The Monster Hunter Thread: A Whole New World

I had lucked up and found a session with a lvl 6 Forest section.

Now I just need one more piece from Scared Yian Gauraga to upgrade the LBG!!

Outside of that I need to find both Raths and start on the Rotten section to get Brutal T-rex.

Raw damage Great Sword meta is Teo Head, Gloves, and Waist, and two off pieces. Damascus chest and Garuga legs are popular off pieces and what I run right now. Essentially you get that 50% affinity, wound the monster, and let Weakness Exploit take care of the rest. That’s essentially what a max damage raw Great Sword build looks like.

Yeah, and if you don’t need Focus, just Rex Roar chest instead for other weapons

Yeah 3 piece Teo seems to be the go to build for any weapon that wants to focus on raw damage. I’m a little disappointed that even after the big elemental buffs to Great Sword didn’t really amount to much in the end. Velkhana makes elemental Great Swords viable but 3P Teo with Acid Glav GS is king of raw damage output.

It’s GS, raw was always going to be king due to how slow it is.

I really like yian garugu in IB. Nice change of pace. It’s aggressive and I don’t have to chase it.

Playing with randos and even with people whose MR/HR is twice mine (I’m only MR 91 with HR 423) and you still have clowns not bringing any jerky or any fire mantles up against Lunastra…one ult and three people carted and it was an automatic failure. One guy was 999 HR and 240+ MR already…

Still, this game is so much damn fun and with the new meta, it’s only made it better imo, besides some of the grinds which have gotten worse in some cases imo, but overall I’m having an absolute blast whenever I turn my PS4 on to play this game.

At the moment, I’ve taken some time to hunt for the new rare pets. However, I’m still hoping against hope that oneday we get Fatalis (any version) in this game. Please Capcom, give us this at the very least through a future update.

Wished I had more time to play this, however with work and school, it has been difficult to put Iceborne in between, but hopefully I can get to MR 100 by this weekend.

Happy Hunting Folks.

It’s funny to me how little Attack Boost means now. In World, it was the most sought after armor skill for raw damage weapons, but now in Iceborne, it’s pretty low on the list of priority and is often nice to have rather than a necessity. Times sure have changed.

Even towards the tail end of World’s HR meta, Crit was becoming more important than just plain old Attack Boost. At the most, people would only get Attack Up 4 since you wouldn’t get any more affinity after that.

Scarred is pretty awesome too, mostly the same but has some cool new attacks too lol

I’m disappointed that Scarred Yian Garuga doesn’t get its own armor set though.

Yeah, his situation is pretty unusual though since she’s just tempered Garuga in this game, but even so he has new attacks and a unique material, but only the one unique one.

Finally at MR100 after laying the smack down on Ruiner Nerg. Used the tank build so I could keep pumping shotgun shells into it even if they screamed their lungs out.

Now to try to get Silver Rathalos to come out (luckily got to SOS into an expedition with Gold Rathian the other day even if my Wildspire is only at level 2).

Finished Scarred Yian Garuga last night, and got the final upgrade for his LBG.
What’s even better is that I F’ed around and fought a tempered T-Rex and got a lure for Brutal T-Rex!!!

And my Rotten level is still level 1!! :joy::rofl:

Never nerf this gun, Capcom!!!

And using this with a maxed Slugger skill against the Raths and Teostra…
turns the hunt into a LIFE ALERTĀ® commercial!!

Hey for elemental builds. Is it worth it to max out the element attack boost since it got buffed to 20%? Or just invest enough for the raw 100 damage boost?

Truly extensive testing hasn’t been done yet but just look at the actual increase per skill point.

Unless you are playing DB, CB or Bow in which case the answer is just max it out or cap it, which ever is first. I’ve heard element SA is the same. For other weapons it probably depends.

Counter Claw is nice and all, but it’s a YMMV usage scenario.

Monster attacks that are multi-hit/moderate duration/heavy impact, tend to cause significant damage incurred over the course of the counterattack animation (plus status/blight affliction, when applicable) should you Counter Claw them regular. Could just be rage mode though, lol.

The usage method from either Guard Shot stance or Counter Thrust guard is either/or: the former more suited for those PREDICTABO attacks from range, the latter more suited for those ā€œin the momentā€ close-range exchanges.

Another (possible) issue is with recovery after a successful Counter Claw; which places you some distance away from close-range engagement. Your options are usually to either dash attack back in or sheath (lol) > whatever.

As of late, I tend to do more regular Clutch Claw than Counter Claw for wound stuffs, but then again I run Quick Sheath to offset recovery via whatever claw stuffs,

I probably could go on about Lance stuffs…
