080p signal… there isn’t any more information in 1080p than 1080i, just that it is progressive…
hdcp is why it’s usually not an option…
and honestly 1080i is usually fine on a 1080p TV as it gets all the information, the TV just de-interlaces it… now yes if the TV is bad at deinterlacing, it’s not as good a picture, but not horrible… the only issue would be that the deinterlacing could introduce lag… how much, I have no idea…
the the simple fact that 360 has an official VGA cable that works with anything that has a PC port is reason enough to play SF or any game that u care about input lag on. in most cases with ps3. your forced to run laggy component, laggy hmdi or AV with a crt (for no lag)
Dont get it twisted, even if u use AV cable and set it to SD on your ps3. its the LCD screen that lags. so if your set lags, it lags. unless your fortunate enough to have an lcd with a mode (whether it be PC or game) that eliminates most if not all post processing . and in that case. it will probably still lag a TAD… but not noticeable.
