The New Akuma Match-up Thread *Recent Update*

Iv also have a very hard time dealing with a good chun in this match up. I suggest that you try to trick the player and try and go for things that come in your favor as a Akuma player. Such as using Demon Flips and using every chance you get when u knock her down. Get the player scared and then go for grab mix ups and such. Also try and watch out for her ex legs on wake up, go for a jump in meaty and then block and punish according.

so much of fighting games, chess games, etc. is basing your option on what you know your opponent wants to do. If you keep getting legs/bird during your block strings then you should go for a SRK instead of a throw now and again. If the person is constantly hitting you out of your tic throw its not because they are REACTING… same deal as someone mashing srk during a block string (and since her options are safe on block srk is going to be more useful. Another option is instead of that tick throw cancel the last hit of the block string into a demon flip.

Focus fb, punish her flips, etc. And don’t be afraid to hold out a focus and then backdashing… as long as you aren’t RIGHT next to her you will have time to safely avoid the poke and get a chance for a huge focus combo if she did a flip or a trip (at least get a little damage and backdash off the trip). In general demon flip gives her problems if you aren’t stupid and obvious with it (such as doing it from a full screen away other than on wake-up) and on wake-up its your best option. Ohh… and focus dash ultra (not hitting… jsut dashing) works if the person is a poke-aholic but its not a real option unless A. its a super demon or B. you are down and need the big turnaround.

You are going to want to make sure you use your sweep to keep her at the tip of sweep range (but be careful when she has super if the player is good)… Make sure you punish her for jumping at you… you won’t be winning any air-to-air contests but c.hp, s.hp, hp srk will keep her off you. And as long as your aren’t repetitive then the match will get a lot easier (not EASY… as its a rather even match so general the better trained player with better reaction time, etc. will win).

I dunno if this is common knowledge or not, but Demon Flip Throw option select SRK beats almost everything Gief can do on wakeup: block, EX Green Hand, Lariat, backdash, forward dash, neutral jump, the whole lot. There’s two options it will NOT beat, however: forward jump and jump canceled Lariat. Forward jump gets beaten by both of his other options off the Demon Flip, the Dive Kick and Palm. I don’t think jump canceled Lariat will work against Dive Kick or meaty Palm either; I have only ever beaten Dive Kick with crouch Lariat, and to jump cancel you have to hold up for a split second before Lariating. With the Palm, I think only reversal Lariat will catch you in the air if you attempt a meaty Palm, and jump canceled Lariat must be slightly delayed. Hope this helps someone.

This helps me! Thanks i been having trouble with this match up lately. People say its fairly easy but i seem to get fucked up by good Geifs. But ill learn to get the match up.

problem against sagat.

after sweep.

is there any timing possible so that light uppercut/heavy uppercut do not trade with dive?

^Yes press kick later so that the kick is more near his neck…You should never trade or loose against sagat dP with demon flip dive kick unless you are at max sweep range…

how sure of you at this statement. in a tourney or serious deathmatch situation will you be capable of 100% not trade with dp?

im playing against a sagat that gambles his uppercut against my dive and his getting me more than ever…

i’m finding during bad days when my loops and safe jump aren’t accurate.

and playing a sagat that can almost 100% dp my crossover tatsu mixup its getting tiring and not rewarding at all.

i end up relying on sudden jump ex airfireball and consistently getting hit by uppercut in the middle of it. traded and eat a rh into ex tshot/ultra.

my recent tools against sagat has been

  1. grab dash*2 flip dive
  2. hp,tatsu,hp,flip dive/grab
  3. hp,tatsu, c.hk, flip dive

especially no2. have a risk reward of either winning the game immediately or losing the game immediately

win = hit and sagat stunned.
lose = trade uppercut roundhouse ultra/ex tigershot.

are these uppercutable? im getting lazy i guess to do crossover tatsu when i know my opponent can late dp it almost 100%

^well I’m 100% confident but I went into training mode and set the dummy on all forms of wake up dp and tested my shit out… if you wanna kill 100% of sagat dP’s on wake up after a sweep x-up tatsu him…that will definitely never trade and shouldn’t loose if you do it right…it sounds like you have some trouble with the timing…I say hit training mode until you feel confident until then just safe jump him with HP or HK and bait his dP’s and if he FADC’s he just lost meter so that’s good for you 2.

100%. Sagat cannot uppercut your divekick unless you are too far or you hit the kick too early. You need to hit the button at the end of the flip.

well my odds on trading the uppercut have been real high causing me to lose some good amounts to a regular sagat that i am playing.

and those regular sagat is the worst of the bunch that doesn’t do proper juggle but have hellish reaction with uppercut or retarded 50/50 grab and uppercut mind games.

though most of this are supposingly easily countered by late tech or proper amount of safe jump.

i don’t know how to explain it right…getting abit sick of it sometimes. against a turtling sagat especially. because i know the reason of loss is because i am imperfect at execution and hence getting hit by those retarded player that just wait for those opportunities.

its like fighting game like tekken where you are forced to guess
bruce cd3/cd2 situation
ryu tech throws…sagat 50/50…they are retarded ways of playing ryu/sagat but hell it works alot when the opponent are really good at doing it.

Does anyone have a good way of Geifs X-Up knee and CH the 360 other than the teleport… because it seems like it has a lot of block stun, and i cant seem to get out of it on block. ONLINE ITS BEEN KILLING ME DOG! :crybaby:

What’s the best way to deal with Dictator’s Knee Press? I meet a lot of Bison’s who do a safe knee press and the LK pokes that come after beat my pokes and they combo that poke off with another Knee Press. Is there any poke that can beat Bison’s LK pokes? Or is my only option to teleport/ air fireball away?

^Just get away…Unless it’s a MK/HK/EX scissor kick then just mash lp dP…His cLK is 3 frame and your LP is 3 frame but his has range so no you can’t beat it…without that bison would be ass…

Cant his cr.strong stuff scissors?

Also last night I came across a very good Gen. Wasnt aware of the match-up and got hit pretty hard. Looked at the matchup here and there was virtually nothing. So I did the next best thing. I went to the Gen matchup thread.
Figured I’d share what I read.

^nope…not after blocking a LK scissors…you are at nuetral frames…and since cMP is 5 frames move and cLK for bison is a 3 frame move…well we all know 3<5…if the bison is bad maybe?..

And against gen sHK->cMP->sHK is a great string and it builds lots o meter while keeping gen at arms length…

Explain plz.

He’s asking if cMP can stuff sk, not cLK.
And Akuma’s cMP is 4 frames startup, so it should be able to beat a lkSK (10 frames), or what?
Unless we should know that the bison would always hc first with cLK, then what you’re saying makes sense, except framedata on the cMP

Punishing Ryu for wake up and close range Hard attacks

Alot of people should know this about Akuma but I have not seen it updated on any threads yet. Akuma can Ultra/Super any hard hits Ryu has at the moment he does them if you are close enough. Even at medium range if they just throw a hard or medium p or k they will eat the Ultra. This is a sure thing with many characters but Ryu is the one I am most familiar with doing this. It is very useful when you see your opponent abusing wake up hard hits but do not abuse wake up ultras with Akuma because you will get destroyed if they notice.

Can this be true against other “uppercutters” as well? 4/5 times Demon Flip kick trades with Viper’s AA TK, getting tired of it. -_-"

Just to be final, aim for the neck area and hit kick at the end of the flip … correct?

I thought demonflip dive kicks were suppose to be started at the peak of the jump.
