What is the proper escape for a crucifix anyway? Like bridging the crap out/exploding to flip over? Seems extremely hard since u dont have use of your arm + their weight is on the upper half of you.

ive heard essentially its like superhard/impossible to get out once its legit locked in…ala aldo. only escapes ive heard of is roll back or move like a mofo to try and loosen them.

I spent a year researching (and training BJJ) with Japanese-Brazilians in Aichi Prefecture. In my experience, most of the folks I came across were nowhere near fluent in Japanese, and very few had the energy or time to work on improving it during their scarce free time.

Also, lots of people come planning to work a few years, save up some money, and then go back to Brazil, so they’re not really that motivated to assimilate. I can’t blame them–it’s hard to get comfortable speaking a foreign language and making friends with strange people if you’re there as a student, and I can’t imagine how hard it is if you’re working some shitty full+ time job at the same time.

Interesting, well that’s two accounts that counter to “research”. I can’t argue with it, it actually makes me want to revisit the work and take a closer look at what sources they were using. Anyway I’m more than happy to continue the discussion via email/message.
