I am cautiously optimistic over the return to Innistrad. If nothing else, Madness is a mechanic that I really like. Might even go ahead and update my Pauper UG Madness deck.

No snapcaster or Liliana of the Veil. Off the top of my head I can’t quite put together which would be the rares in need of reprinting. Oooh, resto angel. Might see that thing spike as soon as it is confirmed it won’t get reprinted.

Got some new sideboard tech against Eldrazi.

Torpor orb.

Turns off the Mimic, turns off the Thought-Knot Seer, turns off the Wasteland Strangler.

Other than that Painter’s Servant is another hilarious bit of tech that turns off all the 2 mana lands by making everything coloured.

Painter’s Servant works well with Celestial Purge which makes sideboards to deal with Keranos / Blood Moon mostly but is also a way to remove Liliana / Fatties. Might work well for my Jeskai Geist deck. Jeskai Geist wrecks aggro pretty hard.

so you board in all this hate for the eldrazi deck. Would this be a waste of sideboard space? What about your other bad match ups? What do you do about them? I think the problem with this eldrazi deck is that it puts too much presure on every other deck that wvery other deck gets weaker in pooling so many resources to stop the eldrazi no? Like cute you have a painters servant in tge sideboard. Play say 4 you basically need to mulligan until you can guarantee that you can turn 2 servant in order to stand a chance at the onslaught that the deck can produce. I would hate to see a deck like this get banned tbh because its doig what wizards has been trying to do for a while and that is to get people to play with the new cards outside of standard. 2 old lands are making the new cards insanly powerful and people are playing the new cards but its destroying any leftover meta that was left after the bannings lol.

Funny thing is, I think the metagame shift towards less combo-based decks helped eldrazi a lot, because most fair decks can’t keep up. I don’t think the eldrazi would have been as dominant with twin and bloom being in the format.

For the record, CFB just did some videos of a hypothetical match of eldrazi vs amulet. There were misplays and bad draws involved, but bloom won all three sets. Whether that’s representative for the matchup remains to see, but to quote Martell, it’s clear that bloom easily could keep up with the more fair hands eldrazi could conjure up.

I am of the opinion that to be effective against Eldrazi Aggro, a deck must be naturally resilient to big creatures coming down early on and if the sideboard plan is to “disrupt” the fast mana of Eldrazi then the rest of the deck must be incredibly favored in a fair match against 4/4 and 5/5 threats.

For the above reason, I actually think Worship is a much more effective sideboard card than Painter’s Servant. It helps no matter when you play it and it’s effective against a wide variety of decks. You don’t even want to mulligan for it and expose the card to Thought-Not. You just want to play your usual game and naturally draw and cast Worship.

Better than standard. Haven’t played with/against eldrazi yet. People losing their damn minds over it makes me wonder though. Hoping they’ll let blue have fun things so we can have a couple of control decks run around but other modern folk aren’t sensible people.

Modern is the best compromise we have going right now. Problem is that WoTC refuses to let blue have anything worthwhile. I don’t know that it necessarily needs counterspell (wouldn’t be that big of a deal to be honest) but it needs something. Maybe banning Dig Through Time along with Treasure Cruise was a bad decision. People assumed it was a straight replacement in those decks. While it would’ve been, they function way different. Could be that WoTC might need to bring back some of the hold hype back.

Swords to Plowshares might need a reprint; handing people lands seems like too much of a drawback for control decks. As much as I hate it, bring back top too. shit, unban stoneforge while you’re at it too. Ponder/Preordain would at least make Delver playable which is better than what its doing now. I’m not really willing to give up on a format that has shown to have a lot of potential. But it feels like blue needs have some hype back as opposed to trying to print fixed version of things.

At least until potential bans there is a fair bit of money in Oath of the Gatewatch boosters right now. Lots of value rares and the odd chance of pulling an expedition.

World Breaker + Kozilek’s Return recently spiked. People are calling the GR Eldrazi deck new Tron. Seems like the variants and ability to adapt is fairly endless with Eldrazi.

I would like Fact or Fiction to become modern legal. It’s not good enough for legacy, but it might just be good enough for modern, without being overpowered. Plus, it’s a fun card to play with or against, and a smart one too.
I would also like Top in modern. Cool card, would bring more consistency. But people are talking of banning Top in legacy, so I doubt we will see it in modern.
