The Marshall Law Thread

out of boredom (cause im gonna give up on law, hate how badly my aa gets stuff 90% of the time against everything) I recorded after qcf mp full charge supers for many characters.

(rec) I can confirm that qcf mp -> tag out, full charge special (turns into super) works with:

Ken, Sagat, Nina, Ryu, Steve,Lili,Kazuya,Sim

Tried with Jin and Ogre, didnt work

Ill test the rest and upload the vids if requested

The problem with using this is that on hit your opponent has enough time to tech the knockdown, and jump in on you thus keeping the pressure on. Meanwhile you have to land, recover from the animation, and then you’re on an untechable knockdown which we all know is very bad. I would stay away from using this not only as an AA but from you’re game entirely. Personally I think it would be better to block the jump in, then try and sneak a ex.ffr in there somewhere. Of course even that is not worth the bar needed to get it off.

So I have a game plan with Chun for tech rollers but what are some things you guys are doing with Law? Just dashing back and creating space has been my safest bet so far.
I like to pressure on wake ups but its just not something you can really do in this game unless you want to be a jumping jack rabbit and I don’t like to jump. Broke myself of that habit playing SF4.

Ah ok, I just assumed that kara meant canceling before the active frames. Either way, thanks for showing the tech, it’s pretty filthy either way :stuck_out_tongue:

works with Hugo (my fav) Xiaoyu, and Rufus

Doesn’t work - Rolento

Alex Valle was looking pretty impressive with Law & Kasuya team for most of the last WNF. Although he switched Ryu for Law for the finals.

what you guys using for frame trap, does law got any decent ones?

I would like to know this as well as what you guys are doing for punishing specials when Lp is out of range. Seems when I use B+Mp combos they’ve recovered in time to block or poke me.

What kind of stuff are you guys using to get in on people? I just ran a set and my Law just got murdered by King, I couldn’t get in effectively at all and he was just jumping around and basically having his way with me.

Law ground game is good, back MP and stand mp which u can cancel special are good get in tool and cover a lot of range, the main problem of law is that he has no answer to jumping attack, nobody is gonna care about how strong your ground game if they only have to jump on you.

Right now, law does have good tools but lack of two fundamental tools, anti air, anti fireball move( the flying kick is unsafe, and u cannot punish them on reaction, and slide has to be done very early to work)and a reversal.

If you wanna really play him( i’ve already gave up on him), better not pick him as a first choice, it’s best to use him for tag combos.

If Law is low on health and you wanna get him out of the get close to you opponent by dashing or jumping and use EX dragon charge as it absorbs one hit. Hit them with the first punch let the animation end and then hit HK+HP for a launcher. Working out pretty well for me so far.

I think all the Law players on this forum are focusing way way to much on his lack of anti air.
First off focus on his positives. He has ridiculous pokes and mobility that you can use to move around the screen with a great amount of ease.
If a person jumps at you do something about dash under them or away from them. Also with his proper offensive options you can make it so they never get the opportunity to jump. You have St Lp which can be used to create incredible mix ups and frame traps. I will have to write later about Law’s Oki but he does have incredible oki. It’s not like missing a part of a fundamental tool set stunts your game completely you can win games consistently with Law.

The issue with law is that while he does have some good options his lack of a reliable AA will make him extremely vulnerable to jumpers and pressure. I think in time he will drop down the tier listing because he can get counter-picked fairly easily as a result of no reliable AA. I hope I’m wrong about him, but thus far I see him having massive issues against rufus, vega and gief.

I do want to know what frame traps you guys use though?

They focus on it because a lack of AA is HUGE. If someone sees that you can’t do anything to them when they jump that’s all they’ll do and Law will have to sit there and take it, or tag out ASAP.

Forever free to rufus.

Well if you don’t mind using two bars his Ex Flip kick-swtich cancel has actually got me out of plenty jump in trouble spots.
Above all use his foot work guys. he’s got a pretty quick dash and his Mk slide is pretty nice.
If someone is being too jumpy and you stay grounded and move an opportunity will likely present itself due to their ignorance – especially those who like to use jumping as a means to traverse the screen.

I’m still liking him a lot. Still experimenting with Lili and of course using Juri a good bit. But he’s complementing Chun Li quite nicely.

You people are missing my point.
Stop worrying about a lack of anti air and start focusing on what makes Law good.
That was the point of my post

I try my best to focus on his better qualities, but against strong opponents who know safe jump ranges and effective pressure it becomes increasingly difficult to ignore his AA. Lots of frame traps to jump pressure is very unavoidable with law unless you have a meter or unless you slide. However using a full bar for a AA and guessing a slide that can be beaten out by most pokes at frame trap range are not viable options if your opponent catches on…and once they do all your really forced to do at that point is just block and hope for the best.

Why does it seem like jump attacks have no frame advantage on block in this game? I always get jabbed out of whatever I try to do after it.

A lot of moves seems sort of wonky in this game, some character have specials that last for days – Hwoarang – and are completely safe with either Guile like recovery – Rolento – or they are spaced at a safe distance with push back – virutally the whole cast minus the few I use, lol.

Any ways I’ve given up thinking of this game as a block and punish/reversal game like SF4, it truly is different. Of course your can still bait/block and punish some stuff but the focus on it is not as dire.

Just a quick note you guys can check out my youtube to see some of my latest matches. I main Chun; so don’t expect to see a ton of solo Law action, however, I would like it if you guys checked out the Law portions at least and gave me some pointers or things to think about.
