The most "honest" fighting games you know!

I found the interview. It was regarding UNIEL. The devs said without elements of “luck”, beginners stood no chance against veterans. So they basically added “wan chansu” elements that gave beginners a way to win via a fluke. Think of stuff like wake up ultra in SFIV. The gist of it seems to be that if beginners felt no way to win against veterans, they would not play.

Not exactly the same as what people will argue about “honest” and “dishonest” mechanics in terms of “unseeable” mixups or unblockables, but if you’ve ever gotten salty about stuff like Sagat’s LOLcombo in SFIV, then this is why devs think games “need” it.

The relevant bit says:
"A fluke which can overcome the win and loss with one chance is necessary for fighting games as well."

Ftfy.

There are other RTSes that don’t share the ridiculous multitask/micromanagement-requirements of Starcraft.

Not as interested in it then catering to beginners to give them ways to beat high level players is not really something I would get behind. If you wanna learn how to be better to beat them then learn and practice.
