Do you guys think a worthy Akuma could win Evo?
Don’t see any reason a worthwhile Akuma couldn’t.
Not liking Super Akuma for reasons most of you said. I am losing to scrubs and spammers. And my worst matches are still ryu, bison, rog, and ken due to spam priority moves and pokes. They just neutralise anything Akuma tries unless I zone like a bitch and I am playing rushdown now more or less. He is still fun overall.
Two solid Akuma players are attending EVO from Australia. Human Bomb and Toxy. I’m eager to see how they place.
Yeah pretty interested to see how well HB and Toxy go. I hope HB goes to Akuma.
Tokido is going though so that will be beast.

i don’t think he’s top three but to each his own. imo he’s dropped but still in the top ten.
even though his stun output dropped, stun is ass in this game anyways so i don’t really miss it. shaku, df divekick and hk nerfs hurt akuma but having a gdlk air fireball, huge damaging combos, and many options are what’s keeping akuma competitive. at least his regular divekick isn’t as bad as gouken’s and having a c.lp to s.hp link makes his regular divekick useful against small and crouching characters.
I am debating on going to Evo this year. It depends on if I can get a PS3 stick in time.
what do you mean by that? are you saying regular divekick> s.hp whiffs on smaller characters so you have to hit confirm with the cr.lp?

Akuma is still definitely top 3…He’s probably got the number 2 spot next to rufus…hell he might even still be number one. Of course now you gotta be even more of a better player to do decently with him, but he’s still a beast

But I still play him in tournaments but hes just hella boring now so I am switching to other chars.

-momochi is probably going to play ibuki.
-toxy and hb aren’t good enough to make top 8, especially considering all the good japanese players coming over (in part because sponsors seem to be popping up right and left for fighting games…which is a good thing). Solid they are, amazing they are not. They need better footsies and a lot less random demon flips.
-akuma will probably not win it but I bet there will be 1 (japanese) player in the top 8 if not 2.
-Rufus is very strong now (i think its akuma’s first and only bad match-up… 6-4 probably) and considering almost all the top players have rufus in their pocket (he’s pretty simple to play the basics and even mid-level game with) that doesn’t bode well for akuma players come evo.
-Random ultras can actually lose akuma a round still, for most of the cast that isn’t true anymore. This goes into the whole “low health = not good for tournaments” unless they have INSANE keepout." Akuma has GOOD keepout, but still has to play footsies (this isn’t blazblue) where one FADC combo can lead to half health gone easily.
ssf4 akuma:
Probably where he was in the last game… top 5, but never wins anything in the US because the footsies (its not the execution thats the problem…most of his stuff is still pretty easy) just aren’t there. Thats the real difference when you look at japanes akuma players compared to US, euro, aussie, etc … they have good footsies. Overuse of demon flips to get in don’t work against players that are ready for it and you want to mix up normal and air fb, which can be very unsafe and makes people lose life leads because they were being silly and didn’t think that its JUST as easy for someone to FA through an air fireball and punish as it is to FA through a normal fb. (one quick example, I was almost crying seeing how many times toxy? could have caught daigo in a big combo had he just ekpt using EX air fb near the end of his drop to catch daigo’s repeated attempts to trip/trip-guard him and didn’t even after having it work before).
Also, he is top 5 when played right and played WELL. He is probably only B tier when used by the majority of players.
p.s- to gyro. The only reason you should be “zoning like a bitch” is A: because you are smart or B: because you suck. Zoning with jump fireballs is no different than using a normal fireball, safe knee presses, hundo-hands, etc. Its akuma’s zoning + his chip damage. You zone until you get the knockdown THEN you rushdown. And online thats even harder because you run into so many people throwing out random ultras and specials… in which case I recommend going for cross-up tatsu a lot on knockdown until you learn what type of player you opponent is.

I think Akuma is still a top contender in this game easily, he received less nerfs than characters such as Ryu or Sagat and still plays the same for the most part. Most of his nerfs were just damage and stun but the games overall damage output is reduced so thats not that bad. I still think they went a little overboard reducing his stun this much but I can live with it.

In the video it says “Momochi doesnt go to EVO because there is Tougeki.” It is a shame that hes not going but he has said that he doesnt think Ibuki is that great of a character so hes probably gonna stick with Akuma(still trying to find the vid).I still have hope for the Akuma players at EVO this year since Tokido and Eita are coming, either one of them could win it.

Well, there seems to be a lot of diverging opinions on the matter so far. But I think the most telling factor is how the “pros” are reacting to Akuma in Super. Tokido is a mere shadow of himself. Momochi’s been favoring Ibuki for a while. I haven’t heard or seen anything from Eita’s Akuma in Super SF4…
It’s interesting to say the least that there seems to be such wide differences in views on this one subject. I have to admit, it’s a tough call… I’m still liking playing with Akuma. In fact, I’d say my Akuma got better in Super than he ever was in Vanilla (that’s not saying much though considering I got raped online by ShinAkuma204 several times in the last 2 days). I guess it’s just the fact that, like many have already stated, you have to put in much more effort and care into how you play with him now.
regular dive kick has much shorter hit stun than demon flip dive kick. as far as i’m aware, it’s not possible to combo s.hp from a regular dive kick so i use cr.lp linked into s.hp to lead into big damage.
