The one thing that I don’t understand about srk is people like you dissing people like me that got into fighting games later in their lives. tbh it really hinders the fgc cuz all it does is insults ppl who are trying to learn something
Street Fighter 1.
Then comes the Vampire games and, people are going to let their hatred blind them, but UMVC3.

If I designed a fighting game it would be the most balanced fighting game ever.
The idea of balance is an illusion. You can’t have real balance because then all characters would be the same. Look at SF2, that game achieves balance for two reasons, there are clear counter picks to character archetypes (this achieves balance because then one character can truly never dominate), and because the game is 20 something years allowing for experience to overcome “bad match ups”
Having a game where a character like Zangief can “fairly” compete (fair in a sense of 5-5 match up) with a character like Sagat isn’t possible. It would only be possible because Zangief has more than enough tools that he can use at any time with no consequence to nullyfy some of Sagat’s fireball game. But then those tools will allow him to bully other characters, thus eliminating “balance”.
Balance in SF type games can be achieved by allowing archtypes to do what they do, while limiting some of their key strengths and making their secondary strenghts more pronounced.
yeah im pretty sure you could
I think a perfectly balanced game would be a little boring.
When you have a roster of 20+ characters there are going to be tool sets in that game that simply do not mesh well together and thus you get “bad match ups”. This is part of why fighting games are so fun. You have a bunch of characters with diverse tools and you use them to the best of your ability. So long as the good/best characters aren’t broken I think it is fine. There will generally always be a top and bottom tier. The idea is to make the differences between them small but still allow the game to be fun.
If everyone in a game gets watered down to the point that it becomes “fair” the game can get stale. Super Turbo is a great example of this not happening, all the characters are powerful and everyone does tons of damage, the game has been played for years and years without and changes and people are playing their characters and learning the games despite bad match ups. E.Honda vs Dee Jay at this years EVO comes to mind.
There is something fun about there being a top tier and playing against them and winning. It is very satisfying. That said, as I mentioned we don’t want the top tier in a game to be ST akuma status, or it drains the life out of the game as that will be the only viable pick.
The question the OP is asking is extremely difficult to answer.
Mario Party 1 is the most balanced fighter ever.
Guess i’ll throw out that i kind of like having fighters where there is some imbalance. I like when there are super high tier good characters and some kinda super shitty characters. For me thats part of the fun of fighters.
EDIT
Damn dude, u beat me to it xd
Because if you want survive Srk mild downtalk you cant handle the Fgc. Get a backbone and stop being dumb. If you can’t handle an insult go play smash or yugioh with a bunch of kids.
The two guys above me are spot on. Balance is an illusion we strive to create. Kind of like god… yeah I went there.

I heard that Fighters Megamix was a really balanced fighting game. I haven’t played it before so you should take it with a grain of salt. Knowing Sega’s history with VF though, it’s probably true.
Real Talk: I liked SSFIV AE back when everyone was complaining about Yun
also, what is the criteria for determining “good” balance
I just don’t think merely having every match-up close to 5-5 or 6-4 is enough
Hah I got in before anybody said “Karate Champ”
VICTORY!
Dive kick is not balanced lol, Wolverine & Mr.N>>>>Everyone else.
Dude, your an asshole. You tell someone they have no backbone because they stand up for someone, and then disrespect part of the FGC for no reason. It would be cool if you apologized instead of trying to justify that being an asshat for no reason like a rational human being.
SSBM
If you’re arguing total % of viable characters (after a certain number) while having the most diverse roster, GGAC probably.
If you’re arguing true balance, any FG with one playable character.
If you’re ignore % of viable characters, and instead go with “high number of viable options with the most diversity”, MvC2 might win.
The last option is important to include because it can actually be a more interesting game than the first, but I think first is considered the “best” kind of balance to mostly everyone.
nes double dragon 1 vs mode
in terms of highest % of competitively viable characters, hyper fighting, virtua fighter (many versions), guilty gear xx ac are up there. in terms of raw number of competitively viable characters you can add ssf4ae, cvs2, mvc2, maybe kof98 to the aforementioned. i agree with others that variety is more important though. a game with a very balanced cast that all play pretty similarly isnt as praiseworthy as a game with less balanced characters but overall more viable play styles.
VS, AH2.6, AH3.1
The most balanced fighting game is uMVC3 ( the games horrendous engine makes this possible )
and because of that and many other issues, It’s by far the worst fighting game I’ve ever experienced.
What hinders the fgc is trash like you. You asked a question and when he answered you, you called him a troll and used a shitty meme. That just makes you look like a troll and a scrub and a cancer to this community.
MvC2 is one of the most balanced fighting games of all time and lasted over a decade. SF2: HF is also up there.
The new wave of gamers were all over TvC but where is your TvC now?
Come back later when your game lasts over a decade.
