The New Definitive HDTV Lag FAQ

???

Most if not all 720p HDTV’s units are 1366x768.

try finding a flat panel TV that is only 1280x720…

^ i dont think thats what he means.

he just means it slightly downscales to 1280x720 to display 720. (id think)

Any word on LED TVs?

^same shit my dude. they can have up to 90+ ms of input lag.
some are better then others.

so far the best 2 screen I’ve seen running SF4 (image quality, disregard input lag ans so on) is on:

A HP LP3064 with a PC running SF4 max setting @ 2560 x 1600 resolution.

and

a 1366x768 monitor with a xbox360 set at 1366x768. Looks way better that the asus evo monitor.
This is the set I will be doing the input lag test on.

I guess that was to be expected. I love my plasma, but that fucker gets hot and my condo is on the second floor of the building under direct sunlight. At least it will keep me warm during the winter.

nice.

when i get my LG set (the lower grade vewlix one) ill run tests on all connection types on it and post it up too.

the lower grade Vewlix L doesn’t have an LG, it has a GTT (korean brand)

the New Delta 32 has the LG monitors.

^gotcha! thanks.

i’ve been extremely tempted to get the new sharp 46 incher led backlit lcd, but the lack of raw data on these things are keeping me away for the time being. pablo, if i get my hands on a means to test the tv in the store i’ll be sure to post results for you. i’m thiiis close to lugging my heavy ass pc over to the store.

besides d-sub, s-video and hdmi, is there a way to get a pc/ laptop hooked to a tv through component? if i ever get the chance to test the thing i want to cover all the bases.

shinshoryuken,

I appreciate all the info you have been giving. I am currently looking around for a 32 inch monitor/tv with the least input lag.

You stated that your secondary monitor which you will be testing on looks better than the asus evo monitor. What is the brand/model/size of that monitor?

You also mentioned the LG 720p models. Do you know if those have a low input lag?

Can’t wait to see the results of your test. Many thanks!

any instructions on how to setup the ps3 via mayflash vga cable?

You need to configure your PS3 to output via component in display settings. I found when using this cable that the PS3 detected that I’d switched from HDMI to component (via the VGA connector in my TV) when I turned the system on and downscaled everything to 480p. I then went into display settings and selected the resolutions my television supported (1080p).

Unfortunately for me, this cable did NOT work on my television (Samsung 40" LCD - 5 series) outside of 480p resolutions. I am unsure why. It worked perfectly fine on my Samsung 226BW desktop LCD panel however with fantastic results.

I’m not too sure why my Samsung LCD television didn’t like the VGA connection - it cited ‘mode not supported’ despite accepting 1080p signals just fine via VGA from my desktop PC AND my laptop. Odd.

Because of this, I have opted for a VGA upscaler box as explained and detailed in this post:

Its yet to arrive. I hope to have results to share soon.

I recently got the Asus evo monitor the vh236 monitor, socal heads is there a good hdmi cable that’s relatively cheap cuz im not trying to go all the way and buy monster cables. thanks in advanced yall… im thinking of hitting up Frys or something.

I mentioned the LG screen because the New Delta 32 arcade cabinet and gods garden tournament in japan uses LG screens. I’m guessing you can just get the specification of the commercial screen and find an equivalent consumer version.

it looks like both 720p models the 32LG30DC and the 32lh20 have similar specs as the commercial screens.

usually the lower end models are the ones that doesn’t have the bell & whistle of imaging enhancements, which mean less post processing. This is all theory though…

The 32lh30 which is the newer 1080p version of the 32lh20 seem to do very good compare to other 32" display (2frames of lag.) As far as I know there is yet a 30" screen or higher that’s been tested with “zero input lag”

As far as my monitor goes, here a hint: just like the asus monitor, its been used at a tournament…but yeah you will just have to wait and see.

sent u a PM…but Gamogo seem to be on the right track.

I actually took an AV class and the instructor told me all hdmi cable does the same thing regardless of price. LOL he was trying so hard not to trash on monster cables LOL.

I use these - BELKIN PURE AV AV52300b04 4 feet HDMI Cable
You can get them from Newegg on sale

You can also get a cheaper version - I don’t actually know the difference between these and the cheaper version. I had crappy brand before… Soniq I think, and when watching video the voices were out of sink

Thanks for help guys i figured, just penny pinchin for the right stuff.

You should’ve just bought a different crappy brand and saved yourself some money, at least for a cable under 2 metres long.

shinshoryuken: If your monitor isn’t retardedly cheap or over 26 inches in size, you’re not really going to surprise anyone.

 it ain’t cheap but it is over …26" :looney:

This is true. HDMI sends a digital signal. Competing HDMI cables that cite better ‘quality’ images and so on are largely talking crap.
