I’m not really sure how you equate takedown defense with controlling the octagon. Defending or not, he was getting pushed back by Diego. (Though I do have to say that, if anything, the rules are arguably flawed simply because aggression and octagon control pretty much go hand-in-hand.)
At the end of the day, I picked Diego to win by the rules that are used. In an unregulated fight, I would have much rather been in Kammpman’s shoes. He’s got two or three little cuts, whereas Diego still probably can’t see even today.
I guess if you see it as flaring up like an agitated lizard, that’s on you. I know, you know, and the fighters know, that when a fight is relatively close, the aggressor generally gets the nod. It’s nobody’s fault but Kammpman that he decided to play keep-away instead of pushing forward and actually trying to finish the fight, like Diego was doing.
To say the rules need a revision is something I agree with. However, considering the current rules and judging criteria, implying Kammpman was robbed is something that I cannot agree with. Fukuda/Ring from the last event was a robbery. This was just somewhat controversial.
All just my opinion, of course. But at least it can give you some perspective on why I feel that way.
Yes, I’ll be watching Strikeforce AND Bellator which is also on tonight!
Because a takedown is an attempt to control the fight, if you defend it then YOU are controlling the fight. If Diego had gotten even half of those takedowns everyone would have said he dominated the fight. In my opinion one has to give credit for Kampmann for dominating the fight in the opposite manner - he kept the fight standing and turned Diego’s face into ground chuck.
I just think people are incorrectly classifying what he did as being aggressive. He wasn’t really taking initiative, as you would think he would have had more connected punches than the other guy. He was moving forward true, but he moved forward into a fist pretty damn often. He had a chance in the second round, but wasn’t aggressive enough to finish it off. He occasionally forced Martin into the fence, but he spent his own time backpedaling. The fact that he went for take-downs could be considered being aggressive, but we all know he was desperately trying to get the fight to the ground and he failed miserably. The most aggressive thing about him was his posture, chest-forward and square as he rushed in and threw wild punches.
Man it’s all opinion. If anything we need to define what “octagon control” and “aggression” should constitute. You’re right it’s not as big a robbery as we’ve seen, and Martin couldn’t finish the fight either - that’s his fault.

just cause someone doesnt hit the floor doesnt mean they weren’t out of it. everytime diego was close…martin ran like a mofo to the middle of the ring. then diego would go for a td…martin would “stuff” but in the process diego pushed him right back to the cage…where martin didnt wanna be.
WTF is wrong with Australians?

lol i look to the guys shirt for all the all the answers i needed.
Couldn’t have been that far out of it, he fought back and escaped against an “aggressive” fighter. Half the time Diego got him against the cage Martin just jumped out of the attempt, flipped Diego around and knee’d him in the face.
Man, Diego won so that’s that. But I still think those judges fucked it up because they’re gullible.
Got Mtv2, anyone got a Strikeforce stream?
(Bellator is only “OK” so far.
Thanks very much

I think he was just terrified of being on the ground or something.
Coenen fight was kinda surprising. Not the end result, but the actual fight.

Lapsley/Hieron was a terrible call on Rosenthal’s part. Easily his worst call IMO. He was horribly out of place for something like that. I’m pretty disappointed with him, because usually he’s pretty decent.
Its really not the judges fault half the time. Its the shitty rules they have in the UFC. That are pretty much up for debate and different in everyone eyes.
I think he’s the worst out of the bunch, especially recently
Leben/Simpson
Diaz/ Zaromskis
and now this… He has a really quick trigger finger.

So what by your logic then Melvin was scared then to go to the ground. C’mon of course a frikking leg kick will hurt.
Tournament on Saturday. At 153 lbs, trying desperately to get to 149 but I have been at 153 for a week starving myself. Will see what I can do this week. It’s all good though since weigh ins are before the match so not cutting water weight. I don’t get the weight classes though. I signed up for 162 because the weight below that is all the way down to 149 which is quite the difference. I didn’t think I could lose this much weight, but 149 is pushing it. Maybe if I had two more weeks. I would be HELLA strong for that division. Aside from 2 other pro fighters on the our team everyone is is 180-200lbs so I am used to stronger dudes already (no homo).
Jones vs Evans UFC 1XX
Jones TKO round 2. lolz Seriously I see Jones taking out Shogun and then knocking Suga out Machida style…
